Well, you've read the notes, the notes ran amok, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're currently eating pastries and running aMOOk.

Good morning, all! It was too warm here last night for a decent sleep. and then I had truly bizarre dreams involving a killing, my carrying the victim's gun around and waiting for the police, and a dinner date with Dame Judi Dench.

Today, I have to search through the clutter I removed from Toyland for some valuable papers, transfer my NYPL notes to my Herbert recording notes, possibly do some laundry, and that's my day. The IRS has cashed in my estimated tax payment, so I guess there will be no Feds showing up at my door for a while.

DR JRand60, what excellent news! Who's playing Eulalie MacKechnie Shinn?

I've always been fond of the delish offerings at the Pink Rose bakery on South Street in Philly.  I especially loved their cherry and chocolate croissants.

I will for sure be going on a Laurie Mitchell, old Hollywood tour...Laurie wants me to drive her to see her the home which she and her  first husband, a magician named Larry White, had built in the hills above Studio City back in the mid 50s.

TOD: Mom is a baker, so the house was always filled with dozens upon dozens of cookies she was making for some customer or other.

Of the hundreds of cookies she makes, my favorite is called a rum tart. She rolls a vanilla cookie dough incredibly, paper thin before cutting them out, usually in circles but sometimes in shapes during holidays or for special occasions (she does a version for baby showers in the shape of a baby's foot). After the cookies bake and have cooled, she tops one with a thin layer of homemade raspberry jam. She then places another cooking on top, like a sandwich, and ices the finished tart with some rum glaze (negligible amount of rum). The whole cookie is no deeper than 1/8 of an inch and it just melts on your tongue.

I don't have the patience to roll out the dough that thin and I'm too clumsy to get them not to break when I try to put on the jam or the glaze. But I guess I'm going to have to learn one of these days, as her fingers are getting a little stiff and she has said she is retired from the biz. Still, they are exceedingly good.

BK:  I'm on board with your assessment of "The Boy Friend"...all the way!!   I first saw it in Jacksonville FL (where I was stationed) and it was the cut version, but it was still wonderful.   It wasn't until the laserdisc that the full scope of Russell's vision emerged, and it was, by my estimation, a masterwork.

Love Twiggy, love Tommy, love Christopher, and love, love, love Pauline (Maisie)...as well as everyone else in the cast ("you....me....Hol-ly-wood?").  The production is superb, and while I wasn't at all surprised that John Williams won a well-deserved first Oscar for "Fiddler on the Roof",  I was rather hoping Peter Maxwell Davies and Peter Greenwell might be named.

Oh, well.

I'm guessing it's the special nature of this being a filmed play...even if it is in HD.  It's also playing in Plano, though that probably doesn't help you at all.

Here's the Playbill (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/149755-Dates-and-Venues-Announced-for-Screening-of-Roundabouts-Importance-of-Being-Earnest) write-up and schedule.

Maybe some video label will take a chance and issue it on Blu-ray disc.

Re Warner Archive - after a rough start where they were indeed using ancient transfers, they got their act together and their transfers now are generally of a much higher quality.  It's DVD-R, of course, and bare bones, but I've been very pleased with everything I've gotten from them over the last year.  Most of them now say "remastered edition".

I'm surprised you're not booking a tour of all the old folks homes and actors retirement centers. I've also heard a rumor you're now dating on ancestry.com that I hope you will confirm or deny.

I believe they closed the actors home.

YUM!!!

You will regret it if you don't learn how to do this.  I understand your reluctance. :)

Janet Stuckey, the lady in charge of Special Collections at the Miami U Library, is retiring at the end of the month and I am in very sad about this. I hope her replacement is as wonderful and as much fun to work with.

Too bad you can't be on their hiring committee. ;)

I'm going through that right now with the person who will be my new supervisor...except that I'm not on the actual hiring committee.  I'm on the "peer/review committee," which basically means that we get to ask questions AFTER the real hiring committee, who may or may not take our opinions into account.  No one who is supervised by this position is on the actual hiring committee. :-\

I'm rather PO'd that the film version of "The Importance of Being Earnest" with Brian Beford is only playing in Dallas. It's not even coming to Austin, much less San Antonio. Why?

I'm guessing it's the special nature of this being a filmed play...even if it is in HD.  It's also playing in Plano, though that probably doesn't help you at all.

Here's the Playbill (http://www.playbill.com/news/article/149755-Dates-and-Venues-Announced-for-Screening-of-Roundabouts-Importance-of-Being-Earnest) write-up and schedule.

Maybe some video label will take a chance and issue it on Blu-ray disc.

And I can't believe its only playing in Vero Beach, FL!  Not in West Palm, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Boca Raton or even Tampa or Orlando!

It's going to play in Seattle, but nowhere closer.

