Well, you've read the notes, the notes were brief, and now it is time for you to post until the brief cows come home - they're finishing the moo right now.

Will we never get to page two?

TOTD: Ramada Hotel Christchurch New Zealand - Christmas Night 1977.
-
We went across the street after the film to the same place bk had dinner.
I had a bowl of soup and iced tea.
Greg had a salad.
Susan had soup and salad and tea.
Terry had chicken pot pie.
Michael had a glass of fizzy water.
Ivan had tap water.
Total of the bill: $95!!!!
-
Yes, Kate Mantilini is not cheap.
-
While we were at the restaurant, Michael got a phone call from none other than Alice Ripley. (They are friends ahd he's doing a project with her.) She is in NY and he told her she should go see our film.
-
My hero, Van Dyke Parks, came to the screening, along with his wife, and a very interesting BBC director who might be able to help us wrangle some Johnny Mercer footage from a show he directed in the 60's.
-
It's not a restaurant for documentary filmmakers!
-
Ohhhh...too tired...must sleep.
There is a big Rupert Holmes discussion going on at another Yahoo group, RareHarry (Nilsson.) He has lots of fans on that list!

And the word of the day is: VULGATE!
My copy of the VULGATE Bible was falling apart, so I pulled out my GLUE VAT and got to work repairing it.

I had a lot of trouble sleeping last night/this morning.
I got to bed early enough, very early in fact (having had only four hours sleep the night before), but woke up a little after midnight and simply could not get back to sleep except in spurts and sputters.
And then, when it seemed like I was finally dropping off to dreamland for a good stretch, Fletcher came into my room and stuck his nose right in the small of my back. Very rude, and very awakening.
I somehow did manage to get some sleep, and dreamed that our esteemed BK should write a musical about Nick and Nora Charles, specifically about how they met. I dreamed that it could be interesting, asking how a hardened gumshoe could meet and win the heart of a confirmed rich and famous screwball comedy heiress. (Blending two musical genres would be fun, too.)
I even dreamed the advertising line.
What you are about to see is fiction.
Only the names have been changed,
because of copyright law.
(And Asta was played by a hand puppet.)
-
yes it is the same Rod Lauren.
-
Good news from DRs DANISE and JANE!!!
DR CILLA LIZ sets the date!!! Perhaps some enterprising person at HHW can put her on YOUTUBE, then we can all see it and not so many copies will have to be made!
-
Very cold here this morning, and it's a workday. With Trish. :(
-
I now have HDTV-CABLE!!! Very nice, very different. I wasn't here when it was installed, so I had to discover a few things for myself....and it took a couple of hours to get it all settled.
I then ran the audio through my HOME THEATRE system and now everything seems to be fine!!!
Many interesting channels and services available which I will explore tonight and tomorrow. Very nice.

Yesterday, der Grampa and I engaged in grandladsitting.
It was, as always, both enjoyable and danged frustrating.
One thing that was enjoyable was introducing the grandlads to Doctor Who. We watched the first two episodes from the first series, "Rose" and "The End of the World." Alex the elder insisted that he would hate it, sat three feet in front of the TV screen, and by the end of the second episode was asking to watch the third.
I suggested that two was enough for now, so we watched something Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory instead, something William the younger pulled out to watch.
In the meantime, der Grampa's daughter, Magic Mommy, called to check up on how we were doing. When der G told her we'd been watching Doctor Who, she replied that she didn't want Alex to be watching that show.
Get this logic. It turns out that her older brother liked to watch Doctor Who. OB as an adult is an anti-social, obese know-it-all who cannot hold down a regular job. Alex is a know-it-all. She therefor considers him to be at risk to become just like his uncle, the OB. Therefor, she reasons, he should not be allowed to watch Doctor Who.
SPOILER!!!
(I did show Alex the cover of the DW soundtrack, which has David Tennant instead of Christopher Eccleston leaning up against Billie Piper, which led to trying to explain the concept of the Doctor regenerating. That led to our watching the scene where Eccleston transforms into Tennant, at the end of "Parting of the Ways." He kind of got the concept. But it connects with a comment Alex made a few weeks ago, about how he likes to know how things end without having to read/watch the stuff in the middle. Impatient little brat.)
-
Irritating news, from the lunch table.
Alex has very poor table manners.
Instead of sitting on a chair properly, he likes to tuck his feet under his butt.
He likes to insult people about what they like to eat, because anyone who likes things he doesn't like has to be inferior.
He is an extremely picky eater, only eating half of his bowl of soup and half of his grilled cheese sandwich, both of which der Grampa made special for him, which he deemed nowhere near as good as when MumMum makes them (exact same Campbells, exact same Kraft cheese).
He was extremely insulted when der Grampa insisted that he stay at the table until the rest of us had finished eating, instead of dashing off to play computer games.
And William takes his cues for how to behave from his older brother.
Making matters worse, in a second telephonic conversation, it turns out that Magic Mommy has no problem with him sitting on top of his feet.
Sheesh. And she wonders why he won't behave when they are at a restaurant.
-
The doorbell rang.
William dashed to the door, and opened it before I could get there.
It was a couple of Pentecostals, prosteletizing. I managed to shoo them away in less than three minutes (der Grampa says I'm far too polite, and he's probably right).
I tried to explain to William that opening the door when he doesn't know the people outside is a bad idea. He said Magic Mommy lets him do it all the time.
Third telephonic conversation with Magic Mommy - she's trying to discourage this. First time I've agreed with her all day.
-
And, finally, der Grampa sat down with William, a stack of books in front of them. They were age appropriate books.
William, who is in the Second Grade, cannot read.
He's got the idea of letters, and can sound them out. He cannot put the letters together to form words.
Oh, dear.
By the time Alex was William's age, he was able to form the words, and do a good job of it.
Magic Mommy and Daddy helped Alex learn to read, by reading to him and coaching him.
They aren't reading to William. They're too busy. Alex is supposed to read to William.
A nine-year old is supposed to be teaching a six-year old how to read.
This isn't working.
-
And with that, it's time to get to work. Early shift today. I'm going to try to catch up with the postings after I get home.
-
Thanks JRAND.. you just never know how the fates play out. I have 4 songs by the guy.

