Title: FOR ALL YOU MOTHERS OUT THERE IN THE DARK
Post by: bk on May 13, 2012, 12:50:37 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes were metaphysical and motherly, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently celebrating MOOther's Day.

Good morning, all! I slept well, but the bizarre dreams are fading fast and leaving no memories. I believe the last one was about buying the card stock for printing DEAREST ENEMY orchestra parts, but it's quite vague now.

This morning, I will shortly head down to Toyland: I'm hoping the cleaning man has been in to tote all the crap out of there and empty the trash. I've got to burn a new CD of all the DEAREST ENEMY numbers ready for printing. I'll also finish another ROBERTA edit and scanthe corrections for Curtis. Following that, I'll return, begin fixes to the EILEEN libretto, then perhaps watch a DVD. Tonight is the season finale for ONCE UPON A TIME, which will be good: the evil queen's famous poisoned apple has caused a major mess.

That's my day. More later.

Morning all.

That is all.

Wait a minute, that's not all...

I'm on Radio Wales today. Here are the links. I don't know the exact time of my segment, just that I'll be on during Beverley's World of Music. I have a review of Once. You can listen live at 4pm (EST, 9pm in England) by clicking the link below and then clicking Listen Live. It's a 2 hour program from 4pm to 6pm (EST)

Radio Wales Listen Live (http://www.bbc.co.uk/wales/radiowales/)

If you want to wait for the iPlayer the show will be up sometime after 6pm (EST, give it a while because it has to be uploaded and that takes some time). Since I don't know when I appear in the program I can't give you specifics but you can click on this link and then the link to Beverley's show

Cillaliz, I hope you enjoy your chainsaw. I'm glad  I have mine.

I love my chainsaw.  Another sentence I never thought I would utter.   This morning I cut down the two trees that were probably about 4 inches in diameter and quite tall. They were growing directly into the limb of a very tall and old tree that is much taller than my house.  I've been meaning to cut them down for a couple years but didn't want to hand saw through them.   The chain saw made it so easy.   I have cut them down and broken them in to pieces small enough for streetside garbage pickup.  The bigger logs I have stacked up right now.

I was going to drive up to see mom today and have lunch and come back, but she told me that really isn't necessary (she meant it) and she was fine with me staying home and getting work done around the house.  I talk to her every day, so in my mind every day is mother's day

Yesterday I got a bunch of color samples at Home Depot.  I'm going to spend some time playing with combinations in the room upstairs.  I still haven't decided on the colors and I'm planning to paint over memorial day weekend.

Nice pic DR Jrand of you and your mother.  I wish I could find a photo I like of my mother and me.

It was taken at a booth at a small fair - so it is a miracle it has survived over 60 years.....we now have several copies of it.....and I have been working on the scan to take out the roughest spots and stains....but I am not very good at it.

Back from the two-mile jog.  I think all our mothers must be on Facebook.  As Pogue so succinctly put it to me during our visit, "Everyone's got their own little HHW on Facebook."  The funny thing to me is that less people see those little posts than here, but whatever works.

I have the West L.A. group which is a bit like HHW.  I have my Bernese Mountain Dog friend's which at times are like HHW, otherwise I don't consider FB in general to be the same.  Many of my BMD friend's have been in Gettysburg all week meeting each other.  I'm sorry I wasn't able to go and meet them and their dogs.

Maybe this will make DR jane laugh.

The little one bit brownies were made in the little cupcake/muffin pan.

So there were like 40 of these goodies on a cookie sheet.

I put them in various containers while my almost 3 year old niece turned around.

And when she turned back she saw an empty cookie sheet and proclaimed seriously, "WHO ATE ALL THE CUPCAKES?!"

Where in tarnation IS everyone?  You'd think it was Mother's Day or something.

I've edited a number form ROBERTA, burned a CD of the first 16 numbers of DEAREST ENEMY so Josh and I can begin printing them this week, made some spaghetti sauce, had some tortellini, been to Toyland, and now I'm enjoying the AC. I'll have a salad for dinner around 6:30 or 7.

Im also trying to get through Samuel Lover's novel RORY O'MORE of 1837; it's a long one, over 400 pages. I'm on page 60.

Mother's Day afternoon greetings!  We waited at church for a pre-arranged phone call from my friend Anne, who was driving north on I-75 today to her home in Michigan.  We met at Panera in Lima for lunch and a visit, after which she continued north and we headed south.  I hadn't seen her for a couple of years, so we had a lot of catching up to do.

Oh, how I loved this Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, mouth agape gasp-inducing enchantment alternating with did-they-say-that-so-many-decades-ago satire.  And not only because of the whole gestalt of Megan-as-Marilyn being a right-now spring 2012 happening, a coming-together of synergistic entertainment factors where the pieces of the puzzle fit so spectacularly together.   And yet more than some of the others, I wonder if this one will need to be built up scenically if they opt to move it, and would there be life for a move after Megan Hilty's stint in it?

As to Megan Hilty herself, she's had such a total triumph in the role as far as the main review buzz (and therefore historical significance) is concerned, will her agent advise her to take her triumph and keep it seen by the 15,000 or so people who saw it and let it go to legend?

Hard to believe for us in NYC, but theatre fans all around the country are talking about this Encores success - because of the SMASH TV show, of course!

