Well, you've read the notes, the notes were filled with sunshine and not wane, and now it is time for you to post until the waning cows come home.

"Albatross" is a beautiful instrumental piece by Fleetwood Mac. (1969). I think the USA missed out on it!Perhaps only Ancient Mariners remember it.

No-one is alone George.

I wonder if DR Jane's son Brian ever makes the mistake.

At my last School, The Principal's name was Brian.
For his 50th Birthday the Office Staff has "Brain" written (on purpose) on the cake.

Morning all.  I LOVE all of the pictures and can only say, "MORE, PLEASE!"  Nice photo of BK and his daughter. :)

Great reviews for the show.  I wish I could be there.

I hate to say it but I think I might be gearing up for round 2 of this cold/flu.  I'm coughing just as hard as I did two weeks ago, I lost my cookies yesterday  and I just  do not feel good.  I'm calling the doctor today.

I like the new picture, DR Tomovoz.  And I have to say thank you for the very thoughtful christmas gift. I feel bad that I haven't even gotten to my Christmas cards and I hate to say it but if this is round 2 of the flu or what ever it is, I don't think I will.

I'm so tired it's taking everything I have to just make it to work and home.  I haven't decorated the house and there's no way I 'm getting on a  ladder to string lights outside.  Folks will just have to think I'm a hum bug this year.

Good morning, all!  Those photos from the parties and gatherings last weekend make me want to hop a plane and haul ass back to LA for the last weekend (sob!) of The Brain!!!

DR MBarnum, I cannot tell you enough how much I appreciated your chauffering me about the city, and I miss you, too.  I wish you'd plan your next East Coast trip to I can start planning mean things to do to you, like putting holes in your air mattress and forcing you to sleep on the fire escape again.

DRs Adriana Patti and Cason, please tell everyone backstage, in the cast, and in the band how much I miss them and the wonderful show!

This morning, I need a trek to Toyland to accept a Fed Ex package from the California office and a trip to NYPL Music Division to look at the New Mozart Edition.  I may stop at the Juilliard Bookstore and see if they have any fuil scores of the Mozart operas in the New Mozart Editiom.  After that, the laundry I stupidly left in the hamper when I did all the clothing I took to LA, and then I may tidy up a bit.

And, in honor of the late great Barnard Hughes, a photo!

Wednesday morning greetings!  Today is the last of my five-in-a-row off and I am not ready to go back to work tomorrow.  Ah, well.

It was delightful to review last night's posts and find all those wonderful photos and several continued birthday wishes.  Thank you, DRs Vixmom, TCB, and JRand (congrats on the new computer!)

Speaking of birthdays, today is the actual 90th birthday of my mother-in-law.  Remember, we had the parties in August and September?  Tonight, we will just take her out for dinner (she chose Bob Evans) and maybe for a drive to see Christmas lights.  She also requested a copy of the

Figure Skating TV Schedule (http://heatherw.com/mk/sch.htm)

which I just printed for her, for my mother, and for myself.

And the word of the day is: ALBATROSS!
Casey would waltz
With a strawberry blonde
In a mating dance not unlike that of the ALBATROSS,
A breed of bird that mates for life,
And who lays but one egg per year,
A fate that would befall the strawberry blonde,
Not Casey, of course.

Good morning!

It rained during the night, but the sun has been desperately trying to peek through the clouds all morning. It was successful about a half an hour ago, but at present, the clouds are winning the war.

But it's not cold at all. Almost 50 outside at 10:30 in the morning.

The only thing left on my DVR from the last week is last Thursday's one hour MY NAME IS EARL. I should be able to get to that bat some point today.

But the #1 priority is Vol. 2 of the True-Life Adventure tin, the one which contains my favorite one THE LIVING DESERT and also THE VANISHING PRAIRIE among shorter pieces. I will be very curious to see what kind of video clean-up has been done on these since I've had VHS tapes of the features for years and am very familiar with how they looked on those.

An interview with Roy Disney at DVD Talk suggested that Disney did do extensive work on them to make them look as good as they could, allowing for the fact that the original photography was in 16 mm and they're never going to look like high definition video.

I may or may not get to THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA today. Would like to, but I'll see how time works out.

Yesterday was such fun at work!

Yes indeedy!

I was originally scheduled to be at work from noon til six, but when I arrived one of the floor managers came over for a chat.  She had tried to call me, but since I was on the net all she could do was leave a message, which I had missed since I had not checked messages.

