I don't see Chelsea's reaction to that question as a negative.

First, she's stumping for her mom, but she's not campaign manager or on her mom's election staff.  She's stumping as "daughter" of the candidate.

As daughter of the candidate, I do believe she has the right to discriminate about which questions to her are appropriate and which are not.

When she "stumps", for instance, she doesn't answer  questions from the omnipresent media.  I give her serious props for that.  I realize the question about Lewinsky was from a student reporter, but he was part of the constituency she was reaching out to.

The question asked of her was about the impact her mother's handling of the Lewinsky affair might have on her.  Aside from it being totally a jejune question to ask of the former first daughter, the implication here is that her mother "handled" the affair in a way that was "public" and was, somehow, the business of the public. NEITHER is applicable, IMO.  We have no idea what went on between Bill and Hillary.  We know that she stood by Bill and that is all we know.

I think it was a very rude thing for anyone to ask anyone's daughter.  To mention Monica Lewinsky to Chelsea as though Lewinsky had any bearing on Hillary's campaign (she doesn't to my way of thinking and any attempts to put her there are a bit "much", as well) was dumb.

Agreed!

Chelsea is taking questions from "the future of America" that concern the current campaign, and, well.. the future of America.  She has every right not to field or answer questions that are personal inquiries into the lives of her and her family.

Valentino - the ersatz bio pic from producer Edward Small is on TCM today at 6 p.m. EST.

The title role is played by Anthony Dexter nee Walter Fleischman.  Tennesee Williams writes in his Memoirs of seeing Walter play The Christ in a Passion Play when both were college students, and being completely enamored of him....and his lack of costume.

Was anyone as surprised as I was last night when Kristy Lee Cook WASN'T in the bottom three for the first time this season?

Not I.  Her song choice more or less cemented that.  Which brings up something else I've been meaning to mention/talk about...

The judges ALWAYS talk about "Song Selection".  I think what the Contestants keep forgetting is that they are indeed Contestants, they are Competing against each other.  Yes, they can pick a "good song", but if most of the people who are casting votes for them have no idea what words and melody just came out of their mouths, well... They've sunk themselves real good.  The song doesn't have to be "wildly popular", but it should at least be something that "is in the air".  I really think that's what did Chikezie in last night - and even affected David Archuleta's standing.  Yes, they liked the song, but if their public had never heard the song before, well, they basically just alienated them.

"American Idol" is basically a "Popularity Contest" in the guise of an over-produced mega-Talent Night.  And I believe the "popularity" part carries over to the songs themselves.

*Of course, now there's all the talk about David Cook covering Chris Cornell's version of "Billy Jean" almost phrase for phrase.  Hmm....

OY!  And the same eight bars of "Ladies Choice" from the movie of "Hairspray" continues on and on and on and on and on downstairs...  (Ah, almost a Baby reference.)

So, what you're saying, Jose, is that the general public isn't going to like something they haven't heard before.

In that case, there is absolutely no hope for any new songs that are written, unless they sound exactly like something that has been written before.

This may explain the popularity of Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Wait a second.

I just realized that my favorite composition of ALW's is Variations.  I just proved my own point!

Well, generally speaking, that's what I'm generally saying, in general.  ;)

As as for Sir Andy, well, having worked beside him briefly(!) during Whistle Down The Wind, he is a very smart man.  Very smart.

TOD:  above all else, the Burger King sausage, egg and cheese croissant (although it DOES have egg in it, so maybe it's not entirely non-nutritious)

Is it still called a croissan'wich, or did they abandon that moniker?

That's what they're called.  I like 'em, too, but I prefer the bacon, egg and cheese croissan'wich. :D

The smoked turkey with no-fat pesto spread, lettuce and tomato croissan'wiches are my favorites.

Of course...I have to make 'em myself.

Hey DRs MBarnum and RonP, did you like who won HOH last night? (and who got evicted)

... on BIG BROTHER.

I have never been fond of that contestant, so I'm not thrilled by the fact that this person is now HOH.  But...it will be interesting.

I'm thinking, "Bye-bye, Joshua"!

I noticed Dolly Parton is the guest mentor next week. Does that mean a country week?

Either that, or all the girls will be showing lots of cleavage.

How will the guys compete!!!   ;D

Tight pants!

I well remember Ruben Studdard in the bottom that one particular week, and he should have gone home that week. I never thought he was anything but mediocre, but as the weeks wore on, I always felt he got worse and worse, his voice more and more gravelly and often missing notes. Yet, the judges propped him up week after week. They were determined to have a "soul singer" be the Idol that year.

I thought Randy Jackson was going to have a heart attack that night that Ruben was in the bottom group.
