Well, you've read the notes, the notes were sans ire, and now it is time for you to post until the irked cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: SOMATIC!
-
Morning all.
That is all.
-
The heat wave seems to have broken, at least for a few days.
The window is open and the fan is on and I'm sitting in cool air without an air conditioner for the first time in days!
-
Oatmeal, walnuts, cinnamon and a plum with coffee.
-
It will be a long week at the office.
-
I hope that Perfect Hermany arrives today.
And so, for now, goodbye.

TOD
It seems to be a selling point these days. "Based on a true story" "Based on events that really happened" "Suggested by a true story" Use one of these phrases (or a similar one) and you have a "docudrama" Even Plan 9 From Outer Space is based on"true events" :-)
-
Good morning, all.
-
I don't think the heat wave has broken here. The AC just kicked in.
-
TOD: I have no memory this morning, but some of the fact-based made-for-TV movies or mini-series I remember enjoying (and the facts are probably fast and lose in many):
Roots
Sybil
Masada
Eva Peron
John Adams
-
Good morning, all! I will shortly be headed to Toyland for a day of library work. I am hoping on my returb I find in today's mail the long-awaited check and my Jason Graae CD.
I have little else to report. The heat has broken; I am happy.
-
Off to Toyland! More later.
-
I guess DR ELMORE never found his soda.
-
TOD:
Hmmm... nothing is coming to mind at the mo' as far as this genre is concerned except for LITTLE GLORIA, HAPPY AT LAST, which I don't doubt was based on shakey facts. But it was an enjoyable TV movie.

A short clip of

the Gay puppets from Avenue Q. They got married yesterday.

Here is an adorable story about
Volunteer Flower Girls (http://blogs.villagevoice.com/runninscared/2011/07/these_little_gi.php)
at Brooklyn's Borough Hall. The parents brought them in case anyone wanted flower girls for their weddings.
-
Watching the news reports of the first gay marriages in New York state take place (especially that of Phyllis and Connie) was the one high point for me during an otherwise crappy weekend.
-
Good Morning!
I'm up, I'm up... And I really wish the phone hadn't rang at 8:30.
-
But... I had planned to get up early anyway, so...
-
And... Since I had already hit snooze on my alarm, well...
Good Morning!
-
And...
I think I'm going to treat myself to a non-bowl-of-cereal breakfast.
Laters...
-
Jose, did I miss it? Was there something funny your folks did about tickets to your show?
-
I guess DR ELMORE never found his soda.
It wasn't the soda I'm missing, since the glass may have been empty; it's the damned glass itself! Things don't vanish for too long in my apartment because there's no space, but this really has me perplexed. If the apartment ghost took it, God knows where and when it will turn up.
I had a rather unhappy arrival at Toyland, which is very disordered today, and I need to lay down some laws to my librarian.
-
Good morning. What a glorious night of storms we had here last night! The only downside I have seen so far is that my datura bush got badly damaged. It will grow back, though.
-
I will have to look carefully for hawk moth caterpillars when I cut it back. I used to have lots of foliage for moths, now, not so much.
-
We had rain!! Wain at wast!
-
Page two at wast!~
-
We had two brief downpours yesterday. My tomatoes greatly appreciated it.

Monday morning greetings! Richard and I are easing into the week with a trip later to the University of Cincinnati bookstore for some rehearsal dinner decor and to a showing somewhere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2. We'll eat a meal out at some point - late lunch, early dinner, probably.
-
We had a night of thunder here, which is a most unusual occurrence. It actually kept me awake.
-
Was PSYCHO somatic?

QUIZ SHOW
GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK
A PERFECT STORM
APOLLO 13
That last one stands out in my mind because of Rob. He was 10 when it was released and I don't remember if he saw it in the theaters. But we bought it as soon as it came out on video(tape) and he watched it over and over. In the final scene, when Tom Hanks (as Lovell) says something about wondering who will be next to walk on the moon, I heard Rob whisper, "Me."
-
And...
I'm back from breakfast.
And Audra McDonald is about to appear on "The View".