Good Morning, DR Singdaw.

RE: last night's IDENTITY which i actually was home to watch.
*
*
*
I think I said yesterday that I enjoy this show. But sometimes it annoys me. Some of the identities are much harder to guess. But they don't usually try to trick you. But last night i felt like they mislead the first contestant.
There was an older man with a cowboy hat. The contestant's first guess was rodeo clown (i think the rodeo part confused him). It was a reasonable guess. His second guess was deer hunter. I also thought this was a reasonable guess. But the guy lost (cause you can only get one wrong). It turns out this cowboy hat guy lives in a RV.
IMO they should not have let that man where a cowboy hat!
The second contestant was much more entertaining and had better identities to guess.
Although he had his wife there encouraging him to take the money and leave! I'm sure that was practical but not as good for the viewer! :(
-
Off to work.

Good Morning from Oz. Good night from OZ.
Now I know why Mikey had heard of Rod Lauren. I didn't think he'd taken up sandles and togas.
-
Saturday morning greetings! It's a work Saturday for me, all information-waitressing, and we have a lot of subs on board today. Could be a l-o-n-g day...
-
singdaw - Did you say yesterday that you would have liked to hear MORE of the book on the Last Starfighter CD? So glad to hear that the book segments on the CD aren't wearing out their welcome; I was concerned at one point that perhaps we had put too much of the book on there.
-
But thanks so much for your kind words about the CD. they are much appreciated.
-
I hope the Easter Bunny has skis!
der Brucer
-
Actually, DR FJL, I was just trying to be funny about the fact that the book writer ALWAYS gets short-changed on any show CD. But no, I don't feel it is overdone on Starfighter.
-
Good morning, DR SWW. Although you're probably already at work now.
Commiserations over the grandlads. Bring them on over to HHW...we'd bring them up to be fine, upstanding netizens. With a penchant for the bawdy, perhaps, but... :)

Good morning, all! I slept well, I'm alive, and I have few plans today. It's depressing being aimless in Southwestern Ohio! If I had the gumption I'd drive to Indianapolis and terrorize DR JRand56, who is now a state-of-the-art home media maven. Congrats, DR JRand56, you sound very happy about it all!
I may go out with Randy and Jo tonight, and I may call friends to see if their afternoon is open. Otherwise I shall lie here like so much fish and finish TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, a book I haven't read in 40+ years.
Yesterday, the Macbeths tried to pull something over on Randy and me, and that was quashed very easily. They're tricky, and needlessly so, but greed is more than a film with Zasu Pitts. I've also had a round with "Maestro" McGlinn this week, as you may or may not know, and there's much I'd like to say but cannot.
DR Cillaliz, I mentioned that I wanted to see the news broadcast when you first announced it, so add me to the list as well.
TOD: Romantic evenings? Some of us are still waiting for the phone to ring.

Good morning, DR SWW. Although you're probably already at work now.
He is at work- having dragged my sorry ass tired bones out of bed to give him a lift!
I stayed up late throwing my shows at FOX News shows >:(
A: Rosie's comments from the far-left are no more whacko than Robertson/Shafly from the far right - if you don't like them use the OFF button. (Rosie's rants get much more air time on Fox than they do on ABC!
B: The Virginia Beach vehicular homicides are about DRUNK DRIVING, not ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!
C: The UK and IRAN are NOT at war. The British soldier's were not POW's, they were kidnap victims, and had no actionable intelligence to give to their captors; they should have been free to say whatever was necessary to get released (which I suspect is the UK Navy policy). To listen to some semi-senile US war vet suggest they hadn't been "tortured enough" to justify their statements while in captivity is obscene!
We now return you to your regular station.

Good morning!
ANother beautiful but cool day here. It's exactly what spring ought to be, but we got spoiled with those low 80s temperatures a week or two ago, and were already thinking shorts and summer and swimming, etc. Not yet.
-
This morning, I sat down to watch BRUTE FORCE on a new Criterion DVD I just received. I'd never seen the movie before, and it was worth the wait. Endlessly compelling and with a cast of character actors that just wouldn't quit, some of them in their first film. And I guess I gflanced away during the credits or they didn't register with me, but how surprised was I when Yvonne De Carlo and Ann Blyth turned up in flashbacks detailing how Howard Duff and Burt Lancaster got caught and sent to prison in the first place!
-
I have the rest of the Criterion disc to explore (commentary, one video interview, the trailer), and then I may either watch a WILD WILD WEST episode or LAYER CAKE, depending on how much time I have left in the afternoon.
Tonight, THE LAKE HOUSE is premiering on HBO-HD. I didn't see it in the theater, and I didn't rent or buy the DVD when it was released, so this will be my first time experiencing it.
-
DR JRand,
I'm sure you discovered the HD channels on your digital cable, but just to make sure I've touched the bases, let me remind you that the regular analog channels of your local stations are not the HD channels. Several people I've helped calibrate their systems had NO idea that the HD channels were in a different place than their analog (standard definition) counterparts. Once I showed them where the HD channels were, they couldn't believe they had been watching their local channels in standard def and thinking that THIS was what high def was all about. Once they saw the real HD channels, they were amazed.
On my digital cable system (Time Warner), the CBS affiliate is Channel 2, but the CBS-HD channel is Channel 225. See what I mean? In a very different place from the regular channels.
-
I know my first partner and I spent many romantic evenings while we were together, but that ended in 1990, and I've simply forgotten them in the 17 years since we parted. I do remember a memorable weekend at a beautiful bed and breakfast run by a gay couple, so we were free to be ourselves with no fear of censure.
-

