Post by: bk on July 01, 2022, 12:38:38 AM
Well, you've read the notes, the notes said a hearty hello to July, and now it is time for you to post until the hearty cows come home.

Today we close on the house - and so the BIGGEST thing left to do will be done.

The rest is legal business and tax stuff.....and then we can close the estate and MOVE ON!

Last night's rehearsal was hampered by low attendance and many, many questions.....MANY....

So....although we finished the three numbers, when everyone is present, there will be improvements made.   OH YES, improvements will be made.

My cousin has arranged that the closing will be in our town instead of 30 miles away, so that is good.

The closing costs on our end are a bit over $23,000 - which is a bummer - but there you are.

I do vaguely remember one being discussed at some point in my record collecting days, but I forget whether I ever acquired it or heard it.

It's so hard to believe we're in July now, AND starting the second of the three summer holidays.

And Monday... what a hideous day for the Fourth to land on. I feel sorry for those who go out for a big celebration that evening and have to return to real life the very next day. It can't always be avoided, but I find that planning the middle day of a three-day weekend as the "big" one, and laying back and enjoying third day in a fun but relaxing way, far more preferable.

I had an ugly night of sleep, culminating in a fairly complex dream that combined a school reunion (which, bizarrely, seemed to be the music institute) with the ballroom of the Queen Mary having been converted into the official dress shop for prom-like gowns and such, my series of failing attempts to create folders and save files on my cell phone, and other absolute rubbish.

It was the kind of dream you say good riddance to, thank god I'm awake, etc., but which you can't stop trying to recall so that nothing escapes. Go figure.

Further on the dream:  I can say that every element could be traced, even if indirectly, to some thing or some thought in my waking life over the past few days. It's mindboggling, though, how the brain puts stuff together.

BK -- I'm still amazed at what you found re your dad just in newspapers.

I have an Ancestry.com membership that I don't use as often as I should. If you'd like me to search for any documents that might be there, just say the word. If not, I'll leave it alone.

Typically, it's birth/marriage/death records, military, census data, sometimes a yearbook or city directory listing, maybe a photo published somewhere, or another newspaper pointer. At least you have a good distinctive family name to search on (as opposed to mine which is a nightmare to research).

Someone on the Disney group where I posted that original Retta Scott painting, just called it racist and said I had nerve, I guess, posting it on public message board. Someone before him and tried to do that coyly and I responded the art is of its time, it's based on a book published in the 1800s and that I wasn't someone who wanted to erase Song of the South. With this guy, I just said well, let's just torch it, remove it, light it on fire, burn all art, literature, and history that makes you uncomfortable. Of course, the guy doing this is - white.

What a day!

I got up this morning determined to go to Sam's Cllub and replenish some supplies.

I went to the post office and, for the first time in a week, had nothing!  Then I bought some gas at $4.44/gallon.

Then I drove to Aiken.  Sam's Club opens at 10 a.m.  I got there at 10:50 a.m.  The place was a madhouse.  So many people.  I immediately sussed that today was a payday and that this is when most people do their shopping.

Nevertheless, I got my shopping done and was on the road and back home by 12:15 p.m.

From there, it was time for a light lunch (salad) and a nap, which went on longer than I expected.

Dinner was also a salad...a different kind and with chicken.  Lunch was an Italian-style Caprese Salad.  Dinner was a southwestern salad.

It's what I wanted, so it's what I ate.

I have no idea what tomorrow may bring, but I survived this First Day of July.

Listening to music, specifically Mr. Arthur Honegger  as conducted by Herman Scherchen in monophonic sound. Wonderful performances.

My cousin has arranged that the closing will be in our town instead of 30 miles away, so that is good.

The closing costs on our end are a bit over $23,000 - which is a bummer - but there you are.

Let me see if I understand this….. someone is buying the house you are selling, but you have to come up with $23,000 for closing costs?  I guess I can never sell my condo.  I couldn’t afford it.

Friday morning greetings!  Just checking in to let you know that we’re grandparenting this week and probably next.  Fun, but exhausting.

  Happy Grandparenting!

A friend of mine posted an inspirational quote about "the peace of God that is inside each of us."

Only my befuddled mind read "the piece of cod."

Actually, they both sound good.

Enjoying my last Friday evening at home for a couple of weeks.  CLUE opens on Thursday - so there you are.

I can tell you that at last night's rehearsal the Putnam County Playhouse solution to CLUE would have been:

Jack in the Rehearsal Center with the revolver......

You mean Miss Piggy is still acting out?

I am anticipating some troubled sleep ahead for the next few nights as every nitwit comes out of the woodwork to blow up their money in the sky at indecent hours.

Bah, humbug.

I don't like it, either, and we have a lot of it here. Do you have earplugs? Sleep and silence vibes.

Add me to the group.
