Well, you've read the notes, the notes had not enough Go Go, and now it is time for you to post until the Go Go cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: PERSPICACIOUS!
-
A former friend of mine was a principal dancer with the New York City Ballet and he is now a teacher and a choreographer with Pacific Northwest Ballet.
-
In my DVD player: Mommy Dearest. I got the DVD from the library.
-
Good morning, friends.
-
The pedants' revolt!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I turned off the lights at 9:00, fell into a nice sleep and was rudely awakened at 10:36 by my cell phone. It was my neurotic neighbor Judy, which really pissed me off. I have no idea what she wanted, nor do I care since I hung up the phone and tried to get back to sleep, but I was so irritated that I slept poorly the remainder of the night.
-
Thatch stayed with me all night. Stella joined us after my 3:00 bathroom break. Annabelle crawled under the blankets sometime after that.
-
In my list of ballets I'd seen live, I forgot the Cincinnati Ballet's Peter Pan, with music by my friend Carmon DeLeone.
-
This is laundry day, so I need to get started. Along with that, I have to print and fill out a Covid-19 consent form for next Tuesday's vaccination and prepare a couple of packages for tomorrow's trip to the post office and pharmacy.
-
Kitty cleanup is finished and it's time to hit the washers and pick up the mail from yesterday.
-
Good morning, all.
-
Which of these things is not like the others?
-
On my way to the laundry room, I took the garbage from last night and this morning to the closet holding the chute to the trash compactor only to find it bolted shut and no longer available for use. I have no idea now what we are to do, and of course our shitty building management has told us nothing about their new policy.
-
I suspect this was the reason for my neighbor's 10:30 call last night, but I also suspect she's the reason the chute is closed to residents. We have been advised for years to not throw paper down the chute and someone opn my fl;oor continues to clog it with tons of wet paper. I have only one suspect.
-
Uh oh!
-
I'm trying to imagine what a "spinach party" would entail.
Pin the tail on the cabbage?
-
TOD
I don’t know what might be in the player today, but last night on a whim I watched Martin Scorsese’s After Hours. It’s an oddball movie with an amazing cast. I think this was only my third time to see it. I saw it when it was released in 1985, and loved it, but didn’t see it again until I got the DVD, whenever that was.
-
Took my car for an inspection and got hit with a $1500 estimate
-
So I had to leave my car and get a lift home
-
Then I walked to work
-
In the rain
-
And how's YOUR day going?
-
I spoke to Jeff, the super. The chute is bolted until the vermin in the chute are exterminated. I know what to do with my garbage until then, so I am content.
-
Vixmom: Oy!
-
That's a good reason for the bolt DR ELMORE.
-
Wow DR VIXMOM! That's a lot of $$$$.
-
Dance Kaleidoscope is indeed still in operation and just moved into a lovely new facility in downtown Indianapolis.
-
There was a reality series about the dancers in Ballet West a few years ago, I think.
It was interesting for awhile......
-
The laundry is finished and waiting to be put away. Sounds like me.
-
I am so sorry, DR vixmom. :-X
-
Judy just called to apologize about the late night call, and it was indeed about the garbage chute. She's a good neighbor but so damned neurotic.
-
DR vixmom, what's costing so much? What does your car need?
-
I know what to do with my garbage until then,
Give it to Judy?
-
March 26 is a notable day in American letters. In 1874, Robert Frost was born. In 1892, Walt Whitman died.
-
106%!!
-
The set of three scores went!
-
I spoke to Jeff, the super. The chute is bolted until the vermin in the chute are exterminated. I know what to do with my garbage until then, so I am content.
Is "vermin" a euphemism for certain tenants?
-
To paraphrase The Music Man, There's always a euphemism, kid.
-
Good morning, all.
-
So sorry, Vixmom.
-
I spoke to Jeff, the super. The chute is bolted until the vermin in the chute are exterminated. I know what to do with my garbage until then, so I am content.
Is "vermin" a euphemism for certain tenants?
No, but some of the new tenants are complete pigs! They leave the area for the recyclables a mess every day.
-
Vixmom, was it an emissions inspection and the exhaust system failed the test?
-
As I was waiting for the above to post, the site died on me. Everywhere else was fine. Don't know how long it was out.
-
So here's the little announcement I couldn't make till now:
State regulations pending, and of course that's a big unknown at this point, I have my first post-Covid gig lined up. If it all works out, I'll be MDing and playing my first ever FANTASTICKS in a cozy 110-seat house that's perfect for it. We've secured the rights for the dates we want (mid-Sept thru early-Oct), and all that needs to happen now is every single thing going perfectly between now and then: Covid regulations that make it doable, people showing up (vaccinated) to audition, people buying tickets for something they can't watch online, etc. And, oh yeah, I have to start practicing.
-