Questions for you DOWNTON ABBEY experts:
1. Why would separating Cora's fortune from the Estate necessitate selling Downton to pay for anything (a la Lord Grantham's assertion in the third or fourth episode).
2. Did Mary actually have "relations" with the Turk?
-
I'm up. The good news is the Jacuzzi problems seem to be done by having the switch on manual. So, I got my eight hours of sleep.
-
I've decided to do the jog in the later afternoon. Don't love that, but there's just not quite enough time this morning.
-
BK, if your jacuzzi has an "auto" setting, did you check to see if the timer got messed with somehow?
-
And...
It's started to rain here in Centreville, Virginia.
-
Oh...
Wait...
I believe it's already stopped.
-
And...
Good Afternoon!
-
OK...
Time to not be a lazy, couch-bound slug for a couple of hours.
Laters...
-
The Jacuzzi doesn't have settings - the pool pump does and those settings are what they've always been. Something is shorting out in that, I'd guess, but why it makes it so you can't turn it off on the remote or in the Jacuzzi itself is just odd.

2. Did Mary actually have "relations" with the Turk?
1. Well...., perhaps this "explanation" I found on a website might help: Cora is a “buccaneer,” an American heiress that married into the English aristocracy and whose fortune saved Downton Abbey from ruin 24 years earlier. Robert’s father, the prior Earl, tied up Cora’s fortune into Downton so tightly that to carve it out of the land and title will leave the estate in ruins. As a result, Crawley refuses to fight the entail, a British legality that forces the estate to be left to a male heir. The way I remember it, the law favors the entailment. As there is a person to whom it can be turned over, the entailment prevails. At the end of the first season (as I recall), Crawley decides to chuck the entail leaving Cora free to take action to get her money out of it. The estate cannot exist without the financial support.
2. Don't know...but even to have a naked man die in your bed, before "relations" can take place, was total ruin and disgrace in "those times".
-
My ole buddy, Larry Drake (Benny of LA LAW fame) and I spent the weekend at the FRIGHT NIGHT FILM FESTIVAL this weekend....being celebrities. We must be. It says so on our badges.

IIRC...
1. The estate was poor before Hugh Bonneville (I can't remember the character's name) married Elizabeth McGovern (Cora, right?). In fact, that was the main reason he married her in the first place--to bring new wealth into the estate in order to for it to continue to run on a day-to-day basis financially. Without Cora's money, there would be no estate and everything would need to be sold off.
2. I would opine yes but that it didn't come to completion (though it would have opened an interesting plotline if she found herself preggers weeks later...)
-
D'oh! DR Ron provided a better explaination...
-
Thanks for thoughts about DOWNTON. We get the history of why Grantham married Cora, and the money she brought into the Estate, we were just confused as to why *Grantham* (as opposed to whoever took over) would need to sell the Estate if they were able to divorce Cora's money from it. It seemed like whoever inherited the Estate and title would have that responsibility. My initial question probably wasn't clear.
We, too, don't think Mary had relations, I was just curious what others thought.

When the series ran on Masterpiece Theatre, host Laura Linney provided an explanation of estate entailments that's probably missing on the DVD or Blue-Ray.

Well, I didn't get the news I wanted from the vet about Joshie's teeth. The regular vet looked over the records and is going to refer us to a veterinary dentist, who will pull all his teeth. It's a good thing I love him. Joshie, that is, not the vet.
-
Meanwhile, Joshie is really unhappy with me today. He thought we were done on Thursday.

I hope that Perfect Hermany arrives today.

Home at last! And in a downpour, which is even better.

We belonged to a swim club in Pennsylvania that had a guest speaker one evening, a scientist who had gone into space. He showed clips from his trip & answered questions. Bryan decided he wanted to be an astronaut, that is until shorty after the Challenger blew up in space.

Nice pic DR Charles Pogue.

DR Laura I'm sorry the medication isn't helping Joshie. VIBES TO HIM!!!

I really wasn't sure what happened. I did think when asked she could have said he forced himself on her. He did initially.

Did you look in the cupboard with clean glasses? Or in the freezer?

Sorry to hear that Laura.
-
DR Elmore, did you look under the bed?

Thanks for the good thoughts for Joshie. The vet hasn't called me yet.
-
DR Elmore, did you look under the bed?
Yep! First place I looked.
-
Did you put it behind the computer monitor so it wouldn't spill on the keyboard?
-
Did you set it on a book shelf?
-
where did you have it last?
-
Did you have it near a book? Did you have it in nook?

Do you like green eggs and ham, do you like them Sam I am?