The gist of what she wanted was for me to shift hours, instead to come in at two-thirty and stay until closing at eleven.  Well, I live close enough to work that it's a ten minute walk, so I suggested that I come back at the later time.  She was thrilled.

It's nice to be able to do that sort of thing.

Why are you taking your own sheets?

Don't they have them in the South?

Or are your sheets made of some special material?

Satin?

Silk?

Latex???

This morning I looked outside on my porch, and I saw this butterfly -- I don't know if it is laying eggs or if it is an  adult drying its wings after emerging from a chrysalis. I hope it is not laying eggs, because the caterpillars ate EVERY leaf on all three vines I just planted.

Anyway...

I get back home, and there's der Brucer coming out the door, with Bonnie on a leash and Buster breaking through between his legs at a grand run.  Der B had listened to the phone message, and thought he'd bring Bonnie along to pick me up.  (He figured I'd take the shift shift.)  His idea was that we could take Bonnie downtown with us while visiting the post office.  He hadn't planned on Buster insisting on coming, as well.

It turns out, the easiest way to catch Buster is to open the car door.  So obviously he was coming, too.  As was Marty, who hasn't had a special ride for quite some time.

The five of us loaded ourselves into the car, and headed for the post office.  Der B planted himself on a bench outside, while I got to wait in line in order to get a few boxes for shipping some items.  Compared to what I've heard from customers about the post office lines, I got through very quickly.

Then we five wandered around downtown a little.  It was a nice, sunny day, and I didn't need my jacket.  Bonnie, Buster and Marty made a few new friends, and played their usual game of "Let's tie up our humans with our leashes."  Hilarity ensued.

Hungry little buggers, those caterpillars.

But quite the lovely butterfly!

Anyway... again...

The work day went quite well.  We were busy enough for a Tuesday, and working til closing is always interesting.

One fellow came in, asking another of the cashiers if we had something called a buff pull.  Big Mike didn't know if we had such a thing, and called around asking if any of the rest of us knew what a buff puff was.

I replied that I always thought a buff puff was a gay bodybuilder.

Much laughter.

By closing, it was just Jen managing the floor, and myself at the lone register.  There are always those last minute people who don't think the announcement that the store will be closing in five minutes has anything to do with them, of course, but we were able to get them out and lock the door pretty quickly.

Der Brucer was waiting for me.  He still hadn't eaten!

I fixed myself some scrambled eggs, and he made a sandwich.  And we watched Two and a Half Men, in which hilarity ensued.

I don't go in to work until five this evening, and that's for a very short evening, out by nine.  But der B and I have shopping to do before then.

The dogs can stay at home this time!

If any of you are watching Sci-Fi Channel's "The Lost Room", I hope you are enjoyng it as much as I.

It's extremely well-made, challenging yet easy enough to follow, and not at all "apparent" re: where it's all going.  At least, not to me.

Part 2 aired last night, and will re-air in the 7-9 p.m. slot this evening prior to the final episode which airs 9-11 p.m., and again from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

If you love Brasilian music (and if you don't, you should), buy this CD department:  I just had the good fortune to play a private party with an extremely gifted guitarist (with credits up the yin-yang--technical term) who laid his CDs on me as we left.  I highly, highly recommend going to his site:

http://bossanouveau.com

and purchasing "You're Not the Bossa Me!" (great title, eh?).  Absolutely beautiful stuff, with incredible playing and some killer arrangements.  The guy is also recovering from Stage 4 cancer, so I know any orders will be very appreciated.  This has my highest recommendation.

Much thanks for the travel vibes, everyone.

My washing is done.  My sheets, DR S. Woody, were washed and the bed re-made for my return...clean sheets after a long flight are much appreciated by me.

My shuttle is booked...a 7:15 p.m. pickup for a delivery at airport by 8:30 p.m., three hours before my 11:40 p.m. flight.

Sigh.

I've been following the TSA rules to the letter about how to pack, what to pack, etc.

And now it is a waiting game.  I have just under 7 hours to preoccupy myself with amusements.

As I said this morning, I chose Volume 2 of the True-Life Adventures to begin with since it contained two of my favorites. I couldn't wait to see what they would look like on upconverted DVD.

THE LIVING DESERT looked simply amazing. Almost all of the dirt and scratches have been digitally removed, and the Technicolor timed to look almost brand new. I couldn't have been more astonished at the quality of this 53 year old film.

THE VANISHING PRAIRIE came next. It has always been the most problematic of the feature-length True-Life Adventures photographically speaking, at least on the VHS tape I've been watching for about 15 years.

