Good morning all.  I'm up super early to drive to the Seffner bus stop to pick folks up and take them to the Plant City bus stop so they can tell their stories to the reporter.  Wish us luck with this campaign.  This really means a lot to a lot of people.

I keep saying the need to change the name from HARTLINE to FARTLINE but no one listens to me.

Vibes to DR TCB and his back.  Hoping for a pain free day!   Vibes of healing (all kinds) to everyone.

Have a wonderful day----Hey, it's FRIDAY!!!!!!!!  :)

THE NEXT FOOD NETWORK STAR spoilers from last Sunday's Episode

This is for DR Cillaliz.

I just double checked and the episode we had yesterday was the same one that you guys had last Sunday.

There were 9 people left.

I was very disappointed with who left. She was probably my 2nd favorite. I do totally agree with them that she wouldn't be ready to do her show now. But i don't think any of them would be able to do it. I just found her genuine and charming. And was definitely not happy at all. My favorite is Justin. I just love him. Some of the others really struggle to me on personality. And i was really annoyed that they took the lowest from each team (that after saying that teams wouldn't really matter anymore). I really wanted Ippy (sp?) to be in the bottom. He is sweet. But there is zero chance he should win IMO. That one guy did really open up (I thought he would be on the top). Never cared for him before. So i guess people can improve. But really for the most part - I don't see anyone on Bobby's team being someone i would want to really watch.

Good morning, all! I slept very late, and I don't give a damn.

Today I have laundry and housecleaning, so tomorrow I can deal with transferring the orchestra parts from one office to another for shipping.

It will be a (hopefully) quiet day.

TOD:

I still have 3 (of 7) discs from MAVERICK, Season 1, to watch.

Storywise, these shows hold up quite well.  Direction, primarily due to the limited shooting schedule back then, not so good.

The fun part of watching these shows, of course, is seeing some of my former publicity clients as guest stars.  Thus far, I've spotted Edd Byrnes (in 2 episodes), John Russell and Barbara Nichols.

I know that Diane McBain also did a couple of episodes of the series, but that was in later seasons.

Off to camp.  We'll finish the vocal's for Act One today, and start briefly on Act Two.  Monday and Tuesday next week, I'm with the little kids camp - we're doing Dear Edwina Jr which I'm very excited about.  Anyhow, we have callbacks and casting on Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday is a holiday.  Then my day will be split in half bigger kids in the morning little-er kids in the afternoon.  I'm happy to have at least 2/3 of Aida taught by the end of week one.

And these are the days of our lives.

Richard and I had a lovely time last night at Music Hall.  Our seats were in the 6 row of the balcony, which is great, but they were not as centered as I'd have liked.  We could still see very well, except the action that took place downstage left.  We had to crane our necks a bit to see Porgy's domicile.  And, yes, DR Elmore's friend David Abell was the conductor and the orchestra sounded great.

The production was very well done and I'm glad to have seen it, but I don't think I'll go out of my way to see a full-length PORGY & BESS again.  The synopsis in the program was written in 3 acts, but there was only one intermission that occurred in the middle of the Act 2 paragraph.  The show kind of dragged after intermission.  And I was appalled at the droves of people who left as soon as it ended, not even bothering to stay for the curtain call.  Of course, their exodus blocked the view for those of us who had the manners to stay and show our appreciation to the company.

As much as I love the piece, you remind me that sitting through the complete opera makes for a VERY long afternoon or evening.  Too bad about the single intermission break.  I wonder if they did that to manage overtime.

I do envy you hearing that MAGNIFICENT orchestration in one of the best halls in the country!   :)

When I lived in Sarasota, Fla., the number of people who got up and left the opera at 11 p.m., regardless of how much time was left in the production, was appalling, too. Their morning tee times at the golf course were more important, which led me to wonder: Why did they bother going to the opera in the first place?

For anyone looking for this masterpiece:

UNSEEMLY WACKY NOODLES

1 12oz. bag of wide egg noodles, mostaciolli or bow tie pasta (your choice).

Boil them noodles.

Drain them noodles and put 'em back in the pot and put the pot back on the stove and put the flame on low.

To the noodles add the following:

One can cream of mushroom soup
Fill the empty soup can with milk and add that.
Add as much dried minced onion as you like (the kind you find in the seasoning section of your market)
Add salt and pepper
Add two tablespoons or a bit more of ketchup (don't be scared, you must trust me - this is basically for color and it adds just the right flavor ultimately)
Mix it all together whilst singing Beat Me Daddy Eight to the Bar
When it is heated through and through add five to eight ounces of sour cream (depending on your waist size) and mix again thoroughly and heat on low until hot, stirring constantly. Serve (will probably need extra salt as you serve).

Now, I know it sounds wacky, because, after all, they are Wacky Noodles, but they are delicious, kind of like stroganoff without meat. Give it a try, you'll like it for sure.

Yes, DR ChasSmith, it doesn't get much better than Music Hall.  You may or may not have heard that it's in need of some major repair and rehab and the city and a preservation committee are fighting over whose responsibility that is.

