Well, you've read the notes, the notes were the same as always (because I do not like change), and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they're not coming home right now because THEY don't like change.
-
And the word of the day is: ZUGZWANG!
-
Topic of the Day:
In my CD player: I just received (a couple of days ago) the new concert version of Chess In Concert and Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman's Road Show. I listened to these yesterday, but I want to listen to them again. I did like Road Show...so far. I want to find my CD to Bounce and listen to them, one after the other and compare. ;)
In my DVD player: the DVD to the new concert version of Chess In Concert and a DVD-R of the movie "Topkapi" that I recorded not too long ago. Can't wait for the official CD!
-
That's terrible about Dolores, BK. You'd think that if someone wants to buy a restaurant that's been around for as long as that one's been, they'd SLOWLY make changes...and nothing as drastic as that.
They never learn. :P
-
And now, to bed.
-
Perhaps if dear reader Jeanne gets online she'll tell you about my reaction.

Laura DR - loved the kitty video! :D And it was an extra bonus that the leopard fainting couch made a supporting appearance. :)
-
Yes very entertaining video with one kitten deciding to explore somewhat outside the box, so to speak....although the curiosity was quickly satisfied....
-
TOD:
DVD/BluRay - IM WEISSEN ROSSL - Franz Joseph has arrived - and gone - and now we are dealing with a girl who can't say her "s's" ... and the doctor who is loved by the owner of the Inn is now in love with a statuesque blonde.....
-
TODAY: Largest planet Jupiter conjuncts Dreamy Neptune today while both are in retrograde:
Overall, expansion of consciousness is the key to this Jupiter-Neptune conjunction. Golden opportunities are available in most areas of life, work and relationships, but the shadow side of this connection can bring into manifestation illusions, deceptions, chaos and confusion.

Greetings. Another busy day at the office and then I'm off to Long Island again for the weekend.
-
DR JOSE - I think I just figured out how to make my own Golden Helmet of Mambrino....duh! Only had to think about it awhile before I spent $79.
-
And now I am off to work....oh well.
-
Friday morning greetings! We'll be leaving in about an hour for Chicago.
Media report - CD(car) - audiobook: Jan Karon's These High Green Hills, 3rd in the Mitford series. Richard is learning about being a parish priest from Father Tim. In fact, now when an issue comes up in Lima, we say "WWFTD?"*

I am glad you enjoyed the video. It is Elmore who is trying to get out of the box.
The story of my life! I suspect he knows that New York is somewhere east of Phoenix, but it will take him several years before he gets there.
Good morning, all! Today I am back to the McGlinnventory, and I'll begin my 45-minute trek around 9 am. Now that Liz's work is completed I'm back to usual jobs at home: Loesser, Moross, and the ongoing angst at the office.

I've been watching the first season of IN TREATMENT, which I'll probably continue over the weekend.
I'm also expecting Season 7 of MONK today, so that will be fun.

DR JOSE ASKED YESTERDAY
If you are a CBS Soap Opera Fan, you would know that since Amber's character actually started on "The Bold and the Beautiful", and she's made some "guest apperances" back "B&B" over the years. -Much like Sheila (who I keep expecting to come back someday) and Lauren.
*Do any of the other networks have any characters that crossover from show to show?
When Another World was cancelled by NBC several of the characters from that show moved over to As The World Turns on CBS for a a short time. (I guess shoehorning characters from one series to another didn't work.
Also after Another World was cancelled Linda Dano went to All My Children. I think she played a character that first appeared on One Life To Live
Then that character appeared on all the other ABC Soaps, One Life To Live, General Hospital and the spin off from General Hospital. (Don't remember the name of it)
-
Good morning!
We actually had over an inch and a half of rain yesterday, so things are starting to look a bit green again after turning brown for much of the last month with no rain. Back up into the high 80s today.
-
I still haven't decided if I'm going to go ahead and watch REPULSION or Blu-ray today or not. I know I'm due to get THE TOWERING INFERNO on Blu-ray at some point in the next week (it comes out Tuesday), but I've enjoyed my week off very much. We'll see how I feel later today. I might just take the afternoon off and do the disc tonight. It's not a long movie, and I've watched all of the bonus features already.

Just read a few reports about the line for Shakespeare in the Park this morning.
-Longest line in history.
-If you weren't in line by 4:30am(!!!), you probably won't get tickets.