For those who are interested, sh-k-boom's second pressing of the limited edition LP/CD of The Drowsy Chaperone is now available at their web site. The first run quickly sold out. It's basically the same material as the previously released OBC, but packaged as the actual OBC of the original [fictitious] show. I believe it costs $50! :(
-
He should also check for HDTV varients of regular cable cable channels like Discovery, non-local PBS, and TNT.
He MUST see Fritz in the shower in HD!
Yes, that was what I was trying to say albeit clumsily. On my digital cable service, all of the HD offerings come in Channels 200 or later, channels that often many people don't even bother exploring. The trouble is, other standard definition offerings are mixed in among the HD channels, so it does take some exploring.
But there is SUCH a difference in TNT-HD or Discovery HD Theater from their standard definition counterparts.

I have some writing to do and then will head down to start on lunch preparations.

DR TCB ~ Case started to send some of The Brain pix yesterday -- but the files were taking forever to download, so he'll reduce them today and send them post haste...
-
I used to have telecats---they would fight over who got to sit on top of the TV, where it was warm. Now that I have a flat HG screen, they are finding other options. But this will be their last winter in a cold house. The new one has cetral heat. Hurrah!
I hope they're staying warm in sub-freezing Atlanta!

At the screening, I introduced bk to Mochael Roth, a friend who had done some music for our film. (He mostly does theatre music...) Since they both had worked with Alice Ripley, I mentioned that and they talked about her for a bit.
Later, at the restaurant, she called Michael from NY. I guess her ears were burning!
-
Peter was very glad to meet bk, since we have both benefitted so much from his community.
-
I haven't seen the hi-def version of Fritz in the shower yet, but I can say THE CLOSER in HD looks splendid!
I hope his shower scene makes the cut. Sometimes I'll put shots in promos from scenes that end up getting cut from the show for time, and that causes a bit of tsuris in the online.

SWW & DERBRUCER-I expected the exclamation for not watching Dr. Who is that it’s too scary, what a shocking reason. Those boys are lucky to have such caring grandfathers.
I wouldn’t worry too much about Alex sitting on his legs, eventually he will be too big to do that & out grow the habit and you have far more important issues to deal with.
Nice pics of the yard.

Yep! One for me, and one for you!!

DR der Brucer - I don't know...somehow I had pictured you and DR SWW with 5 petite hounds. But, from the pics, at least some of them seem quite large. Glad you have a lot of space there! :)

DR Ron Pulliam takes YaBB code to new levels of artistic expression. :)

As for the Topic of the Day...
In regards to Steve and myself, it was usually more a question of when we didn't have a romantic evening. ;)
However...
-Walking out of Urinetown to discover that Times Square was covered in snow. We walked around in the snow for a bit before heading back to our hotel. I've always liked New York City in the snow, but I came to love it that night.
-Coming home from a rehearsal and slow-dancing in our kitchen to Ella Fitzgerald's rendition of "This Time The Dream's On Me".
-And the previously mentioned dinner at Victoria & Albert's in Disneyworld.
:)
-
Cilla, you're going to be busy making copies! I would like a copy of the weather cast as well.

Well, I think that's quite a nice thing to hear ANY day.
Sounds like you're doing a great job, DR Jose.

I walked with Anthony up to Dance Class at Chelsea Studios (last week Nick Dalton was there working the desk but not this Saturday) then I walked around Chelsea. Even though it's nippy outside it wasn't unbearable so I stayed outside (and in when I went in to stores) and just got home about 15 minutes ago. We left about 10 minutes after 1 so I had a nice, leisurely two hour walk. When Ant comes home from dance class we will have spinach lasagne and a salad for dinner and then relax until 9pm when we will watch Are You Being Served?
Tomorrow, even though it's Easter, we have nothing special planned. No Easter Egg hunts, no bunny baskets, nada. It's nice actually.

Yes, Fletcher needs to lose some weight!
Tell me about it!
Marty - full name Martin Nuyer (we found him at the pound at New Years) - black Lab mix - 70 pounds.
Mikey - full name Michael Augustus Snipps (another pound puppy - they insisted on snipping him) - terrier/pug mix - 20 pounds.
Bonnie - full name Bonnie Bell Begonia - one of our street rescues - blonde, perhaps some basangi in her heritage - maybe 30 pounds now.
Buster (my buddy) - full name Buster Beauregard Begonia - Bonnie's brother, same heritage - my guess is between 35 to 40 pounds.
And Fletcher - full name Jeremy Be-Bop Fletcher - the overweight Dalmatian - 125 pounds! Yep, him is a fat dog!

