DR Jose, do you have any suggestions for home made ice cream/gelato/whatever that would be tasty but not too fattening?

I am afraid I have no experience in making homemade icecream etc - Somewher in a box in the basement is a make your own homemade yogurt machine but I don't think I ever used it

DR Jose, do you have any suggestions for home made ice cream/gelato/whatever that would be tasty but not too fattening?

Sorbets are non-fat since they're basically just frozen fruit purées.  However, some sorbet recipes call for egg whites - also fat-free - to add some "body" to them (as well as some protein too).

Actually, the easiest sorbet recipe I've come across:

-Buy a can of pears in syrup.
-Freeze the can.
-Take can out of freezer, open can, and serve.

Ice creams and ice milks can be easy and fat-free, but those types of recipes don't usually yield the tastiest results.  ;)

Check Epicurious and the Food Network site for some ideas and recipes.

Just get a note from your doctor.

*Or maybe your "doctor" could call your office and tell you that you have to head to his "office" right away.  ;)

The closet I have come to homemade would be my morning experiments with my protein shake

I use whole milk instead of skim and a scoop of the vanilla flavored spirutein whey

One day I added half a cup of blueberries and a scoop of vanilla ice cream

Another I added a bananna and a scoop of chocolate flavored instant breakfast

today I added 8 big strawberries

another day I added the bananna AND Strawberries...

this is what passes for cooking in my kitchen

Thanks DR Jose.   I knew you'd have some advice :)   I already use 1/2 and 1/2  instead of heavy cream and can use 2% instead of whole milk.   Perhaps that's the easiest, I'll check the link, though, Thanks

DR Laura,  I heard a second "boom" last night, but never discovered the source.  I'm thinking someone was maybe doing some sort of construction, but I haven't heard any other noises that resemble construction noises.    I guess no news is good news