Opening night....it's opening night....it's Max Bialystock's latest----oh, wait, I'm in MD recurrent song in head hell. :) But it is indeed opening night tonight after literally months of pre-production (easily the longest pre I've ever been involved in--I was hired last October and had most of the pit band put together by December). I will just say the show is HUGE, and is getting huger--last night they finally added the last element, a gigantic louvred mylar screen that folds down from the flies at the end of Springtime for Hitler. Oregon Art Beat came and filmed our last invited dress (which went better than the first, all told--tolled?), so there may ultimately be film at 11.
-
bk, wasn't the soundtrack to UP THE DOWN STAIRCASE on United Artists? Would that be a possibility for a future release?
Well we know MattH skips my posts. :)
I've brought this up several times. BK has said it's a non-starter, more or less.
-
I would love to do Up The Down Staircase but they can't find the paperwork on it, and hence can't license it. Very frustrating.

The Hisaishi title is Joe Hisaishi In Budokan - Miyazaki Anime To Tomo Ni Ayunda 25 Nenkan. The DVD is actually region 2, but the Blu-Ray is region-free.

From Jose:
DR Jane - Not to sound too alarmist, but a friend of mine recently had a similar "bruise" on his foot. He let it go for a while thinking it would heal, but finally went in to see a doctor when he could no longer fit his foot into his shoes. It turned out that he had blod clot. If Keith is feeling even just a tad of numbness or tingling, he really should get it checked out ASAP.
Thank you for the suggestion, that is very scary.
The swelling continues to go down & the bruise already looks better today. Thankfully he isn't experiencing any numbness or tingling. I just went over all the symptoms with him again. The guy is a quick healing.

Btw, what was up with nigel admitting that they find out B3 that morning and already decide who is leaving???

Aren't there some Tim Hortons already in the US?
Here the chain is pretty big, with locations on many corners. Where i live they have a bunch of them (drive thrus) attached to gas stations.
Plus there are another 3 within 2 miles of each other.

BDT actually managed to hit one out of every approximately 17 notes correctly last night. Be still, my palpitating heart. :)
BDT and my drummer (who used to be my bossa nova drummer--emphasis on "used to be") both argued with me when I told them they were missing cues. You know, in my day, when I was the pit keyboardist, or in any orchestra, symphony, jazz, or otherwise, that I've played with, I would have NEVER questioned the conductor, even if I thought he/she were wrong. It just astounds me. (Not to mention--I was right. ;) ).

Hello, everyone.
Yes, it's the very E&T dear reader Jeanne here.
As some of you know, I've been dealing with some rather serious medical problems lately, which have caused me to be sick a lot. I've also been wi-fi-less recently. I had a wireless router installed, but all has not been smooth. This morning I could read the posts, but couldn't log in. It's a puzzlement.
-
And since I do recognize subtle pressure I will respond to BK's challenge. As Jane suggested, it was pretty much the standard BK annoyance routine. Bruce repeated his favorite curse words, said how stupid it was for Delores' to change the menu that had been successful for so many years, snarled a few times, showing his teeth, then said to the waitress, "I DO NOT LIKE CHANGE!" She was actually quite patient and tried to be accommodating.
-
Oh, and he also kept adjusting his eye patch.
-
And, Bruce neglected to tell you all what I ate! HOW COULD HE FORGET?? I had the BK-loathed veggie burger. Not the world's greatest veggie burger, but passable.

I watched last night's ROYAL PAINS while I ate lunch. One of the best episodes yet. I LOVED it mainly because Evan wasn't constantly letting his hormones run away with him and chasing every girl in sight. We saw FINALLY another side of Evan, and it was GREAT.
The cases for Hank were wonderful, too. Very engrossing hour.
-
Next, I watched THE MENTALIST rerun from last night. That episode probably ended up my favorite episode of the season. The one about gambling in Vegas. Jane got to use his powers of observation throughout the entire show, and those episodes are always my favorites. Some excellent guest stars, too, including Gregg Henry and Andrea Parker.
-
Next I skimmed through today's THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS. Adam was in it, but looking like he's found another person to snare for his schemes. No Phillip or Rafe.
-
Next I watched two episodes of VERONICA MARS.
The first had Veronica helping Wallace's girl friend who had been scammed by some computer nerds who were cheating folks out of money so they could develop a killer video game.
-
The second one, the real shocker of the two I watched, had the end of Veronica's and Keith's relationships. Veronica's was truly a surprise, and what a shame to lose Aaron Ashmore since he seemed to fit into her world so well. But what a surprise ending! Wow! Great episode of a sadly undervalued series.
-
Page Four Dance!!!
-
Then I skimmed through today's ONE LIFE TO LIVE. Fish and Kyle were both on with Fish being cruised on his date with (ugh) Layla by the waiter, and Kyle dropping some hints to Christian that Kyle was using Layla.
-
I think it's likely that I will go ahead and watch REPULSION on Blu-ray tonight to get my last review disc (for now) out of the way.
I got nothing in the mail today, so that will leave the weekend completely free from work projects.
And since the movie isn't all that long, I should still have time to watch something for fun tonight, too.