Added all my little fixes from my sleepless night, most of which worked really well and one of which made me laugh out loud.
I still have a little to do, which I'll get to when I return from rehearsal, which I'm now on my way to.
I'll have to look, but Sondheim At The Movies is either gone or close to it. I'll update upon my return.

You should have stayed away from the tap water.

But thanks so much for your kind words about the CD. they are much appreciated.
Isn't amazing how we tend to take things for granted. As an actor, I know how important it is to hear from people that they enjoyed, were moved, were touched, or were delighted after seeing one of my performances. And yet, sometimes, I forget that regardless of whether you are an insecure actor, like myself; or an extemely talented team like Fred and Skp, we all need to be complimented on our work.
So, if haven't said it enough, let me say it again....
I love THE LAST STARFIGHTER CD.
[/size]
-
Glad to hear you liked BRUTE FORCE. I haven't seen it yet, but must do so. I do like Jules Dassin.
After not seeing some of his movies for many years and others like BRUTE FORCE not at all, I've become a big, big fan.
-
Will we never get to page four.
Certainly.
-
Thanks DRs MATTH & derBRUCER. Yes, I was exploring those upper peninsula channels last night....almost shocking difference in picture quality!
On what station does Fritz take a shower?
TNT-HD when the new season of THE CLOSER begins.
-
I loved the movie THE LAKE HOUSE!
I'll be back on later tonight with my thoughts after I've seen it.
-
I began my afternoon listening to the audio commentary on the BRUTE FORCE DVD by Alain SIlver and James Ursini. They offering up information on the filming, stories about the participants (including many who were later blacklisted), and analysis of Dassin's techniques in making the movie - what a good commentary should be. Really enjoyed it.
Still have some other special features to get to.
-
For a change of pace, I watched another WILD WILD WEST episode "The Night of the Watery Grave." The best thing about the episode for me was seeing a major heartthrob of mine - John Ashley - in a key guest star role as a Navy lieutenant. With the lush color that is featured in these episodes, let me say that Mr. Ashley has never looked sexier or more desirable. WHAT a gorgeous man!
-
All the snow has melted away. An April snow.
(A Dorothy Fields reference, always appropriate.)
But it's still a good night for French Onion Soup, and a salad with a warm bacon vinaigrette.
"April Snow" has been on my mind all day. Dinner sounds yummy.
-
When I go back down, I'll contie with BRUTE FORCE's special features waiting for the start of THE LAKE HOUSE.
-
One more comment about BRUTE FORCE. One of the men who shares a cell with Burt Lancaster is actor John Hoyt.
Now, I've seen John Hoyt in films and television shows for decades, and always thought he was a a wonderful actor - commanding, authorative, even sneaky and devious when the situation called for it. But I never thought of him as a sex symbol or even a man who would have had a decent body at all. At one point during the film as the men are getting ready for bed, Hoyt has his pajama top on part of the way. The body he displays practically made me gasp for air!
If I remember to bring it back upstairs tonight when I log back on after evening viewing, I'll do a frame capture and show you what I'm talking about. Those who know who he is will be equally amazed, I think.
-
Heading down now for evening viewing.
WBBL.

I was sorry to read about the death of actor, Edward Mallory, who was a major force on DAYS OF OUR LIVES during its heyday in the 70s (I think before DakotaCelt's time).
-
At the screening, I introduced bk to Mochael Roth, a friend who had done some music for our film. (He mostly does theatre music...) Since they both had worked with Alice Ripley, I mentioned that and they talked about her for a bit.
Later, at the restaurant, she called Michael from NY. I guess her ears were burning!
Are Michael and Mochael brothers?
[/i]
-
Yes, a sad story of Rod Lauren...and too bad too, as I would like to have interviewed him...but being behind bars in the Phillipines makes that rather difficult.
Here is Mr. Lauren in a scene from the Herman Cohen (!) film THE BLACK ZOO.
He is too young for you, Mike.

BK - I still haven't gotten my order from the first batch. How was it sent?
-
I have returned with my newly purchased laptop computer. I decided that it was a necessity for when I travel to LA, NY, and Wyoming this year. Of course now I cannot afford to go to travel NY or Wyoming....unless I get to selling more stuff on Ebay!
I must root through my treasures and see what might sell for a hefty price so that I can continue to live in the style that I seem to be trying to accustom myself to.
-
TCB - Many thanks.

Page 5 Herman Cohen and cast dance...I wonder which performer in this photo was Herman's favorite? Hmmm.
So, who was Mr. Herman Cohen's favorite?

Don't know if it will snow but it's going to be chilly, more like late winter than early spring. I guess those balmy days in November, December and January were a curse.

I think Jose would probably attend the Eater Parade.

Hold your hats and hallelujah, I do believe I just finished a book.
-
I'm sure I'll spend most of tomorrow going over the seventy-something new pages I wrote in the last nine days, and I have to make sure I like my ending (I think I do), but for all intents and purposes the book is finished. I shall celebrate at Genghis Cohen this very evening.

Is it going to snow tomorrow in New York for the Eater Easter Parade?
In your Easter bonnet
with all the snow upon it,
you'll be the coldest lady
in the Easter Parade!
I'll be all in thermal covering,
and when over you they're hovering
I'll be the warmest fella
in the Easter Parade!
On the Avenue, Fifth Avenue,
the paramedics will test us
and you will find that you
Are coming down with Asian Flu
Oh, I could write a sonnet
about your Easter bonnet
and of the girl who's freezing
at the Easter Parade!
With apologies to Fred.