We wondered that about the couple sitting behind us, because they didn't return after intermission.  That was OK with me, though, because she was a hummer and a toe-tapper.  Because we were in the steep balcony, her toe-taps were just below ear-level for me and she was slightly out of rhythm.  I couldn't decide if she was demented or just rude.

On the upside, we discovered our friends Doug and Julie sitting one row in front of us at the other end of our section.  We had a nice chat with them during intermission and walked with them to the parking garage.

Same here.  Actually, I grew up on the original 3-LP Columbia set (Engel?), but when I discovered the Price/Warfield (Skitch!), I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.  It's almost a cliche to say it, but I always wished they'd recorded the entire piece.

Been a long day already for me.  A series of intense thunderstorms with loads of lightning barrelled through, starting at about 3:30 this morning and repeating at half hour intervals.  Another one hit when it was time for me to wake up for work and the lightning was bad enough that I didn't dare take a shower.  They finally let up by the time I arrived at the train station.

Normally, storms like this come at the end of heat waves and bring in nice weather.  These storms are acting in the opposite, bringing in high humidity and temps in the upper 90s.  Ugh!

I'll have to look to see if I have that one.  I do have the original LP set of the Duke Ellington / Mel Torme version, which I haven't listened to in, like, forever.

How good was the Cleveland Orchestra PORGY?  I remember being thrilled when it came out because it was the first complete recording, but don't recall anything about how it sounded or what they did with it.  I'm guessing it ranks well below the Houston.  Any other worthy ones out there?

I have THIS (http://www.amazon.com/Gershwin-Porgy-Haymon-Blackwell-Rattle/dp/B000002RX8/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1340995659&sr=8-8&keywords=rattle+porgy+and+bess) recording of Porgy & Bess:

I haven't listened to it since I got it.  Is it any good...as compared to other recordings?

Well, I just heard Prologue/Beautiful Girls in our new mix - I could not believe what I heard - the clarity and detail is amazing, the vocals pop now, orchestral details that were buried are suddenly there, and the whole thing sounds smooth as silk compared to the original hastily-mixed version, where things just popped out in unseemly ways and vocals were occasionally behind the band instead of in front - I think this is going to be something incredible.

I've been watching the film WHITE COMMANCHE on TCM (UK) in which William Shatner's performance as a golden haired Commanche chief has to be seen to be believed - his idea of being villainous is to laugh hysterically like a maniac. But the other thing which really stands out as inappropriate and overstated is the jazzy score by Jean Ledrut. I've rarely heard a score that didn't match the film to such an extent before. Yes, I know he did THE TRIAL but he certainly wasn't the right composer for this film.

Hello from Aida rehearsal.  The cast and I are on vocal overload this afternoon.  We've knocked out all of Act One and some of Act Two in 3 1/2 days.  The choreographer is routining something about a robe...LOL.  She's quite brilliant and I love her.  I read the Dear Edwina Jr. script to be ready for Monday and I really want to make a spreadsheet for the music but I can't seem to get Numbers on the iPad to do what I want it to.   Anyhow, almost done here for the day and then it's home to see the DD's and later, dinner at CPK with the DP.

HERE (http://xfinity.comcast.net/blogs/popcast/2012/06/29/tom-cruise-and-katie-holmes-to-divorce/) is an article about TomKat's impending divorce.

Quote
Updated 5:00 p.m.: According to a TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2012/06/29/katie-holmes-scientology-tom-cruise-divorce-suri/) report, Tom Cruise’s involvement in the Church of Scientology is what ultimately led to Katie Holmes’ decision to divorce the actor.

The article claims Holmes has had growing concerns about daughter Suri’s involvement in the church now that she is nearing the age where children are introduced to the religion.

This point of contention is reportedly leading to the already “nasty” divorce details, which include Katie’s request for sole custody. In short, she doesn’t want Tom controlling Suri’s choice of religion.

I didn't like who went home either.   I thought she would be one of your favorites.  I like Jason too, he makes me laugh.  Not sure who I really want to win at this point.  Need another week or two

I was driving home from wherever I was a while ago, and what do I find on the radio but someone playing a program of:  Michel Legrand!

Was only able to hear 4 or 5 songs, but it was quite nice.  Lots of ballads, yes, but what made it interesting was the variety of arrangements.  Oh wait, I'm an idiot, it's still playing, in case anyone's interested...

EDIT:  About over, last song's playing.  Damn, I could have used more of that.

In trying to catch up I am reading too quickly -  I read that your agenda was to split  big kids up into littler kids -- a plan I would assume that would cause some parental consternation

Back from the show - most of which went very well.  We used the little wooden square they call a stage but it proved to be too problematic and we're not using it tomorrow night.  Some things to tighten up - she would take too much time moving mic stands and stools without talking while she's doing it, which is the trick in never letting silence happen between songs and patter.  She also had a notebook with show order and patter on her water table - she said it was her security blanket - I should have made her remove it because sure enough she used it, apologized to the audience and it was way too awkward for my taste.  If she hadn't had it there as a crutch she would have figured out where she was in the show or Lanny would have thrown it to her.  But those are picked nits - she did good and the audience of about thirty really seemed to enjoy themselves.  Tomorrow we're full.
