Well, you've read the notes, the notes had three writings, and now it is time for you to post until the writing cows come home.  They're currently writing their MOOmoir.

Good morning, all! I return to Encores! today to see what fresh new hell awaits me from Joshie. I think he promised me one of the longer and grislier numbers in the show.

I have little else to report. Thank you all for the vibes about the death of an acquaintance who will never become a better friend because of his death. I only knew him because he had blogged about JUBILEE at Ohio Light Opera and I sent him a message wishing him well. That led to several pleasant emails before the OLO management became upleasant.  The current avatar on his Facebook page is very haunting, and I found this youtube clip of him singing a William Finn song I like very much.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkfiDrN376U&feature=share

So, today is Encores! and then more DEAREST ENEMY work here. And that is the end of the news.

DR Laura, how's your knee?  I was sorry to hear about your fall.

We watched BEGINNERS last night.

Liked it.

Christopher Plummer should definitely get a Supporting Actor nomination...if not the Oscar itself.

Thanks for posting that, Elmore. I think that's my favorite Bill Finn song

Good Morning...

Had a terrible night's sleep--I kept dreaming all night, gyrating through the plots of DOWNTON ABBEY (yes, I'm obsessed!) and also believing that I needed to wake up an hour sooner than usual because I had to catch the milk man to tell him not to deliver any milk next week because I will be away (which makes no sense because I haven't had a milk man deliver since I was a youngen and I am not going anywhere next week.)

Wednesday morning greetings!  Remember, before I retired, that I hosted a brownbag lunch on the second Wednesday of the month?  Well, Richard and I are going to that event today because the subject matter is relevant to his work with our local historical society.  Afterwards, we're planning to visit the Dayton Art Institute to see their special exhibit of the works of Norman Rockwell.

DR Elmore, sorry to read about the loss of your friend.  He sounds like he was a very sweet man.

Good Morning...

Had a terrible night's sleep--I kept dreaming all night, gyrating through the plots of DOWNTON ABBEY (yes, I'm obsessed!)

These mis-heard "Downton Abbey" thoughts from the New York Times' wonderful columnist Dave Itzkoff:

"So last night I tried that downtown Arby's everyone's been raving about. Didn't seem classy or British to me."

"Can't believe I still haven't met any drag queens named Downton Abbey. Nice viral marketing, PBS."

And of course the expression "Downtown-Shabby Chic" seems to have come into greater use since "Downton Abbey" really took off

DR FJL, I'm surprised no one has done a Petula Clark "Downtown" parody yet.

DR FJL, I'm surprised no one has done a Petula Clark "Downtown" parody yet.

I would have, what with Petula apparently returning to NYC soon, but with DOWNTOWN ABBY / UPTOWN ANN LANDERS generating only 40 views (count 'em 40), i may pass on that one.  :)

News on Petula's show, very pricy:

I loved the pilot of that show. Can't remember much about it, except I was one of the few who seemed to enjoy it. Guess you did, too.

I remember somewhat enjoying it, particularly because it introduced me to Nancy Marchand and Kathryn Walker.  (A very young Linda Purl was in it, too.)  I also remember that it looked cheaply done, sets and costume-wise.

Of course, because I couldn't help myself, I'd done this when the prices for Petula's show were announced:

Tune of DON’T SLEEP IN THE SUBWAY (Petula Clark recording)

You just read her news
And it gives you the blues
‘Cause you think there’s no way you can go, dear
(whoo-oo-oo-oo-oo)
You once were a snob
Now you’re out of a job
So you sweat that you can’t see Pet’s show, dear

But for a while just try to live less large
You’ll save enough to pay the cover charge

Try eating at Subway, darling
Try shopping at K-mart, hon
Save money at Subway, darling
Petula’s back
You know you wanna go
Get in the black
You’ll have the dough and have fun

(repeat chorus)

Petula Clark DON'T SLEEP IN THE SUBWAYS dance

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvKj8lTuVtk

Brings to mind Carol Leifer's riff on the song:
"Don't wash your face with Clorox
Don't shave with a ginsu knife -
I mean, what kind of loser was this woman dating?"

Yeah, it was cheap looking, but it would have been great to see Nancy Marchand and Maggie Smith go at it for a few rounds.