Oy and vey, I forgot two titles for the sale list - I'll go back and add them to the list, but they are:
The Stephen Sondheim Album - a GREAT album with great singers like Brent Barrett, Lea de Laria, Norm Lewis, Christiane Noll, Emily Skinner, Alice Ripley, Dorothy Loudon
Christiane Noll: A Broadway Love Story - for my money, in my top five - everything about it came together so perfectly and I just adore it.

Now you know why Woody calls Fletcher "The Pony".
When we first got him he was trim and fit:

Then he learned stunts like this:
Now, there is no where you can hid food - he opens closets, drawers, cupboads, climbs on the stove to pull pans down from the rear burners, dumpster dives in the garbage disposal in the sink, etc!
When the food bowl is empty, he drags out a covered plastic container where we keep an emergency supply of food (tasty puppy kibble), even though there is an open bag of the regular low-fat food nearby!

CONGRATS, bk!!! Must feel great.
Teacher's pet!! ;D
-
I had a fun day at the mall. I decided to put together a basket or bag (not sure about that part) of goodies for my mom for her birthday. So I bought some fun costume jewelry, bubble bath, tea, the free gift from my estee lauder purchases, godiva chocolate and maybe some more fun things. Just a pamper yourself bunch of goodies to be topped off with spring flowers to be delivered on the big day.
She's been sick again today. Nothing serious, but she's not up to snuff yet.
-
Will we never get to page nine?
Well, obviously this one is K-nine! :D
-
Congrats on finishing the book, BK. I'm really looking forward to reading it.
Some'd rather Finish The Hat, and they're ain't cats! ;)
-
Teacher's pet!! ;D
François, you ARE so funny! :o
-
François, you ARE so funny! :o
Well, thank you! I love you too! 8)
-
Hey, here's that bloody page 9!
Let's them dance all night if they wish, or until the vaches come home!!
-
DR François has done his level best to get us closer to 400 for the day.
Alas, I have a big singing day tomorrow and must away.
Pleasant dreams to all.
-
DR François has done his level best to get us closer to 400 for the day.
Yes, but nobody wants to "play" with me!
I guess I must be smelling real bad!
Or have bad breath, etc, etc! It's a puzzlement!
"You Can't Please Everybody,
So You've Got To Please Yourself!"
It's very cold here too!
I can't wait for Spring to really spring!
Yak, yak, yak, yak......
Bla, bla, bla, bla!
Happy "big singing day tomorrow" DR Singdaw!

Well, I AM a Jules Dassin fan. ;)
-
Well, I AM a Jules Dassin fan. ;)
Oooooh!
YOU'RE THE ONE! ;)
-
Hold your hats and hallelujah, I do believe I just finished a book.
CONGRATULATIONS! :D

**A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO BK FOR FINISHING ANOTHER BOOK!!***

Jane, you snuck in just before me!
-
Good Evening!
Greetings from the sitzprobe!
It's amazing just how magical these rehearsals can be at times. :)
OK... Break is over...
Laters...
-
So, who was Mr. Herman Cohen's favorite?
That's a Hardin!
-
Jane, you snuck in just before me!
:)
And now I have to leave.
'night.
-
Randy, Jo, and I just finished watching Scorsese's THE DEPARTED. I enjoyed it.
That's my only news. For now.
-
TOD:
I am still waiting.
-
Hello, DR FRANCOIS!
-
Oh, that photo was from BERSERK! So, that good looking guy was Ty Hardin! So, he did a love scene with Joan Crawford in 1968! Damn! Yuck!!!
I didn't know who Herman Cohen was until I looked him up on the Internet. He also produced I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF. That was directed by Gene Fowler. I knew Gene Fowler. I stayed at his house. Actually, I knew his daughter, Kim, better than I knew Gene; but he was a wonderful man. edisauras is probably more familiar with him from his work as a film editor.
-
Today we had a day-before-Easter party. We colored eggs, baked cookies, made crafts, and wore out the old people (me). A good time was had by all.
-
I was hoping to go to bed early tonight, but it is obvious that unless someone does something soon; we will not get to 400 posts today!
-
And since I know you are really wanting to see them, here are some photos:

Nostalgia! Little Violin!

I "know" Beth Fowler!!
She's quite a Tea Pot! :D

BK - I'll check with the mail room on Monday. The problem with delivery confirmation in our building is that if we aren't home when they attempt delivery, it sometimes gets shipped back to the Times Square post office. But they normally leave some sort of slip alerting us that it's there.
-
FJL, before you go! Is there sheet music available for any of the songs from STARFIGHTER?
-
Boy this is going to be a long evening!
I'm game for long... stuff! :o :o :-[ :-[ :-X :-X ??? ??? ;)

-Filled DH Richard's Easter basket and one for the new DG (Dear Girlfriend) of our DS Rob, while Richard filled baskets for Rob and me
-
Sorry, different family.
I'm sure it was! Is!
Different family but same name!
Any good reason for posting a stupid post anyway! ;)

TCB - Which song or songs would you like? I'm sure Skip could print it out for you if you PM me.

Do you need to KILL all of my stupid jokes?!
I KNOW! I do have the cds and I have PLAYED them, thank you very beaucoup!
I am French but NOT that French! (That's a cue for some DR Kimlet to make a snarky remark!)
-
Vibes to DR GINNY for her stamina and patience in dealing with her patrons....
Thanks, DR JRand. It helped when I realized that today was my last information-waitressing day until April 27.