I would love to have seen them both but I never saw either one live. Gypsy and Anything Goes would have been my choices for EM and South Pacific and Peter Pan for MM.

DR JRand61, BLONDES has been in print since 1925. There should be tons of used Penguin paperback copies on Amazon.

I was lucky that in 1966 I saw Mary Martin, with Carlton Carpenter and Loring Smith, in the national tour of HELLO DOLLY! She was quite wonderful.

Pancakes were yummy. And my mom made mini one bit brownies that were so good. Can't stop eating them!

Did she cut them up that small or have a special baking pan?

Maybe this will make DR jane laugh.

The little one bit brownies were made in the little cupcake/muffin pan.

So there were like 40 of these goodies on a cookie sheet.

I put them in various containers while my almost 3 year old niece turned around.

And when she turned back she saw an empty cookie sheet and proclaimed seriously, "WHO ATE ALL THE CUPCAKES?!"

:)

:)

I should have waited to ask my question.

That's fun meeting on the road that way.

It's also the 2nd to last episode of CELEBRITY APPRENTICE (which i had a feeling about so i went online to see who the final two were going to be).

I read spoilers a couple weeks ago.  I was very happy to watch Lisa Lampinelli go home and will be happy when the next one goes home too.  I don't really think the final two are the strongest players, but it will be fun to watch them do the final challenge

Never saw Merman or Martin. Saw Channing several times in "Hello, Dolly!"

I would have liked to have seen Merman in "Something for the Boys" or "Anything Goes" -- or anything of the Cole Porter shows. And Martin in "Leave It to Me!" doing "My Heart Belongs to Daddy" would have been great.

As for "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," I saw a bus and truck tour years ago with Morgan Fairchild, who was Marilyn (or at least tired to be), and Debbie Gravitte, who was great.

Yes, the text that you responded to did not got to HSBC Bank or anyone at the bank, it went to someone, probably in Russia (not to defame that country) or some other phishing capital. If you can delete the texts unread (I assume that the subject line mentioned HSBC so you could safely delete the text) that would be the best way to handle the situation. HSBC will most likely tell you that the texts didn't come from them and there is nothing they can do.

Rehearsal is done.  The new show order works MUCH better.  After running it, we went to lunch and went over the patter and what it needs to achieve in addition to being charming and fun and funny.  She took extensive notes.  We ate at the Eclectic Cafe - I had the pulled pork sandwich, which I've had on one other occasion, but on THIS occasion it was disgusting.  I didn't eat more than a bite of the bun itself, and just ate the innards separately, but it just wan't very tasty.  The Caesar salad was fine and I had some chocolate mousse for dessert, just to get that awful taste out of my mouth.

I missed a good day here.  Mothers... chainsaws... everythin'.

Where I live, if you have a house, you also have a chainsaw because you're eventually going to need it.  Unfortunately, I'm a bad daddy to my chainsaws.  I'll ruin one, buy a nice shiny new one, and ruin that one.  Or at least procrastinate taking it in to be fixed before Father Mother Time ruins it for me.  Last year I graduated from an Echo to a Stihl just in time to cut myself out of the debris from the Halloween Nor'easter.  Naturally, I eventually jammed the chain, and it still needs to go into the shop.

Visited three MOOthers -- no, make that four, two in Ohio and another two in West Virginia -- this weekend.  That's my MOOther quotient for the week.  Traffic was HELL, coming back through NJ/NY/CT this evening.  Pure HELL.  I did have something else brilliant to say.  But what was it?  And why am I asking you?

Oh!  Ethel Merman.  (Sadly, no Mary Martin.)  But though I only remember being there, and nothing of the show itself, I saw Merman once, in CALL ME MADAM, on tour at the Parker Playhouse in Fort Lauderdale, mid-1960s.  I came across the program last year, so it's here somewhere, as proof -- to myself, since my memory of the event is so poor.  But at least I can say I was there.  Oddly (or not), one thing I always remember of Merman is a week in which she was guest -- or perhaps she guest-hosted -- the Merv Griffin show.  I know I was glued to it that week.

Looks very nice...but I don't think that I've ever seen a pie tin shaped like that.  AND I've never heard of a loquat.

Today, I went to my first rehearsal for Olympia Family Theater's production of "Goodbye Moon."  I'll be running the microphones and the sound effects.  I've run sound effects before, but never microphones.  I just got a very quick lesson on what's going on and tomorrow, I'll be able to play around some more.  We have rehearsal every day this week and open on Friday.  It'll be an adventure. :)

After today's rehearsal, I went to my parents' house to celebrate Mother's Day.  Everyone was there...my parents, my sister, my niece, my sister's boyfriend and a friend and former co-worker of my mom's.  We had tacos.

I bought my mom a pair of Hanging Garden Art Baskets (https://therainforestsite.greatergood.com/store/trs/item/48412/hanging-garden-art-basket?source=10--1396196922-35) and she loved them!  She loved them so much, she would like me to get her another pair for her birthday, which is next month.  There are actually three different kinds available, so I got the third kind (the dragonfly) for my sister and she loved it. :D Here's a picture of all three kinds:

Finished with my viewing - Wallander number three and Mad Men.  Then I sat in the Jacuzzi, which I must say was just the ticket.
