DR Ginny, hope you hand heals quickly.

Thanks, DR Cillaliz - it's much better than this time last night.  The bling helps a lot!

KevinH, I am assuming you missed the fine print which requires you to lie prostrate with your head bowed if/when you meet Babs.  ;)

Rehearsal was most excellent this evening even with many people missing....some excused and some.....well just not showing up.....

I finished the lobby display case for Cheaper By the Dozen, and gave my cousin her music CD's for the show......and I have only one more rehearsal....and then we will be off for a week while the other cast TAKES over the rehearsal center and theatre!

Tonight I stained the north side of the garage.   We may have rain tonight, but I decided to chance it.  There is a chance of rain almost every night for the next 10 days.  SO, either I risk it or I'll never get my staining and painting done.   I finished at 8:15.  I figure it's already been 2 hours and if we can go another couple hours without rain, I should be good to go

DR JRand - I survived my time in the Oklahoma! territory today. I got some good prep work done this morning, and the rehearsal went well, as did tonight's dress-tech run-thru.

*And my conductor treated me to dinner tonight, so I didn't starve. ;)

And speaking of Oklahoma!...

Since I was - and am - still feeling a little "unsettled" about The Show, I asked if my first time on the podium could be pushed back a few days. I could go on right now, if needed, but this remount is still being tweaked in a couple of respects. The big one is the cast. Yes, most of the original cast has returned for this run, but we have three new cast members, but, alas, due to an injury sustained during rehearsals last week, an actor decided to leave the production yesterday in order to give his body time to heal properly. So, this week, our one and only male swing is going on (and we will be holding auditions after we open for a new male ensemble member after we open). Additionally, due to another injury, one of the female ensemble members is also out this week, so... The cast is working together beautifully, but with some of those "changes", I think the last thing the cast could use during our weekend of previews is a new face and presence on the podium. If things settle a bit more over this weekend, I may go on on Tuesday or Wednesday, but I think I'm aiming for a performance shortly after we open.

And that's that.

Here's a question for you savvy musicologists:  why do you think Hammerstein chose the word cowman instead of the more commonly used cowboy for The Farmer and the Cowman?  I don't recall the script--are the ranchers generally referred to as cowmen during the show?  Or were they cattlemen and cowman was a good two-syllable term?  Was cowmen chosen to form an alliteration on the m with farmer?  Does anyone but me really care about this?

Hmmm... Good question.

I'll check our production's study guide to see if it answers your question.

*Although, I seem to recall that a "cowman" was more of a hired hand, and a cowboy was more of a loner.
