I did get the entire house rekeyed today, including putting on deadbolts on all the exterior doors which didn't have them already (and there were several).  Really cool, funny Sabra (native born Israeli) locksmith, who told me, "I'll be done in time for Shabbat.  It doesn't matter at all to me, but in case it does to you."  :)  He also helped lift the tv, so I gave him a tip.

He asked me if I were related to an Israeli schoolmate of his named Kaufman.  I said I might be, and he answered, "It's better for you if you're not--he was an awful person."  :)

DR JMK - When I was living in Richmond, I somehow ended up with a Qwest phone account.  I believe it was some sort of scam and/or joke.  I was not charged for anything, but I somehow had an account.  It took about three weeks and countless phone calls to close that account which I had not opened in the first place. I still cringe whenever I'm in Arlington, VA, and I drive by their office building in Ballston.

Both he and his father were Israeli Air Force.  He only got to fly a Cessna, which made me laugh.  He told me, "They don't send you out in a 50 million dollar aircraft right away."  ;)

I was aghast at Qwest until the three workers showed up here personally to solve everything.  That earned a bit of customer loyalty back.  Portland is still pretty much a one horse town as far as phone service goes.  Some neighborhoods do offer Comcast, but Qwest is the biggie out here.

We have been enjoying this gigantic Panasonic that came mounted on the stone fireplace.  I splurged and got two of the new DirecTV boxes, one with an HD-DVR and the other one with "sharing" capability, so even though only the bedroom unit records, I can watch stuff anywhere.  The wireless is a bit of an issue here since the house is so big and I prefer to have the modem/router with the computer.

JMK I am glad that your move is nearly accomplished - I hope the Landlord process goes well for you!

Debby, if you think our move is nearly accomplished, have I got a bridge to sell you.  ;)

LOL!  I know better than that I have boxes I still have to unpack and we moved here 18 years ago

Good evening all.
It has been a long week and I am tired.  This weekend is full of birthday parties and travel and concerts and jazz singing and seeing family and more travel.

I agree wholeheartedly with BK's rant on (some) parents.  Every day I see parents who are reaping the rewards of inconsistency and over-spoiling of their children.  I have tremendous respect children, even at a young age.  I know they have their own wants and needs and I want them to feel as they have a valid self, a voice, even when they are young.  This does NOT mean, however, that I allow them to rule the roost, be it my classroom or my home.  I set rules, boundaries, and expectations because I have their best interests at heart.  They might not like all the rules, but they will follow them.  Where there is room for freedom and choice, I give it freely.

Toby is still too young for me to have encountered a lot of these problems, but he knows the expectations of him even now.  He knows when bed time is, that he has to eat a good dinner before he gets his fruit for dessert, and that he is not allowed to touch Daddy's LCD TV screen.

Jed and I both work full time, it's true, but our situation has proven to be a good one.  Toby goes to school with me, I get to watch him play and learn all day, and then we drive home together.  He is my constant little companion, and I adore every minute of it.

This evening I sat in the rocking chair reading BK's book as I waited for Toby to fall asleep.  I kept reading until it was too dark in his room to see the pages.  I will now go up to bed and read some more before I sleep.  I am loving this book.

Ann, you and Jed are ideal young parents, the kind I was with my daughter.  It's heartening to hear and I know there are others like you - just not enough.