Follow a theme; follow the fellow who follows a themei

But that was a theme fatal!! NO groaning!!

Oh, like Abbott and Costello?
Sorry, wrong comedy team.

Push!
How's the delivery Miss Scarlett?!

TCB, I believe FJL's waiting for you to tell him which song(s) you'd like....
-
... and HUH? is not one of them! It was deleted in Orlando! LOL!
And BK will put it on his next cd production!
-
Oooh! FJL, Ben and Ginny and Laura are gone!
Oy, vey!
-
TCB, I believe FJL's waiting for you to tell him which song(s) you'd like....
I already sent him a PM telling him what songs.
-
Well, 5:11 am here!
-
I already sent him a PM telling him what songs.
Okey Dock!
-
PM: pre marital???!
-
I'm freezing cold in that @#%* hotel lobby!
-
I already sent him a PM telling him what songs.
I am crazy about:
LOVE IS LIKE WATER
REACH OUT
TO MAKE A HERO
CAVES OF THE HEART
......oh Hell, I like them all.

Will we never get to page eight?
Yep.
-
Will we never get to page nine?
Sure.

Here's the moment with John Hoyt from BRUTE FORCE that I was talking about.
-
Here's the moment with John Hoyt from BRUTE FORCE that I was talking about.
Wow, cozy prison cell. Four prisoners and only two bunks!
-
Here's the moment with John Hoyt from BRUTE FORCE that I was talking about.
I like the sequel better: BRUCE FORTE! ;)
-
Wow, cozy prison cell. Four prisoners and only two bunks!
Oh, but that's not what MattH was pointing out!! :D
-
After I finished listening to the the commentary track on BRUTE FORCE, I watched the other special features which, for this Criterion disc, weren't so special. There was a fifteen minute discussion on BRUTE FORCE's place among the great prison movies of all-time by criminalogist/author Paul Mason. Some great stills from the filming including quite a few with Dassin and/or Hellinger on the set talking with the actors. And some wet-dream-caliber pics of Burt Lancaster.
-
Wow, cozy prison cell. Four prisoners and only two bunks!
You're only seeing the right wall, TCB.
-
Here's the moment with John Hoyt from BRUTE FORCE that I was talking about.
I didn't recognize the name, but what an impressive resume.
-
You're only seeing the right wall, TCB.
I know, but I like my version better.

-
Well, I am going to have to turn in now. Sunrise Services come very early, and it is going to be a long day.
At least we are over 300 posts, which isn't bad considering DakotaCelt, edisauras, and Miss Karen are all missing this evening.
-
Next, I watched THE LAKE HOUSE. The fantasy premise was rather charming and endearing, and it was easy to get caught up in the love story that was developing.
However, I sensed the identity of the man hit in the street, and when he didn't call at the arranged time (forget about the dinner date), I knew that it was.
Of course, I found the ending a total cheat on the premise that was set up though, I guess in a fantasy, you're free to change to rules to suit your wishes. I didn't think it played fair, however. I would have rather had a bittersweet ending.
-
I didn't recognize the name, but what an impressive resume.
He's one of those character actors that seemed to be on every TV show and in every film that needed that kind of stern authority figure. (That's not the role he played in BRUTE FORCE. He played a charming con man in it.)