True for me, as well. Welcome back, everyone!
-
What great news, DR ChasSmith! And what a great show! Should be a wonderful experience.
-
I was never a good enough pianist to play that score with the dexterity it deserves.
-
Larry McMurtry has died. Not good.
-
Larry McMurtry has died. Not good.
DAMN IT TO HELL.
I was reading some several-years-old articles about him not long ago, and hoping he was doing well.
-
That's a downer, with or without the others this week.
-
Yes. I really loved his work. I sort of knew it was coming. And I didn’t read his last novel, The Last Kind Words Saloon, as a result. Will have to read it now.
-
I was uncomfortably aware that he hadn't been in the news lately. At least as far as I knew.
Well, I have that last one, and more, to look forward to reading. There are plenty I hadn't dived into yet.
-
DR vixmom, what's costing so much? What does your car need?
Steering fluid pump, something to do with the axel, air filter, inspection
-
I have told this story before, but I had a brief encounter with McMurtry at his massive bookstore complex in Archer City, which a friend and I visited on a pilgrimage. It was called Thalia in the five or six Last Picture Show novels. Signs were everywhere not to talk to him, don’t ask for autographs, etc. Sure. Got it. Then I saw him wheeling a cart around laden with books and shelving them. I had so say something without getting him upset. So I asked him where I’d find the novels of Zora Neale Hurston and Dawn Powell there. He gave me an odd look, like, why would I want to read those writers, or maybe he was thinking about where they were. He did direct me to two places, both were right. I thanked him, and that was that.

Crufts Dog show announced today they have cancelled their July show.

Congrats! The score is very fulfilling to play, but it has its moments. Harvey Schmidt was brilliant for someone who doesn't read music, and sometimes that's evident in some of the arrangements. I hope the theatre can afford a harp - that will make your job easier - but I wouldn't use any more than piano and harp!

That doesn't sound good. No wonder it is expensive :(

I made my pilgrimage in May 2008, taking an extra day for it while on a visit to my job headquarters in Carrollton. Spent several hours there going through the four stores, picking up a few things, walking through the shell of the Royal theater, driving all around town, eating at the Dairy Queen, then spending a little more time in store #1 hoping against hope that he might show up. He didn't, and I didn't ask. But while I was paying for my stuff, I saw a couple of postcards or something about the place and added those to my purchase, and one of the women said, "oh, it makes him so happy whenever someone wants those".
-
Both stories from John & Chas are nice memories. Thank you for sharing them.
-
That Dairy Queen was special. A shrine to McMurtry and his work. It formed the nucleus of Texasville, which may be my favorite of his novels. Hilarious read. But you do have to know Last Picture Show to understand it.

Thanks for the kind words, and I totally agree. I insisted on being permitted to hire a harpist. They're used to paying for a few musicians for each show, anyway, and they can damned well pay for that one.
So the search is on. The one person I knew, who's beyond incredible and has played four productions of it, would love to have said yes, but she'll be in Switzerland working on her Master's program. I've got others to contact.

You also have to have read Walter Benjamin at the Dairy Queen.

A favorite of mine among his non-fiction. I read it before reading Walter Benjamin.

I'm up, I'm up - eight hours of sleep.

I worry about car issues daily, but am hoping there aren't any after the last break-in when the battery was dying every day.

Must go look at the campaign.

Congrats, ChasSmith!! And Break Legs!! :D I love that show...except when the "director" adds mothers [which I've seen twice (different productions by the same "director")]. :P
-
Back in the 1990s, I ran follow spot for a local production (performed as written) and I'm pretty sure that we had a harp. All the performers were really good. :)
-
Larry McMurtry has died. Not good.
So has Richard Gilliland (https://deadline.com/2021/03/richard-gilliland-dead-actor-in-designing-women-thirtysomething-airplane-2-1234721842/), character actor and husband to Jean Smart. :(

Good afternoon!
-
I just had my first hot bath since Sunday, and it felt so good. Showers are difficult because of the standing, so I'm happy to be back to my routine.,
-
Great news, DR ChasSmith! When I did Harvey's and Tom's Mirette at Goodspeed, we could not get a Connecticut harpist. They were all happier playing weddings and Sunday brunches, so the two harpists alternating on The Fantasticks at Sullivan Street alternated weeks at Goodspeed.
-
Congrats on The Fantasticks. I've had that vocal score book forever. In fact, I have that, 110 in the Shade, and a lovely signed copy of I Do! I Do! that the boys gave me when we were recording it. And Harvey sent me a copy of his score for the film A Texas Romance.

You are forgiven ;) It was in response to Chas's question "Who's number three?".

Children's author Beverly Cleary has died, at the ripe old age of 104.

This is especially for DR Jrand70.
-
YES!!
I did share that with friends. You owe plenty of people some Pepto-B for that one.

And I claimed George Segal as my #1, with Tavernier and Walter (no 's') as #2 and #3.
But the week has now gotten completely out of control. These people need to stop all the damned dying.
-
For DR slingshot's next dinner party.
Then wHat? Yell “April Fool!”?

