The new Critics Choice DVD catalog lists a Toshiro Mifune movie called THE BAD SLEEP WELL on a new Criterion Release, Jan 10.

Anyone know anything about this film from 1960?  Sounds like something I would like, but it is, of course, a bit pricey.

DR RLP - that face was featured in ROME ADVENTURE, too - but Troy Donahue didn't put his hand in there and say that he was an actor.

:o

I got chills up my spine when I read this bit....I am scared of those mountain cliff roads... I always think we're going off the edge

Yes, that was exactly what I was thinking at the time, as well...it used to terrify me!

Jrand, I believe if you do a little handy-dandy search of this here site you will find that I wrote a quite long paragraph about The Bad Sleep Well, sometime within the last four months I should think.  A wonderful film, not quite the masterpiece that High and Low is, but terrific nonetheless.  As I've stated, I'm in the minority who find that Mr. Kurosawa's "modern" films more pleasing.

Back from the El Portal - I think we're all on the same page now - we should have mostly everything on the set by this evening, even though a couple of pieces of furniture will need sanding and painting.  And there are two flats (for outside of door backing) that won't arrive until Monday.

I've also now asked my stage manager to have a pointed conversation with the actor who's having line problems - it's good if he starts hearing it from the stage manager as well as me.

I don't know about that one, but I have ordered the region 2 Toshiro Mifune film from 1950 called SCANDAL, which co-stars Ms. Shirley Yamaguchi.

I had purchased a Chinese disc of this Japanese film early last year, but half-way through the movie the sound went completely out of sync....I was not happy...and it was a wonderful film that I wanted to finish watching! I never realized how handsome Toshiro was when he was in his 20s...wow! And Shirley was very good too, even without Marie Windsor there to torment her.

The plot is about an actress who briefly meets a Marlon Brando-like artist. The meeting is completely innocent, brief, and then they go their seperate ways...but the news rags get hold of a picture of the two of them together and when they are later spotted staying at the same hotel, pow...headlines!

I can't wait to see the whole movie!!

I'd forgotten it was a Kurosawa film. I am surprised it hasn't been released on DVD in the U.S. yet...but it is available at Amazon.com.uk.

I've been catching up and came across a reference to this show now playing on American TV

"the new show with Howie Mandel, To Deal Or Not To Deal?"

We ran across it on BBC also (Irish television has RTE 1 and RTE 2 but they also get BBC transmissions). In England it's called "Deal or No Deal"

I must say I found it somewhat confusing at first but after watching  for a while I began to understand. That's not to say I thought it was a particularly good game show. And knowing that Mr. Mandel is the host of the American version ensures that I would never watch it over here. I don't "get" Mr. Mandel. I find him tasteless, crude, mean, rude and most of all, unfunny.

Anyway, I must now get back to work and stop posting and catching up.

Of course you can also get the Australian release.

But the extras on the British release are more plentiful, I think.

Wouldn't you feel stupid if you were painting a water tower and fell into a big opening in the tower and then it was telecast across the country?  I mean please...if you're on top of a water tower, wouldn't you be watching where you stepped every time you moved your feet?

Vixmom, stay tuned for Products.  :)  And thanks for the review on Gather.  I've had a lot of people email me about the story, but so far only two reviews.  At least they're good ones, LOL.

And because I know you are all waiting with baited (and or bated) breath, I am pleased announce that:

Well possibly, but slips and falls happen.  I  wouldn't feel as stupid as this man ......

BAKER, Calif. - An artist who chained his legs together so that he could accurately render a picture of his legs wrapped in chains hopped 12 hours through the desert after realizing he lost the key and couldn’t unlock the restraints, authorities said.

Trevor Corneliusien, 26, wrapped and locked a chain around his bare ankles Tuesday while camping in an abandoned mine shaft about 5 miles north of Baker, San Bernardino County sheriff’s Deputy Ryan Ford said.

Corneliusien often sketches inside mines in the Southwest.

When he finished his chain drawing, he realized he had lost the key to his shackles and would have to seek help in Baker, the deputy said Wednesday.

“It took him over 12 hours because he had to hop through boulders and sand,” Ford said. “He did put on his shoes before hopping.”

Corneliusien finally made it to a gas station on the edge of Baker. He called the sheriff’s department, which sent paramedics and deputies with bolt cutters.

Corneliusien’s legs were bruised, but he was otherwise in good health, Ford said. The artist did not have a listed phone number and could not be reached for comment.

And the drawing?

“He brought it down with him,” Ford said. “It was a pretty good depiction of how a chain would look wrapped around your legs.”

Old friends pass away, new friends appear.  it is just like the days.  An old day passes, a new day arrives.  The important thing is to make it meaningful; a meaningful friend -- or a meaningful day.  Dalai Lama

Ayn would not approve of your quoting some third-world selfless person like the Dalai Lama.   :)  Have you heard about the idiot entertainment reporter who was doing an IV with him and kept calling him Mr. Lama?   ;D