I think his last job was playing that Roman production of CANDIDE I was watching last week.
In GUYS AND DOLLS we had a trumpet player that was either fantastic or horrible (never in-between). I ventured the opinion that he was drunk or stoned half the time, which we (the Save A Soulers) decided accounted for the the fantastic performances. Unfortunately, over half the performances (including the one we filmed) he was sober.
-
DRs Jennifer and MichaelS - There's news on some of the foodie blogs that Tim Hortons Coffee and Donuts will be coming to NYC sometime over the next couple of weeks. Any thoughts?
Not really.
But there is an urban legend on how the Tim Horton's version of Dunkin Mumchkins were named
Tim Horton (was a great hockey player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, but this has nothing to with the urban legend) he was killed in a road accident on the 401 aka The Trans Canada Highway. He was spread out all over the road.
The new donuts were called Tim Bits
-

On a sadder note, I've been on the phone with my friend Buce, who's currently going through his mother's pre-death trauma. We were discussing that period of limbo in which you essentially wait for the Big Phone Call.

As weird as this may sound, I'm actually happy both my parents died suddenly. Although I "knew" right away my Mom was dead when her phone was busy all one night--it was the night Gabe actually "really" started walking and we were trying to call to tell her. This was back in the days of dialup and I tried for hours to reach my sister, who had the neighbor's phone number in SLC, but my sister was online. We got "the call" the next morning--the neighbor had seen two days of papers out on the driveway and knew something was off. My mom must have been trying to call 911 when she died--they found her on the floor with the phone off the hook.

I seem to remember when I lived in Phx and the temp was 122 or 123, that they fried eggs on a manhole cover
-
It is hot in Phoenix.
But it's a dry heat. ;)
-
George, will I be safe buying tickets at the door on Sunday?
You should be...but just in case, I think I can have them hold a ticket for you. I can find out tonight.
-
I survived Vacation Bible School.
Score one for Lucifer!

Well, if you aren't sure, I will just go ahead and order them online. I need two, and it is better safe than sorry.
Will Josh be at the theater on Sunday?

Have I mentioned how cute the baby & Corgi are ;)
So which do you want - another baby or a Corgi?

I know a lot of people who have said that they're coming to the matinee because it's a matinee, so getting them on-line will guarantee that you will get seats. It's probably best to do that.
Otherwise, Josh will be there, but not for our show. Capital Playhouse's "Kids At Play (http://www.capitalplayhouse.com/programs/kap09season.html)" is doing Disney's Beauty and the Beast at the same time (we're in the black box, they're on the main stage). He's playing Maurice. If you want to stick around and actually see him in that show, they have a performance Sunday night...we don't. B&TB is also a shorter show than ours, so you might not even see him in between his shows. I have to help strike our set and we may have a final cast party after that that I don't want to miss, so I won't be able to see B&TB.

Which is why the fear of Fire and Brimstone doesn't scare the kids at VBS.

I watched the blu-ray of THE ROBE and was duly impressed with its transfer.
I watched the dvd of CAPRICE and was entertained by the movie.
I believe I shall watch the blu-ray of QUA VADIS tonight, courtesy of Netflix.

Friday evening greetings from beautiful downtown Chicago! Our drive here took us about 2 hours longer than it should have, due to a huge traffic back-up on I-65. We finally got off and took back roads to the off-site parking place at Midway Airport. We left the car there and got a taxi into The Loop from the airport. Walked to the Hilton to pick up my registration packet and we're now waiting in our room for a pizza delivery.

