DR Jennifer, I agree with you about the supporting TV awards for the Globes. It does seem like a hodgepodge of nominees from movies, miniseries, comedy and drama series all lumped together. Occasionally, a TV series person will win; Sandra Oh won the first year of GREY'S ANATOMY's eligibility, and Kim Cattrall won once for SEX & THE CITY, but ordinarily, you're correct, the series actors are at a disadvantage.
I guess because they already have SO many categories separating comedy/musical actors from drama actors in both TV and films, it's just too crowded as it is.
As for the DREAMGIRLS mini-sweep, that's the way it goes some years even at the Oscars. Some years, a lot of movies divide up the spoils. Doesn't mean the movies are less deserving, just that there are films of equal quality vying for the same prizes. (The only other show of any kind of the night that won three was HBO's ELIZABETH I. Nothing else won more than two.)
A few Oscar examples: 1976 - ROCKY won a total of 3 awards including Best Picture; NETWORK and ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN each won four awards.
2004 - MILLION DOLLAR BABY won four awards including Best Picture; THE AVIATOR won five total awards.
2005 - Best Picture winner CRASH won three awards. BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN won three awards. MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA won three awards; KING KONG won three awards.