You were much kinder than most of the reviewers.
-
I finished my evening with the first AUSTIN POWERS INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY film. I'd never seen any of the three movies, so this was my first (and last) encounter with them. A silly premise for a sketch stretched to the breaking point at 90 minutes. Ugh!
-
Page Twelve Harry and Hermione Dance!!!
-
Tomorrow, I'll be checking out the Blu-ray disc version of BULLIT. That should be an eye-opener.
-
Heading down to bed now.
Good night!
-
I know, I know...
And I did go to bed. But couldn't sleep. So now here I am, ready to help François push us over the top.
-
Give us a topic.
-
Back from a scintillatingly scintillating supper with edisaurus and company. More later - must watch a motion picture on DVD right now - but do let's have a frenzy or five, shall we?
FJL - you don't have to be there for delivery confirmation - they just scan the package when they give it to your mail room. Talk to these idiots. Remember, I sent you one package that went missing, and I got it back like three months later.
-
You can be quite strong with them, because they are not doing what they're supposed to do.
-
DR François's auditing job must cause him to have to work odd hours.
-
Talk to these idiots.
Better yet, string them up by their thumbs! :)
-
They're probably responsible for all this stupid Daylight Savings Time change stuff, as well.
-
bk's TOD has been somewhat of a bust. Not too many [I almost said hardcore] romantics out there in HHW land.
Or them that are ain't talkin'. :)
-
DR JoseSPiano said he might aid me in an avatar makeover.
He's so handy that way!
-
I think DRs Miss Karen, Boo-Key, and EverLovinHeather must be having some bang up PAR-tay.
-
I'm going to have to check online to see if I can wrastle up a menu for Genghis Cohen's.
-
bk, just finished Kritzerland. What a cliffhanger!
SPOILER!!
I was really hoping that Susan might re-appear. And so she has.
-
OK, you E&T H/Ks leave me no choice...
-
I'm going to have to CHEAT LIKE HELL.
-
Behold the hills of tomorrow!
-
Behold the limitless sky!
-
Fling wide the gates to a world that waits!
-
As our journey start, behold our hearts are high!
-
Beyond the hills of tomorrow
-
Are skies more beautiful still!
-
Behold! Begin!
-
There are worlds to win!
-
May we come to trust the dreams we must fulfil.
-
Umm.... I'm calling Warner Bros. and Stephen Sondheim....
DR singdaw - Can you say "copyright"?
;)
-
Horse!
-
Mule!
-
Horse!
-
Mule!
-
And that concludes our little HHW production of Merrilly on the Roof.
-
*And I have to say I was PISSED when I saw the production of Merrily that Arena Stage mounted in the early 90s. David Garrison was Charlie, Victor Garber was Frank, Becky Ann Baker was Mary and Marin Mazzie was Gussie. In any case...
The program listed "Hills of Tomorrow" bookending the show. Alas, when it came time for the finale, there were no "Hills". Totally ruined the show for me. Well, not totally, but I felt a bit cheated.
-
A Mark Goodson/Bill Todman production.
-
Note to self: No more wagashi for DR singdaw.
;D
-
-But I'm glad you enjoyed them.
-
And isn't it ODD that the only complete musical setting of that number is found in the vocal SELECTIONS.
Well, it might also be in the ALL SONDHEIM volumes; I can't remember at the moment.
-
In any case...
The internet connection here at the hotel seems really spotty tonight. Again. :-\
But I shall post while I can.
-
They're treating your company pretty shabbily, IMHO.
Spotty internet? Bar that doesn't stay open to accommodate your hours?
STRIKE! STRIKE!!!
-
And isn't it ODD that the only complete musical setting of that number is found in the vocal SELECTIONS.
Well, it might also be in the ALL SONDHEIM volumes; I can't remember at the moment.
-And the piano vocal/score... Which I sort of find a bit "weird", since the version that is currently licensed does not resemble the "for sale" version of the P/V score. But I am thankful it's still in print.
-
And I think the only complete RECORDING of that number may be that old Los Angeles Chorale Sondheim LP that has never been issued on CD.
-
They're treating your company pretty shabbily, IMHO.
Spotty internet? Bar that doesn't stay open to accommodate your hours?
STRIKE! STRIKE!!!
Well... I really can't complain all that much... John Kander treated me to dinner tonight. :)
And I have to say, that sure is one tasty(!) burger at Dressing Room.
-
DR JoseSPiano, I'm looking at that vocal score right now. Maybe my memory is playing tricks with me, but I could have sworn there was a whole middle section with new musical material that was never on the OBC.
I don't see that here, though. I had thought it was published in the vocal selections.
Hmm...
-
And I think the only complete RECORDING of that number may be that old Los Angeles Chorale Sondheim LP that has never been issued on CD.
I think it appears on a Gay Men's Chorus CD too - although, I can't remember which one. -Which CD, nor which chorus.
-
Well, I hope you at least got libations from the Restaurant bar! :)
-
I think it appears on a Gay Men's Chorus CD too - although, I can't remember which one. -Which CD, nor which chorus.
I'm confused...
Doesn't Los Angeles Chorale = Gay Men's Chorus? ;)
Well, perhaps not. Everyone in the movie business appears to be closeted.
-

