Good evening/Good morning!
-Now let's see if I get all of this in before the new notes go up...
Topic #1 - Closing night of CAMELOT
What a wonderful night. Lots of happy vibes all around. Some teariness, but mainly smiles and long hugs. And LOTS of picture taking(!!) - myself included.
The conductor and I went out to dinner between shows - he paid this time. -We take turns paying, regardless of whether we end up at some place pricey or cheap - it all evens out in the long run. Well, we went to a place on Capitol Hill called "Thai Roma". Very interesting place. Very, very interesting.
As the name implies, it's part Thai and part Italian (Roma) - well, at least it used to be. Now it's mainly Thai with a few Italian "accents" here and there. And the decor is kind of like an English/Irish/New England pub/racing club/boathouse something or other. Just lots of stuff all over the place. However...
The food was very good, and the servings were very generous. It's right by where I'm rehearsing my new show, and I'll definitely add it to my list of possible lunch and dinner spots. -And the waitress was very emphatic about my first choice for a soup, "No!" - she just started waving her finger and pointing out the first two choices. I learned a long time, trust the waitress! Especially one who looks like she's been around for a while.
But back to closing night...
It was a good show. Some interesting "things" on stage, but even I was a little "scattered" in the pit. But a very good show, and during the curtain calls, a lot of the cast was trying to hold back the tears - as was I as I conducted the curtain calls for the final time. -And, boy, was that last sequence of Good-byes between Arthur, Lancelot and Guenevere very emotionally charged!
At the pizza party afterwards, we all took more pictures... And then came the great unveiling! All the men in the cast - well, almost all of them - came in with brand new, clean shaven faces! After three months of being moustachioed and bearded.... Some of the "transformations" were amazing! Simply amazing! I took "before" pics before tonight's show, and made sure to take the "after" pics during the party. Once I get them all montaged, and down to a friendlier bandwidth size, I'll do my best to post some of them on here!
I made sure to get an individual pic of everyone, and I got some nice good-byes in myself.
Yes, a show closing is a sad time. But this was a good sad. We had a good run. And now we all move onto other projects and adventures. And, most importantly, we get to home - even if it just for a few days.
The most touching "goodbye" of the evening was when I was heading out to my car. The dance captain's very cute and smart five-year old son was crying - he didn't want to leave the party, he didn't want to leave all his friends. We all reassured him that we'll see him again. And soon. And we will.
