Druxy, a dime will get you a dollar that within a year or two ALL players will handle Blu-rays.  It's just the nature of the beast.

Could be.  But, I do agree with BK.  Blu-Ray is still going to be a niche market.

BK

I know this is out of left field but what about Ken Page? I believe he lives in LA and I think you have worked with him before.

The sun is setting, and it's not too warm out, so I think I'll take a walk.

Speaking, as we are, of Blu-ray discs:

I was more than thrilled with the quality of the newish BD of "Grease" (The Bobby Rydell Edition).  Why it's called the "Bobby Rydell Edition" is beyond me, but it is called that.

Don't know if you were kidding or not, but its actually called Rockin' Rydell Edition. (Rydell is the name of the high school)

Does anyone remember a movie called Headin' for Broadway (written, directed, scored by Joseph Brooks) from 1980?

Ken Page is in NYC doing HAPPINESS at Lincoln Center.  I believe that runs until June 7th.

Had such a fun evening of viewing.

I began by finishing the NCIS episode about Tony being framed for murder. Really enjoyed seeing it again, especially the "troops" rallying around him when it appeared as if all were lost.

If it IS only going to be a niche (which I dispute), it's sure going to be a bigger niche than laserdisc was. Only 2 million players for laserdisc were ever sold (and I bought three of them). Blu-ray already has 10 million sold and counting.

Some semi-out-of-the-blue quotes for today:

"We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." MLK, Jr.

"He who is not angry when there is just cause for anger is immoral. Why? Because anger looks to the good of justice. And if you can live amid injustice without anger, you are immoral as well as unjust." St. Thomas Aquinas

Was Tommy Aquinas on Twitter today?

No.  But he was on Facebook. ;)

I went ahead and watched another NCIS episode. This was the one with Tony and Ziva locked in a metal box with thousands of DVDs and $100 million in counterfeit bills. I remembered the identity of the schemer in this one, too, but I enjoyed seeing Tony and Ziva spar with each other before the rescue.

Then I watched BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES on Blu-ray. Hadn't seen this sequel in quite some time, and seeing James Franciscus in high definition was quite something. Boy, was he a gorgeous man!

DR Jennifer - As for "Y&R"... Well... As far as age differences go... Have you been watching "The Bold & The Beautiful" lately?  There's some truly cringe-worthy coupling going on there right now.  And, sadly(?), it looks likes it has been set up to induce cringing.  ::)

Which couples are you talking about? I often ff thru the show and i actually find jackie and owen sort of interesting (if that is who you were referring to).

Well... Jackie and Owen, and Jack Wrangler's character and whats-her-name.  -The "confrontation" last week truly made me laugh out loud.

And I concluded my evening rewatching AN AMERICAN IN PARIS on Blu-ray. I tried different settings on the receiver to try to give some body and heft to the low bitrate mono soundtrack, but it is what it is, I guess.

Tomorrow I start on my next work project - CANNON, Season 2, Volume 2. This is a box set I didn't request but Paramount sent anyway. It's the only disc I have that's due on June 2nd, so I don't mind doing it even though I didn't ask for it.

IN ORDER TO MAKE A MORE PERFECT PASTA...

Der B and I went down to the farmer's market, found some nice spring onions, radishes (oooh, purple and pink and white!), fresh new potatoes and snow peas, and then headed over to Nurture.  Nope, they didn't have any semolina flour.  But before they realized where they recognized me from, they suggested I try the SuperFresh grocery store.  Then they realized where I work, blushes abounded, and der B smoothed everything over by purchasing some country pate.

Up to SuperGiant.  Nope, we don't carry semolina.  Strange.  On up to Superfresh (there was a notary public across the highway we needed to see, so it was worth the trip).  They indeed had the semolina.  They also had Lawry's Lemon Pepper, which der B loves and we don't carry.  Coming back home, I decided we could drop by the other two supermarkets.  Safeway had the semonlina... at a higher price than SuperFresh.  Food Lion did not have any semolina... but carried the Lemon Pepper... for less than we paid at SuperFresh.

DR SWW - Do any of the grocery stores in your area have a "bulk aisle"?  I remember when I would regularly make pasta and semolina bread, the only place I could find semolina flour was in the scoop-it-yourself bulk bins at Safeway and Whole Foods.  -And, yes, it was cheaper at Whole Foods.

*There was also a fancy-schmancy brand - I forget the name right now - that came in 500g boxes in the "Ethnic Foods" aisle.

In other news...

It's currently 54 degrees in New York City - at least in Central Park - and tomorrow's high is only supposed to get up to 66... with rain.  -At least it all held off until after the holiday weekend.

DR Ron Pulliam - A friend of mine is currently doing some research out in California for a new cookbook. He's in San Francisco right now, and raved about the breakfast treats at Tartine he had this morning.  I suggested that he head to La Farine tomorrow if he has the time. :)

For those who are following the story of Chris Engen (Adam on The Young & The Restless), the guy who quit the show because he was being forced to kiss a man, here is his response:

Back from the Kansas City Barbecue - the house shaking has reached epic proportions - it literally feels like a 7.0 earthquake every two minutes.  Pictures are crooked and there's no sense in straightening them until these oafs are done.  I'm told that today is it for the big machines - we shall see.  If today isn't it for the big machines then tomorrow they get a call from me and a bill for piano tuning, aspirin, and whatever else I think of.

bk - You may want to go ahead and at least lodge a complaint against the construction company with your local Noise Enforcement Team - which is part of the LAPD.  It will make it easier for you to file for any damages and whatnot in the future.

*And even though you're not the one having the work done, you may find some handy-dandy info here: Contractors From Hell

And since I seem to be in quote mode, here's another one - courtesy of the MTA's "Train Of Thought" program:

"To doubt everything or to believe everything are two equally convenient solutions; both dispense with the need for thought."