Hmm...
I think you may be right. And I think I remember asking Mr. Sondheim about that extra material. I'm trying to remember if what appears in the vocal selections was the original version, or if that material came from the La Jolla version. -Which is where some of those songs in the vocal selections come from ("Honey", etc.).
*I guess I/you could check freehandmusic.com to see if it's in their inventory.
*FreeHand is the new version of Sunhawk - which is the online publishing division of Warner Bros.
-
We're closing in on 400, and the West Coast still has 2.5 hours to post away...
-
Singdaw on the Roof
-
Well, I hope you at least got libations from the Restaurant bar! :)
Well, Mr. Kander did. Since I had to be functional for rehearsal...
And if I had known that Mr. Kander was treating, I would have ordered the lobster. ;D
-
...And since I was not able to stay for dessert, Mr. Kander has promised to treat to me dessert at later date.
-
Open a new window, open a singdaw
-
*I guess I/you could check freehandmusic.com to see if it's in their inventory.
*FreeHand is the new version of Sunhawk - which is the online publishing division of Warner Bros.
Good to know; thanks!
Unfortunate name, though.
Paging DR elmore3003!
-
And I guess I should add - especially knowing this crowd ;) - that I was not the only at the dinner table tonight. Mr. Kander ended up picking up the tab for all of the music staff. :)
-
Ah, our friend
and foe, DR FJL. ;)
-
Good to know; thanks!
Unfortunate name, though.
Paging DR elmore3003!
Umm... That should be
Paging DR TCB
-You still have much to learn, Grasshopper.
-
Here to save the day. Night. Whatever.
-
Singdaw for Hitler and Germany
(we've done that one, haven't we?)
-
I was referring to that riff of several weeks ago, where I thought DR elmore3003 was getting grief for referring to working on all his manuscripts BY HAND.
-
Oh, well, if you're going to play that game, don't leave out
THE DINGDAW ATE MY BABY.
-
And one for Meryl
-
The Goddess herself.
-
i'm falling asleep. Time for some Sophie's Choice coffee
-
Well, I suppose I could just open a cookbook and start typing stuff out...
-
with some Creamer vs. Creamer
-
In any case...
The sitzprobe went very well. We have a great band, and the charts are in good shape. We spent a bunch of time today cleaning up parts, and we'll spend a good chunk of time tomorrow morning and afternoon doing more tidying up. But we should be in good shape for the first preview Tuesday night.
*Alas, when I say "we", it's more like "they"... Tomorrow is my last official day with All About Us. And I have to say, I really am going to miss this cast and crew. However, I think I will come back Tuesday for the first preview, and, hopefully for Opening Night on Saturday. -I think it's Saturday.
It really has been great being a part of this family, and I truly feel honored to have been welcomed into the fold with such open arms.
-
We're closing in on 400
-
And there's François again!
If he only knew the trouble I take to always include the "ç"!! :)
-
Well, I suppose I could just open a cookbook and start typing stuff out...
Um, that's my territory.
-
Welcomed into the fold with open arms?
(Giggle)
-
with some Creamer vs. Creamer
Hey, that's pretty good, for falling asleep status!
-
Fold? Is that a euphemism?
-
Welcomed into the fold with open arms?
(Giggle)
I was thinking it...
Oh, I was thinking it!
-
John Kander treated me to dinner tonight. :)
My! I'm so happy that you're still talking to us!! :D
-
Fold? Is that a euphemism?
It's what they're calling it, these days... :-X
-
DR singdaw - Just when did you eat the wagashi?
And I'm guessing you enjoyed them with some sake?
-
Yes, but to accept that invitation, he had to turn Eartha down.
Fortunately, there wasn't too much of a scene.
-
I feel giddy, and fizzy, and fine! :)
-
My! I'm so happy that you're still talking to us!! :D
Well, I'm not really talking to you right now. "My people" are talking to you right now.
-
Mr. Kander has promised to treat to me essert at later date.
Are you SURE you really are sober?! ;D
-
Miss America can just resign!
-
Very funny, DR JoseSPiano.
Actually, I rationed them and spread them out over the course of the entire day.
Perhaps it's a cumulative effect.
-
...And I have to say one of my favorite lyrics from All About Us is:
So, if someone tells you
"Get A Life!"
Remember that you can!
-
with some Creamer vs. Creamer
:D :D
-
Speaking of Miss America, have I said how much I enjoyed Kate Shindle in Legally Blonde?
-
Since the labels were not in English, who knows what the side effects may be. :o
-
And there's François again!
If he only knew the trouble I take to always include the "ç"!! :)
I like to make people.... suffer! ;)
-
Very funny, DR JoseSPiano.
Actually, I rationed them and spread them out over the course of the entire day.
Perhaps it's a cumulative effect.
You did remember to take the wrappers off first, didn't you?
-
Speaking of Miss America, have I said how much I enjoyed Kate Shindle in Legally Blonde?
No, you haven't give us one word about the show. So, spill it!
-
I like to make people.... suffer! ;)
Or would that be "çuffer"?
-
It's what they're calling it, these days... :-X
sounding like elmore the other day!! ;)
-
You did remember to take the wrappers off first, didn't you?
;D
-
The Barber of Cedille
-
And one for More!
More? Catch him! Grab him!
More liver! More liver!
-
çufferin' çuccotash!
-
Cedilla,
I just learned to post a cedilla
And now my silly post
Can be the silly toast
Of France
-
sounding like elmore the other day!! ;)
It seems to be a frequent refrain around here.
-
DR singdaw - Don't you have an Easter service or two to sing in
the morning a few hours?
-
And the living room is filling up nicely.
-
DR singdaw - Don't you have an Easter service or two to sing in the morning a few hours?
Yes, but now I'm on a roll buttered croissant.
-
Or would that be "çuffer"?
Well... if you wish!
It's only when a C is between to voyels that it needs to have a cillaliz, err, a cedilla to sound SSSSSSS!
Interesting, no?! :)
-
I'm catching my second wind, as it were.
-
çufferin' çuccotash!
Oh, that's daffy!
-
Is welcoming into the fold a Keyster Siunday reference?
-
Well, I'm not really talking to you right now. "My people" are talking to you right now.
"My people"
Who Don't Need
"Your people"....
-
But JoseSPiano is absolutely right...If I don't away to bed very soon, I shall sleep through tomorrow night's run through of The Skin of Our Teeth, and I would not to embarrass him in that way.
-
Follow the fold and stray no more
Stray no more
Stray no more
-
Gives a new menaing to folding chairs
-
I learned about the cedilla a long long time aigu
-
Hello and goodnight. I rented Grey's Anatomy and watched the first 5 episodes tonight. I've seen an episode here and there, but it's nice to see it from the beginning. My local Blockbuster doesn't carry The Closer, which I thought was a bit wierd. I may have to go back to netflix for a month or two and rents some things I want to see.

Night all. I slept 11 hours last night. I'd love to do a repeat tonight. I'm not doing one thing for Easter. I thought about going to my parents' house, but I'll be there next weekend, so I decided to stay home and get some rest. I'll probably do a marathon of Grey's Anatomy. I still have 1/2 of season 1 and the first 5 episodes of season 2. That's all they have at Blockbuster, so if there's more available I'll have to wait.
I must admit it reminds me of when I started practicing law at the public defender's office in Phoenix. I had no clue what I was doing and I was working my rear off and we all spent so much time together that...well...things happened :)

Today, my niece came over to my place and we took almost all of the boxes in my extra bedroom down to my living room. I now have room in the extra bedroom to set up shelves and since everything is down in the living room, the plan is to go through everything and get rid of most of it. I put it all down in the living room with the hope that with it all in the way, I'll really WANT to go through it all. Well, that's the plan...still.