The rumored set list for Steisand's forthcoming "jazz" album:
1. Some Other Time
2. Make Someone Happy
3. Here's to Life
4. In the Wee Small Hours of the Morning
5. Love Dance
6. Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most
7. Where Do You Start?
8. If You Go Away
9. Smoke Gets in Your Eyes
-
Well, it's theater time! Our last Friday performance! Yah and Hoo and Hoo and Ray!! ;)
There's going to be a party after tonight's show, and since I don't have to work tomorrow (although, I could...if I wanted...to make up some time...but I'm not going to), I'm going to party tonight!
Be back later...much later! ;D

the last time I tuned into the SciFi/SyFy channel, it seemed more like the Playboy channel.
??? What were you watching!

And, Bruce neglected to tell you all what I ate! HOW COULD HE FORGET?? I had the BK-loathed veggie burger. Not the world's greatest veggie burger, but passable.
I can call that veggie burger anecdote and raise you. :)
Huh? OK, I'm game.
Maybe you hadn't yet joined our Merrie Little Troupe when BK ventured north to PDX and we had a Boca Burger barbecue chez moi. ;)
I would love to have been there, especially since I'm sure I agree somewhat with Bruce's opinion of those.
Darling Jane, I think you were indeed there--we ate out on the deck, remember?
I was not there at the same time as Bruce. I have eaten on your deck, and I have been there when you served Boca Burgers. I believe I had a Leanies instead. That reminds me, I need to request the market special order some for me.

A Flashing Weatherbug is giving me this URGENT weather news:
It is hot in Phoenix.
;D

Have I mentioned how cute the baby & Corgi are ;)

Funny, I want a grand baby. If only Craig could find a job I'm pretty sure they would be very willing to give me one.
-
DR elmore, vibes for your friend during this difficult time.
DR JMK, your story about your mother gave me chills. I've had similar experiences, just not with a parent,

Wouldn't they have more time to devote to that before he finds a job?

LOL-There is no way I'm asking my kid that!

LOL-There is no way I'm asking my kid that!
Well, give me his number and I'll call and ask him!
-
Even better, find him a job in Tacoma.
-
I'm ready to pass out. That is all.

For some reason, we are having trouble accessing our Road Runner email here in Chicago. If you need to reach me, please do so via PM here on HHW or on Facebook.
-
I'm ready to pass out. That is all.
Are you okay, Larry?
-
Even better, find him a job in Tacoma.
Wouldn't that be a long commute for him?
-
Commute, I want him to move to this coast!
-
DR elmore maybe it is time to go to sleep.
-
I posted a few more photos of our trip on Facebook.

Off to watch a movie from NetFlix, not sure which one. Last night we watched FROST/NIXON :)
-
Change of plan, we are going to watch Eureka. :)
'night

