Good morning, all! I slept terribly, although the only dream I remember now is an endless one about a production of CANDIDE. That means I'll be dozing most of the day and off to bed as soon as GRIMM finishes tonight.

This morning, after I finish the laundry, I will look over the final three DEAREST ENEMY scores and freeze them or send them back for a few fixes.  I've got sme things to do on ROBERTA and I've got Act Three of THE ONLY GIRL to finish. That's enough.

Good news, DR vixmom! Have a good day.

re: THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

I still have not seen the US movie since my library did not get it yet (hopefully they will get it).

It's hard to keep all the endings in check. But I found this interesting comparison. And it sounds like the US movie is more like the book. There was a key element that was left out of the Swedish movie that bugged the crap out of me (re: erika and mikael). It sounds like they included it in the US movie.

TOD - In anticipation of Richard's absence this week, I hijacked our Netflix cue and have been watching movies he didn't particularly want to see.  Earlier in the week, I saw THE DESCENDANTS  and BEGINNERS, and today I have THE LAST STATION.  Another one should come in the mail today, probably either THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT or the first disc of BOARDWALK EMPIRE.

You haven't seen the extended Swedish or you would know that the ending with Erika and Mikael is there.  The big change involves Vanger's daughter - that most certainly is NOT in the book.  Also, 90% of the things on that website that the guy feels are better in the US because they're not included in the Swedish, ARE included in the extended version of the Swedish film.  I'm going to watch that again soon.

Those Slatkin LPs had really cool dye cut covers.  I'm assuming the CD insert booklet does not reproduce them.

No, I did not see the extended Swedish version. I'm glad that they included the stuff with Erika. But to me if it's not in the regular movie then it really doesn't count. Because that is the version that everybody saw. That was the key scene in the book that was the whole reason for book 2. So to not include it in the movie was a huge deal for me.

Discuss:

Taylor Swift is circling the role of Joni Mitchell in Sony Pictures and Di Bonaventura Pictures' adaptation of Sheila Weller's book "Girls Like Us," which would mark the pop star's first turn in a bigscreen drama.

Pic examines the careers of singers Mitchell, Carly Simon and Carole King. Swift does not have an official offer, but has been linked to the Mitchell role for several months as other actresses have auditioned to play Simon and King, including Alison Pill ("Midnight in Paris") for the latter singer.

"House" exec producer Katie Jacobs, who optioned the book several years ago, is directing from a script by John Sayles. Lorenzo di Bonaventura ("Transformers") is set to produce the Sony pic, which has not yet been greenlit, though it is tentatively skedded to start production later this year when the three leads' schedules allow for filming.

Swift, who's currently featured on "The Hunger Games" soundtrack, made her feature acting debut in ensemble rom-com "Valentine's Day," and recently voiced a role in Universal's "The Lorax." Before that, she appeared as herself in the 2009 Miley Cyrus vehicle "Hannah Montana: The Movie."

Jennifer, it's too complicated to tell.  They just make a silly plot device and it's kind of meaningless.  I think now an equal number of people have seen the extended version of the Swedish film - remember, this was originally made for television - the theatrical version came after and they felt they had to edit it down for that.  The extended is great and you should see it.

DR JMK - I have read about 40% of Girls Like Us on my Kindle and, as much as I love the music of all 3 women, got very bored with the writing.  Maybe Mr. Sayles can bring some life into their stories.  As I read, I kept thinking, "This book needs a soundtrack," so the music should be great.  The book was a Kindle freebie, which leads me to believe it didn't sell very well...

I've been on a tear with my Netflix and Amazon Instant Video streaming, trying to get my moolah's worth out of them.  I've been watching a ton of old British mystery shows.  My assessments:

Midsomer Mysteries:  good setups, blah denouements

Murdoch Mysteries:  too gimmicky

Sherlock:  have been liking it much better this time than when I watched parts of some episodes during their broadcast run

Foyle's War:  really like what I've watched so far, plus have a new favorite name to go along with Sherlock's Benedict Cumberbatch, namely:  Honeysuckle Weeks  ;)

Is it on the regular dvd? My library has it. But truthfully i found the Swedish version a bit too graphic for my tastes. Although i could always fast forward thru the graphic parts just to see what is new.

I never had an option to rent the extended Swedish version.

I've read the book & watched two versions of the movie.  I think that is enough, at least for me it is.

Is it on the regular dvd? My library has it. But truthfully i found the Swedish version a bit too graphic for my tastes. Although i could always fast forward thru the graphic parts just to see what is new.

The US version is less graphic.

I a not sure why my library did no get the US version. Maybe the person ordering it does not know there was a US version made.

Back from an omelet to tide me over till dinner, which will be soft and light, and then I picked up some packages and an important envelope, did banking, bought some pantaloons, a new pair of swimming trunks and a new pair of shorts to jog in, as well as some light bulbs for the outside lights and some floss.  I'm all set now for any eventuality.

It took me 3 1/2 hours to get to work today.  A drive that usually takes 30 minutes or so.  There was an accident on the San Mateo Bridge, and traffic was backed up.  It was long, boring, and tiring.  Not something I ever wish to do again

I started reading "The Hunger Games" and stopped because... well, I won't spoil it for those of you who haven't read it.  I've had class discussions with my 5. 6 and 7 grade classes about it's content.  I'm amazed at their comments and over all take on the book.

It seems we won't see the path report until Monday.  Keith has been doing research on the blood work results & it isn't encouraging.  I called to see if the path report will distinguish if the cancer is a the aggressive kind or not and was told it won't.  We find this frustrating as this is a key piece of info in deciding if we will treat the cancer or not.

Much appreciated.  Our regular vet, who was out of town on Wed, just called.  We had a nice long talk with her.  Even though she thinks it is cancer she said don't completely give up hope.  She also went over the blood work with us and the things that scared us are better than we thought.

The rain they promised is here and, apparently, ushering in a cold front.  Richard called this afternoon from Wisconsin.  He had to be outside to get a signal and had to stop in the middle of our conversation to put on his gloves.  That's the weather that has now made its way to SW Ohio.

Had an absolutely wonderful Melody rehearsal - just on top of everything and all the notes from last time were addressed perfectly.  I added a couple of new patter things and my few other notes were just nitpicky stuff.  We then went to Mo's, where I had a grilled artichoke and a Caesar salad.  I'm so used to eating one meal a day, that I always feel like a pig when I do two, but I don't think having an omelet and a bagel and a grilled vegetable and salad is overeating, and I see people all the time who eat much more and more often.

I've recently eliminated all starch and sugar (redundant, yes) from my diet.  Except for the occasional light breading or whatever the last 4 days, things have been awesome.  This eve, we went to PF Changs for dinner and they have this new brussel sprout dish which was to die for.  No rice eaten this eve!!!

I started watching a motion picture called Osaka Elegy, a Japanese film from Japan circa 1936 - a much-beloved film that I've never seen.  But I was too antsy to stick with it (I'll finish it tomorrow) so instead I went in the Jacuzzi and that was just what I needed.
