I'm back from an all-day rehearsal for THE GOLDEN APPLE.  The exciting thing was that some of the principals showed up this afternoon and I saw some old friends and I met John Cullum, who's such a charming man.

BK, Crista Moore sends regards.  Your ears should be burning.

Today's word:  I think of it every 15 minutes or so when I get an email about Viagra.  I forget about it as soon as I've deleted the message.

Well, I'm off to Seattle for the Seattle Storm women's basketball game with my niece.  I won't be back until late, so...good day to all! ;D

DR Elmore - Oh, is that the kind of swelling "tumescent" refers to?  I was certainly using it wrong before in my haircut posting then.  :)  I'd better edit that post.  Thanks for the head's-up.

BK, I agree...I don't think the customer is always right, sometimes they are just downright obnoxious and unpleasant and who needs their trade.

Favourite Bacharach Songs:

House is Not A Home (like the Brook Benton version)
Tower of Strength (Gene McDaniels)
Liberty Valance (Gene Pitney)
Make It Easy On Yourself (Jerry Butler)
24 Hours From Tulsa (Gene Pitney)

And I'm becoming very fond of Yesterday's Heroes sung by Mr. Guy Haines.

I'll have to do a little research on Goffin/King, although Rodzinski's list was pretty good.

So I'm driving home from a meeting this afternoon.  And my nephew's picture is on a Billboard on Sunset Blvd for Banana Republic.  Here's a tale...he's in New York, meets a fashion photographer who stops him on the street, liked the glasses he was wearing, and asks him to model.  In the year, he's been doing this he's been to Italy and Europe and done major fashion spreads in all the big magazines.  If you knew him, you'd think he would be the last guy to be a model.  He's just an old Kentucky boy with a degree in Engineering.

The customer may not always be right, but is the the person who signs the paycheck always right, though?  When I would complain about my bosses at one of my old jobs, my folks always used to take the attitude that (as long as there was nothing unethical or illegal going on) the boss is always right, as long as the employee wanted to keep the job.

3 favourite Goffin/King songs of mine that may not have been mentioned:

When My Baby Is Smiling At Me (sung by the Drifters)
Every Breath I Take (my favourite Gene Pitney ever!)
Point of No Return (sung delectably by both Gene McDaniels &  Guy Haines)

Goffin and King also wrote "The Porpoise Song," a pretty cool tune from the Monkees' movie HEAD.

Re: SHOW BOAT.

Yes, Lonette McKee played Julie in the Toronto 1993  production and Cleo Laine also played the part in the London 1971 revival!

The lack of knowledge of the work of Carole & Gerry
would suggest that DRs may not know much about the other famous Brill Building writers either.
Cynthia & Barry, Neil & Howie and Jeff & Ellie.

These writers were American pop music of the late fifties/early sixties as were Lieber & Stoller and Pomus & Shuman.

It may not be "cool" but I know there area few DRs who are Neil Diamond fans. His tribute album to the "Songs From The Brill "Building - Up On The Roof" is a good collection of work by those writers listed above.

Bacharach & David also worked in the Brill Building.

Of course the boss isn't always right - frequently it is the opposite.  But, with a boss, you're dealing with the person who has the power.  With the customer, it's one sale lost, and I simply won't put up with obnoxious or uncalled for behavior from anyone.  I don't snap immediately - I've received nasty e-mails or calls and have managed to win the person over instantly by my good nature.  But, if they persist after I've made that attempt, woe to them and whoa to them.

Ended up having lunch with Miss Tammy Minoff, to discuss a few things prior to tomorrow's meeting at the El Portal.  I wasn't planning on eating because of tonight's meal, but I did, and I ate too much and now I'm still full.  Hopefully by six, I won't be so full.

I listened again to the OBC of Funny Girl.... I hadn't done that in a long time... and WOW! that Streisand lady was quite something then. So much power, passion and life in her singing... and boy does she SING all the notes and do we understand every word, which is something I can't say of the soundtrack for the film version!

A good advise: do listen again to FUNNY GIRL the original Broadway recording!
You may not remember how good it is.

Comes second behind GYPSY, imho!

Got the Astaire/Rogers set (had a bunch of credit at Amoeba), also got The Red Tent, which I've never seen (stars Sean Connery and is a big production from the early 70s), and also got a new region 2 DVD of the Peter Cook/Dudley Moore Bedazzled, which happily is widescreen and enhanced - can't wait.  Also got the new DVD of The Killing of Sister George, which, according to the box, is finally enhanced for widescreen TVs.  The original release wasn't, and the region 2, whose box stated that it was, wasn't either.

And of course "Bedazzled" has an appearance by Dame Edna's close friend Barry Humphries.

Francois, I thought Lonette McKee had done it.  And I had entirely forgotten Cleo Laine had also.  Both I can see both of those actresses/singers playing a passing-for-white character in the late 1800's South much more believeably than Lena Horne.

During her first Broadway run in SHOW BOAT, Lonette McKee lived in the apartment next door and would come home from the theater in the wee hours of the morning and vocalize to her heart's content.  Then she would sleep in and kvetch about piano playing at the ungodly hour of noon.

We went to see the later revival of SHOW BOAT and  of course, as luck would have it, when we actually wanted to hear her sing, she was out.

Evening folks!

DR Jason, may I state for the record that I am both shocked and appalled at your work attitude!  You get to have all that FUN AND get PAID for it too!   What more do you want?

The next thing you’ll be saying is that you want 2 days a week off, paid holidays and sick leave!

My boss is always right!  My boss is perfect!  (My mid term performance eval is tomorrow).  I love my job.  I’m excited to be a part of the team.  I live to serve and file paperwork.

Can I [move=right,scroll,6,transparent,100%] please   [/move]stop now?

*whistling as he walks in, as if it hasn't been six months since he last posted*

Favorite Bacharach: A relative obscurity; "You're Following Me," as performed by piano bar diva Elena Bennett on her "Wrinkle in Swingtime" album. Can't really think of a King & Goffin song that makes my all-time favorite list, though...

*whistles his way out of the room again*

Welcome back, DR Elan!  Nice to see a familar face.   :)

Happy Birthday to your Mom, DR Hisaka!  I hope she has a wonderful day!

I guess I should have mentioned how much I enjoyed seeing him (Mickey) in AIDA the first time I went to NY.  I didn't know he was in the show.

At first I kept thinking to myself, "I know that person from somewhere".  Then it hit me who he was and it was like running into an old friend.

Personally, I'm getting very tired of getting e-mails for Viagra or for drugs to make parts of me that I don't have bigger (the newest one being a patch!) and now to make certain things that I can't produce taste better (how sick is THAT?)!