Two weeks from last vaccine shot.

Just placed an order with Noodle Tree, the ramen shop that made the national news because of the owner speaking out against Asian harassment. Looking forward to giving it a try.

The Fantastiks brings back such good memories , I ran one of the follow spots during the our production my first semester of college
And taking the then young Vixter to see the revival in NYC, ending up with front row center seats that required we tuck our feet under our chairs to avoid tripping the actors.
At one point confetti shot out of cannons and one of the actors gathered up and armful from the floor and dumped in all the Vixters lap, to her great delight.
We were there with former DR William F. Orr.
During intermission we discovered Elmore was also in the audience (I forget who you were with) and after the show he kindly introduced us to the actor who was playing Henry, the ‘old actor”, none other than Mr.Tom Jones himself!!

Be back later.

Children's author Beverly Cleary has died, at the ripe old age of 104.
Wow.
I never read anything by her.

I first learned of Cleary when I went into a bookstore and requested a copy of Ramona and was handed a copy of the Cleary children's book. I wanted the classic by Helen Hunt Jackson.

DR Vixmom sometimes I take pictures out just to make the post smaller, and sometimes they disappear without my doing anything. I have no idea why.

That's great. I'm sorry I had Tom sign my LP jacket instead of either my score or the show poster with my name on it (that was really dumb). His inscription is great, but it would have been nicer on something else.
Is the film score in manuscript? (Just curious. Always love handwritten scores.)

OMG, what a story! Which year was that?
That arrangement must have cost Goodspeed a bloody fortune. That's absolutely incredible.
If you don't mind, I'd love to relate that story to this gal here just to get her reaction. Or maybe I'd better not jinx my own chances at stealing someone away from those weddings and brunches. Oh, man. That's amazing.

There were two hot dogs and enough chili left, so guess what my repast turned out to be this evening.

It’s a day filled with great stories.
-
Got to Noodle Tree a little early. The place is a madhouse with many masked people waiting to get in while those of us with takeout orders are patiently waiting. The windows are covered with hearts from people bearing messages like “Be a light in the darkness” and “We see you. We love you. We stand with you.”
-
This is the place that was spray painted with anti-Asian graffiti after the owner called out the governor for his deadly decision to drop mandatory masks. It made the national news.

I got emotional reading this. It is very moving. I expect it felt good to be apart of this.
-
I hope after eating you still want to return to the restaurant.
-
I just watched the interview with the owner, not that I could understand everything he said while wearing a mask-lol
I gather everyone at the restaurant was wearing a mask.
-
Radio interview was fun.
-
Then I met up with Marshall Harvey and we had a lovely Mexican meal at Don Cuco's - excellent - indoor dining - we were the only ones there.
-
Picked up a couple of packages.
-
I'm listening to Mussorgsky's Khovanshchina - I'm finding it a bit of a slog.

We posted the Kimmel Movie Marathon trailer to YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FahaNxu0JCU

Two weeks from last vaccine shot.
I get my second on April 10th

It is such a great feeling to get the second vaccine, and even better after two weeks.

I didn’t know you yet...I wonder if we were there at the same time

DR TCB to answer your question last night....
At this point if we changed our flights it would work best to go to Craig first. We don't want to do that as it would increase our chances of taking covid to Chicago with us. We are still being extra careful until after we return. Our first dining out experiences will be in Chicago.
If Craig can't make it he will change his flight to Chicago for after the summer break begins.

And another great story! A superb one, in fact.

No, I was there way late, not long before it closed just a few years ago.

I walked into Keith's office while he was on his air bike smiling away at something he was watching on hip iPad. It was this :)

That was fun :)

I hope after eating you still want to return to the restaurant.
I had truffled pulled pork noodles and pork dumplings. Oink. This little piggy is very happy. I would go back.

I noticed a First Nudie T-shirt in there.

My epic for the weekend is the five-hour version of Les Miserables filmed in 1934. It’s from Raymond Bernard and it has been beautifully restored.
-
I’m getting an early start.
-
Good night, all.

Watched two of three acts of the ballet A Winter's Tale, based on the Shakespeare play. Same team as Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Sets are amazing - Bob Crowley again. I'll finish it up tomorrow.

I am pleased it isn't a one time experience and you will continue to support the restaurant.

Wow. Was it originally shown as a serial?

For DR slingshot's next dinner party.
Why in the hell would this make a meat and potato man change his mind? Lose his appetite perhaps!
-
Our local station is too busy mourning Bevery Cleary to mention Larry McMurtry.

Yesterday was Liberation Day! Two weeks after my second vaccine! I want to go out and hug someone.
-
Funny trailer Bruce!

I was so glad that I got to see the original Sullivan Street production of THE FANTASTICKS. My dear friend, Jerry, who was living in New York at the time was the roommate of the actor playing The Boy (Matt). We all went out for drinks together after the show.
