Here's the moment with John Hoyt from BRUTE FORCE that I was talking about.

After I finished listening to the the commentary track on BRUTE FORCE, I watched the other special features which, for this Criterion disc, weren't so special. There was a fifteen minute discussion on BRUTE FORCE's place among the great prison movies of all-time by criminalogist/author Paul Mason. Some great stills from the filming including quite a few with Dassin and/or Hellinger on the set talking with the actors. And some wet-dream-caliber pics of Burt Lancaster.

Well, I am going to have to turn in now.  Sunrise Services come very early, and it is going to be a long day.

At least we are over 300 posts, which isn't bad considering DakotaCelt, edisauras, and Miss Karen are all missing this evening.

Next, I watched THE LAKE HOUSE. The fantasy premise was rather charming and endearing, and it was easy to get caught up in the love story that was developing.

However, I sensed the identity of the man hit in the street, and when he didn't call at the arranged time (forget about the dinner date), I knew that it was.

Of course, I found the ending a total cheat on the premise that was set up though, I guess in a fantasy, you're free to change to rules to suit your wishes. I didn't think it played fair, however. I would have rather had a bittersweet ending.

He's one of those character actors that seemed to be on every TV show and in every film that needed that kind of stern authority figure. (That's not the role he played in BRUTE FORCE. He played a charming con man in it.)

I finished my evening with the first AUSTIN POWERS INTERNATIONAL MAN OF MYSTERY film. I'd never seen any of the three movies, so this was my first (and last) encounter with them. A silly premise for a sketch stretched to the breaking point at 90 minutes. Ugh!