Speaking of which, my 23 year old niece is "in a relationship with" a 46 year old man. Maybe it shouldn't bug me, but it does
-
That's a good one Laura, not that I have ever put a glass behind a monitor.
-
Cilla I can understand that.

THE CLOSER is off to a hilarious start tonight. I hope the lively humor galops through the next hour. Part o the plot is a Bernie Madoff scammer. Kyra Sedgewick and Kevin Bacon were two of his victims.
DR Dr Seuss and all, yep yep yep! That's why it's so damned puzzling.

G'night!

Sleep well DR TCB

Back from the four-mile jog. Just heard that a close friend of Doug Haverty and Adryan Russ, and someone I'd met and had really fun conversations with several times (she and her policewoman partner came to one of my Christmas Eve Do things), was killed in a car crash. Fifty years old. Her partner was in the car but escaped with some injuries but nothing life-threatening.
-
I'm sorry, BK.

Great photo, Charles Pogue.

Just back from celebrating a friend's 85th birthday. She did it in style. Fried chicken, mashed potatoes and two types of cake afterward for dessert. Not bad for a diabetic.

So sorry, BK

Bruce, my condolences on your sad news.

Has anybody reported that Linda Christian died? In addition to being married to Tyrone Power, she was married to Edmond Purdom, whose name has been bandied about on these pages of late.
-
DR Elmore, did you take your glass to toyland? Did you take it with you when you checked the mail? Is it in the dishwasher or the sink? Is it in the refrigerator or oven?
-
I don't know, Jane. The Desert Botanical Garden also had an overwintering spot -- but they tore it out this year. We'll have to wait and see what happens.

Well, the last two growly kittens are doing better today. I will take them tomorrow.

Although I could easily keep Sunshine.

Well, Purrcy is still growling. I guess he stays another day.

Sad story from MR BK.
DR LAURA do they have Kitty Dentures.....or will Joshie have mush for the next however many years.
Lovely story about Rob from DR GINNY.....
-
I may be able to watch some of Downton Abbey tonight since it has been getting such good press here on HHW.
DR ELMORE your glass is on the floor beside a chair.
-
No kitty dentures. He will either gum dry food or he will get canned food (which would be his choice).

(I bet Elmore is checking all the chairs.)

I was just reading facebook about a certain family member...I will bite my tongue, I will bite my tongue, I will bite my tongue
-
Ouch! My tongue hurts

LOL, Cillaliz. Maybe you'd better hide said family member's posts for a while.

No, it's too much fun to see who comments on them....as long as I can keep myself from doing it
-
Apparently she's very happy, so I should be pleased. I guess.
-
DR Elmore....did you check beside the chairs?
-
Ok, JRand where is my new watch that went missing about two months ago?
-
Night, all.
And check beside the chairs, Elmore.

By the way, Elmore was a big help with my final paper on Cole Porter and with his assistance, I made my argument that Porter was indeed a perfect subject for a paper on Modernism and the Jazz Age. Thanks again, my friend.

Finished with my viewing for the evening. Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com? We need us a frenzy or three.
-
DR Laura, I took your advice and hid posts for awhile.
-
I had a good day at work
-
Boo was attacking Ricky and Callie tonight....I finally realized she wanted canned food, so I gave it to her. She's been quietly sitting in the window ever since.

This is my world
-
Work was nice today. After a restful weekend I felt much better and I cleaned off my desk then got to work.
-
That is my other world
-
I'm going to the lake for a day this weekend. I am giving my mom the dishes I got when I got married. I didn't pick out the pattern, she did, lol. (long story, I was ok with it at the time) Anyway, the pattern doesn't go with anything I have and she's interested in it, so I'll take all the boxes I have of the china to her over the weekend. I'll be glad to get rid of it
-
Also. DGN Gabe and family will be there so I can see that little cutie pie
-
Now I must sleep. Nothing stressful tomorrow, but I have a lot I want to get done and am also going to be working on my marketing
-
;D

My day at work was good also. :)

So sorry bk. :'(

I'm pink. Thought I would lay in the sun naked on Saturday. Only 1/2 hour each side. My skin was a little to white I think, now it's just pink.
Stupid stupid :-\

Time for sleep.
Mega vibes for the week ahead.
Hugs and :-* :-*

Good Evening!