The color is much improved, but at least 30% of it is still either soft or totally out of focus. This has to have been part of the original photography with nothing that could be done to remedy it. Still, what's sharp is very nice, and all of the color is a thousand percent better than it was on the tape. A clear step-up from what I had before.

Next, I watched the last episodes on disc 3 of the BONES set. This one had to do with skeletal remains found at the bottom of a 200 foot shaft sunk of the coast of DC. The bones seemed to be pirate bones which had everyone terrifically excited that they might be on the verge of a discovery of treasure. Fine episode but the killer became obvious pretty quickly.

I finished the afternoon watching the HBO First Look: DREAMGIRLS. Snippets from the movie were shown, but most of it was cast and crew talking about how marvelous each person is, so it's pretty much a puff piece. Still, my appetite is definitely whetted to see the finished film. I liked what I saw and heard with the brief excerpts.

When I was working for a school supply company many years ago, I got a phone call from a teacher who told me she had purchased a butterfly garden from us.

They were about to go on their Christmas vacation and she was afraid the eggs would hatch while they were gone.  She wanted to know if she put it in the FREEZER and took them out when they came back from the Holiday, would they hatch.

Duh.

I've already decided on my New Year's Resolution. I'm going to go through my closets, donate all the clothes I don't wear (for whatever reason) to charity and put together a nice but much smaller wardrobe with what I have and by buying a few choice items.

My office has a casual everyday policy and I've decided I'm really not in favor of it because I seem to be getting lazier and lazier about what I wear when I'm not in Court.  I don't think that's a good thing. So my resolution is to change my wardrobe to still fit my personality but be a lot sharper.

"Here's one thing I learned in the movies!"

LOL

Earlier today I watched THE PRIVATE WAR OF MAJOR BENSON, written about by MR BK some weeks ago.  I particularly liked the moment when Major Benson (Charlton Heston) is being escorted through the military school in Santa Barbara (!) by the Mother Superior.

She stops and points out the painting of the founder of the school.

"He was canonized in 1843," she says solemnly.

Major Benson stops a moment and replies:  "Oh.  Too bad."

I watched SEAL ISLAND when I went back downstairs. It looks very, very good, and it was such a pleasure to see it after all these years. True to the spirit of the other films in the series, the writers manage to make little "human" interest stories out of this nature footage. Really quite remarkable that they can do this so consistently and so well.

I had about thirty minutes before the start of prime time TV, so I watched another TWILIGHT ZONE episode. This one was from the second season, and was one of the six videotaped episodes from that season (done to save a little money).

It was "The Lateness of the Hour" with Inger Stevens and John Hoyt. I don't believe I had ever seen it before, and while it was OK, I guessed the "shock" ending before it actually arrived.

BONES had an early Christmas present for Temperence with some communication with her father as she investigated the murder of a former hit man.

I especially enjoyed lab rat Zach defending his doctorial dissertation in front of a panel, one of whom was Kathy Reichs on whom the series is based. Very nice in-joke. And I loved the ending.

Ryan O'Neal was the principal guest star as a priest who conveys the messages from her father to Temperence.

DAY BREAK continued its serpentine path to full disclosure of the conspiracy against the manin character Hopper played by Taye Diggs. It seems as if everyone in his life was in some way connected to this conspiracy to frame him for murder.

But, as I said last week, it certainly keeps me watching. The new information he gleens every week is eye-opening and does move the plot along quickly. We make progress every week in solving the mystery.

OH! ANd Mike Barnum thanks for the wonderful pictures.  I wish I could have been there to join in the fun.

I think one of the reasons that you meet so many nice people is because you are such a very nice person yourself!

Actually, in that great new avatar, Rodzinski looks like he himself would qualify for his Playbill predecessor's version of the "Leading Man" column.  :)

George. As Doug Llwellyn used to say, "You take 'em to court." That property owner owes you for those damages. He can take his cut out of the neigbor's deposit and so forth.

I agree with Rodz!

I am also sorry to hear of Peter Boyle's passing. I rather enjoyed him on "Everybody Loves Raymond".

Back from the show, a bite, and now must write the notes.  BUTT - before I do can someone please tell me why edisaurus has done a disappearing act?  Did I miss something?  If anyone offended her I shall rip that person's heart out - so, someone enlighten me.

I just got an e-mail from the director of Cannibal asking if we want to add an 11:00 p.m. show Saturday evening!  It's all selling out very quickly and that's really the only time that we could add a performance.  They want the opportunity to sell tickets to people who came for the 8pm Saturday performance and couldn't get in!