Ginny, I've used only Gmail for email the last two years. It has pluses and minuses. No folders, minus. Independent of your ISP, plus. It's free. Why don't you open an account and give it a try? Their spam filter is often overzealous; you need to check the spam folder periodically, as nonspam gets in there, too.

I really like gmail. And barely find any real mail in the spam folder. Plus I don't get that much spam.

You can create your own folders.

The main difference is that it stores all your correspondence with one person (under the same subject heading) in one giant email. But it is easy to see when you get a new response to the message.

I find all correspondence under one subject is stored together, no matter how many people email under the subject.  I must send more bulk emails than DR Jennifer does.

Keith receives his emails in Outlook and sees them one at a time.  Most the time I like the bulk messages under one subject, however, on occasion I have missed an email.  You can delete an individual email without all of the one under the subject & I do that to reduce the number of messages under one heading.

I have a terrible habit of writing down phone numbers without writing down the name of the person to whom it belongs - i am always finding scraps of paper with unidentified phone numbers written on them

Me too

I had a bad case of spring fever today compounded by a headache and some allergy issues.  So, i didn't get much done.  We called it a day at 3:30 pm and I did some work around the house.

Edith has spent the past 2 days trying to put a 30 some page declaration for an application into a legible form.  The person who translated it didn't break any of it into paragraphs and it was all small type and single spaced.   I could tell by the look on her face that she wanted to get out of the office.  That and she kept asking if she could go to the courthouse or the post office, or anywhere she could pick something up for me...lol.  We'll both be in better moods tomorrow

My allergies kicked in today big time.  We actually had an odd and unexpected appearance of a large glowing orb in the sky, which may have had something to do with it.

After our discussion about Andrew Stone the other day, I found an import DVD of SONG OF NORWAY and ordered it, just to see if it's really as stultifying as I remember it being.

I prefer the privacy of a bathroom myself, but we'll put a  pad on the pool table for when you come over if that's important to you.

(Ack, see what you started, vixmom?)  :)

Spent the evening making fried mushrooms, probably 150 pounds of mushrooms, at a major party here in town. It's called A Night in Old San Antonio, and it lasts four nights. Go figure. Here's a tiny photo of me taking a break.

I also learned to make something truly decadent called a domino cake. You take a raspberry jelly roll, cut it in thin slices and line the bottom and sides of a cake pan. The fill it with something like panna cotta, a gelatin-based custard, and top it with more of the jelly roll slices. When you take it out of the pan, you top it with apricot glaze. I can't wait to try one myself.

Matthew! How are you and how are you coping? I hope you're staying busy.

Thanks everyone.  I am staying super busy, which I believe contributed to my break up.  But since no one expressed concern early on, I never knew.  And here we are.

I'm in the process of finding an apartment.  The ex will keep the house, we will share the dogs, and I will pray he doesn't default on the mortgage.  I have a feeling that won't happen, but it could.

And that's what's been happening.  :)

Miss all of you, will be back more, I promise.

Good Evening!

It's raining in NYC. Well... It wasn't. Then it was. Then it wasn't. Then it was really raining. Then it wasn't. Then it rained, lightning'd and thundered. And now, it's not. Again. Alas, it's supposed to like this all day tomorrow. -But the sun is supposed to reappear on Thursday.

Anyhoo...

I got my errands done, and then it was off to the restaurant for a few hours... which ended up turning into a full shift.

Business was semi-slow for the first three hours. And then once 8:00 hit, it slowed down big time. There were only 17 more covers/reservations/customers on the book, so the manager let two of the waiters go for the evening. Well...

We ended up with 52 covers between 8:45 and 11:00.  And we had a new guy in the "dish pit" - dishwasher. And the bar sink wasn't draining properly. Thankfully, I was just working mainly in the back tonight, but, boy did I end up polishing a lot of wine glasses. And that's so not a euphemism.

All I want to do is crawl into bed and get some sleep...

So...

Goodnight.

I'm off.  It's time for rehearsal.  We only have tonight and tomorrow without an audience, so, I'd better be able to get my one quick costume change done quickly enough so that when I'm supposed to be on stage again, I've actually changed my costume...it hasn't happened, yet. ::) Thursday is our final dress/$5 preview, then we open on Friday!

Have a good rest of the evening, all!

We had a very good show tonight, and I made my costume change...just barely, but I got it all changed just as we were making our entrance. :D

We got through the show in about two hours (not including the intermission), so we're doing really well in that respect.  I don't know how many tickets have been sold, but several people from my work have already gotten tickets.

On the other hand, I have found this delightfully outre parody by DS Zach of Do-Re-Mi.  Imagine FJL on hallucinogens:

Doe, a deer, a female deer, Oh, an apple full of thread!
Woah, what have, I just now sung, That makes little or no sense!!
That, is why, I teach a school, Because, my brain is made of bread!!
And so, for now, until next year, you will eat at J D pence!!!

I think that he's got a career in the making!