I watched the dvd of CAPRICE and was entertained by the movie.
I believe I shall watch the blu-ray of QUA VADIS tonight, courtesy of Netflix.
After the crappy DVD transfer that was all that was available for so long with THE ROBE, the Blu-ray was a revelation. I watched QVO VADIS on Blu-ray the day I got it, and I can't for the life of me remember my impressions of the transfer. I'd have to go put it back in the player and rewatch.
-
And now I have survived the very disorganized Vacation Bible School parents' program.
-
When I went back downstairs, I did go ahead and watch the Blu-ray of REPULSION so I could finish up my last review disc in the stack.
The transfer is everything I thought it would be with a gloriously sharp and detailed black and white transfer. The uncompressesd sound was really nice, too. Had a nice full sound even for mono.
-
After I watched the film and sampled the bonus features to ascertain their modes of delivery (all were in HD, either 1080i or 1080p), I searched and searched for something I felt in the mood to watch.
-
I settled on the Joan Hickson/Miss Marple series A MURDER IS ANNOUNCED. It consists of 3 one hour episodes, and I could only get through the first two and a little of the third one before I needed to come upstairs and get the review for REPULSION worked on.
Good thing, though, because my eyes were getting very heavy.
-
I have left THE FASHION SHOW to watch while I eat lunch tomorrow. Otherwise, in the afternoon, I'll be finishing up with Miss Marple and then likely watching another VERONICA MARS episode.
How lovely to know I will be completely at liberty this weekend to enjoy anything I wish
-
My eyes are really heavy so I think I'll head downstairs and go to bed.
Good night!
-
the last time I tuned into the SciFi/SyFy channel, it seemed more like the Playboy channel.
??? What were you watching!
I have no clue. It was whatever series aired before MYSTERY SCIENCE THEATER 3000 and it was always a lot of sex and very little sci-fi...at least as far as I could tell.
-
Good Evening!
Whoa! I just looked at the clock and didn't realize it was this/that late already. In any case...
-
Jane, if you're talking about the Dolores blurb in the Times - that had to have been written before they changed everything - claw machine is gone now - it's awful and I shall never ever return unless someone tells me they put it back the way it wuz.
-
Back from a perfectly nothing movie called Public Enemies. Typical Michael Mann nothingness - the man has absolutely no filmmaking skills and all the droning Barber-esque (think Adagio for Strings) music tragically blaring (as if we're supposed to CARE about anyone in this film) isn't going to help this soulless director.
-
After getting my errands done this afternoon, I met up with most Errant and Truant/Former DR Jason. It was the first time we had seen each other in person since last year! -Well, since December. He's been busy(!), I've been busy and/or traveling, and we just never were able to coordinate our schedules until today. It was great to see him again, and we had a very nice catch-up session.
We ended up giving a new-ish place a try for a late lunch/early dinner, Schnipper's Quality Kitchen (http://www.schnippers.com/). It's one of the restaurants that occupies part of the ground floor space of the new New York Times Building. Both of us ended up having the same thing, their "Mac & Joe". It was a huge serving of their Sloppy Joe mix topped with a huge serving of their Mac and Cheese. it was HUGE. It was quite tasty, but we both regretted cleaning our plate. Again, it was just a whole lotta food. -And I also had their Salted Caramel Milkshake.
*After I walked with Jason back to the Broadway Theater - he's doing the merchandise thing for Shrek - I ended up walking back down to Times Square to take a seat for a bit. Needless to say, the food coma set in. ::)
-
And LONG. Two and a half hours.
-
And shot on digital video - maybe the worst-looking major film I've ever seen.
-
DR TCB - My friend, Andy, was walking around his neighborhood the other day, and came across this:
Do you know anything about this? He's trying to find more information himself.
-
DR Ginny - Good to hear that you and Richard made it safe and sound - if a little delayed - to Chicago. Now just make sure you don't end up appearing in one of those "Librarians Gone Wild" videos. ;)
-
Funny, I want a grand baby. If only Craig could find a job I'm pretty sure they would be very willing to give me one.
DR Jane - When I first read this, I was trying to figure out what you meant. "Why would Jane want a "grand baby"? -As in, "It was grand knowing you," or "We'll have a grand ole time." ;)
-
Back from our opening--decided not to go to the party, just too tired. Went extremely well. One slight mishap with the truck that carts in half of the Whitehall and Marx set--the stage left side got caught on a traveler and so the firm was Whitehall & for the first part of I Wanna Be a Producer. I am having some extremely childish hurt feelings as guess whose biography they left out of the program?
-
DR Michael S - Thanks for those "soap opera crossovers". I remember the whole Linda Dano "stunt". I think that was part of one of her anniversary years with the network.
50th or 75th?
Well, in "soap opera time", probably her 10th. ;)

DR JMK - Ooohhhhh!!!!! I've had that happen to me before too. And you're not being childish. It does hurt. However, hopefully, you'll get your own program insert to rectify the situation - in addition to a large print placard in the lobby of the theatre. -That helped me feel much better. ;)
*And that's also why I always check the program when it goes around for proofing.

PAGE SEVEN 2:00AM DANCE!!
*Well, it's almost 2:00am here on the East Coast.

Glad to hear that you had a good opening night, DR JMK! Just remember...
Keep it gay!
-
DR George - I hope you had a wonderful night too.

Well, tomorrow will be another "sight-seeing" day for me. My friend, John, is in town from Chicago this weekend. He'll be starting grad school at SUNY-Purchase this fall, but he's spending some time in the City before he heads up to Purchase next week to get some things lined up for his arrival in a few months. Something tells me some impromptu duets may be taking place in Steinway Hall. :)
-
Oh, after I semi-napped in Times Square, I headed down to Little Italy to meet up with some folks for some coffee and chat. And then I proceeded to wander around for a bit.. Chinatown, SoHo, Washington Square Park, West Village... About three hours later, I finally hopped on the train back uptown.
And here I am.
-
And now I'm going to sleep.
Goodnight.
