Well, you've read the notes, there were no suddent surprises in the notes, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home, which might just be suddently.
-
And the word of the day is: BONGO!
-
Well, BK, I still want to see TEAM AMERICA because I think SOUTH PARK is still the funniest, sharpest, over-the-top, dead-on-target satire on TV.
DEAD RINGERS is, I agree, a laudable film, but I found it so uncomfortable that I don't think I ever need to see it again.
My favourite Harold Arlen song is OUT OF THIS WORLD with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. It is from a Paramount movie of the same title in the late forties where Eddie Bracken plays a schlub who when he sings happens to sound just like Bing Crosby. The voice is, of course, dubbed by the old Groaner himself. His version of the song is still the best version I've ever heard...despite the fact, that it has lately seemed to had a resurgence in popularity with many and sundry adding it to their repertoire. I have an audio tape version of Crosby doing it quite prettily, but the only version of his that I can find on CD is excerpt from the movie with a cameo of his kids speaking over the song.
It is a haunting lovely melody with a lovely Mercer lyric.
-
I hope you like Team America better than I did. For me, it had none of the humor, sharpness, or dead-on-target satire of South Park.
-
Favourite Arlen songs:
Any Place I Hang My Hat
Happiness Is A Thing Called Joe
It's only a Paper Moon
Stormy Weather
One For My Baby
That Old Black Magic
-
Love Paper Moon - incredible piece of music.
-
BONGO, baby, BONGO!
-
And now - Dino at the piano.
And me, toddling off to the bedroom environment, at long last.
-
Good morning, all! Today is a GOLDEN APPLE day; three proofs on the vocal score and I'm still finding errors! The next score I do will have a second proofer to check over my first pass I've made to see what I missed. possible. It's been for years a mess of a show: the rental orchestra parts are the uncorrected masters of the corrected 1954 Broadway parts (meaning the Broadway parts have corrections the rental parts do not), then in 1977 Jerome Moross delivered to Tams-Witmark a "final score" with its own errors and variant musical changes that differ from the rental orchestra parts; my job was to reconcile everything and create a new vocal score, and I'm still finding errors in my work! I'm now correcting the orchestra parts to provide a new set that jives with the new score. Oy! Hopefully, when this August concert is over, we'll be as close as possible to a good edition.
TOD: My alltime favorite Arlen song is "My Shining Hour"
"Push De Button"
"Over the Rainbow"
"It's Only a Paper Moon"
"The Man That Got Away"
"Blues in the Night"
"Stormy Weather"
"I Never Has Seen Snow"
"Sleepin' Bee"
"Any Place I Hang My Hat is Home"
He wrote too many great ones! I can't think of that many right now.
-
Good morning, DR ELMORE!
How are you this moring? Hope you feel better.
-
DR TOMOVOZ, Thank you for the beautiful birds photo!
And I have a question to you. I heard that in Australia, Manuka Honey is famous as a good medicine for a stomach ulcer. Is that true? I’ve no idea if I’ve had Manuka so far but would like to try it if your answer is Yes. ( however, I’ve not a stomach ulcer) :)
-
Good morning, DR ELMORE!
How are you this moring? Hope you feel better.
Good morning, DRHisaka! Thank you for asking. I'm starting to feel my old self again. Inless I hear really distressing things from the surgeon this week, I think I'm healing nicely. I love your photos of the roses. Are they all from your garden? It must be lovely. How are things coming along for you?
-
.....As for yesterday’s TOD: The Sky Over Berlin by Wim Wenders. I know it’s not a kind of circus film but the circus scenes impressed immensely themselves on me. So I’d like to add it on the dear readers’ lists.
-

Wish you’re healing nicely.
Yes, the roses are all from my garden and they bloom very proudly this year. :D Glad you like them.
My mother is getting better (she has had a manic-depressive psychosis for about five years) so I reassure myself about her health for the moment. :)
-
Expresso Bongo!

Harold Arlen:
My favorites have been mentioned, but can be mentioned again.
Add votes for:
It's Only a Paper Moon
Blues In The Night
Over the Rainbow.
My favorite though, it knocks me out each time I hear it, the perfect combination of singer, song, time, costume, feeling....the works:
Miss Judy Garland singing "The Man That Got Away" in the film A STAR IS BORN. "Good riddance....goo' bye...every trick of his you're on to. But fools will be fools, and where's he gone to?" What a beautiful melody...longing in every note.
-
Irving Berlin was out at MGM when EASTER PARADE was being made. He and Judy were in the rehearsal hall, and he corrected her phrasing in a song.
Judy said: "Look here, bub, you write 'em, I sing 'em!" LOL. ;D
Irving laughed louder than anyone.
Judy singing Arlen..... 8)
-
Why didn't Mr Race Gentry become a bigger star? He certainly was as handsome as some of those that did.
Well DRMBARNUM sent me a movie that answers that question. It is called "Hard Driving" aka "Thunder Over Carolina". He is NOT a bad actor, but his voice sounds like a mix of Lee Philips (from Peyton Place) and Mickey Mouse. It is most disconcerting to hear that voice come from that face.
-
All my Arlen favorites have been named but for the record:
"The Man That Got Away"
"Blues in the Night"
"I Never Has Seen Snow"
"Over the Rainbow"
-
In the book TWINS that DEAD RINGERS was adapted from, the twins have a sexual relationship with each other that extends the drama even deeper. I believe this was omitted from the film version, but it's been so long since I saw it that I could be mistaken. I, too, found the film (and the book) very, very disturbing.
-
I have no idea as I sit here typing which DVDs will inhabit my player today. With only a couple of network shows I'll be watching tonight, DVD will be a major part of my entertainment today, but I just haven't decided what I want to watch (other than a couple of more ANGEL episodes to finish up the disc in the player and pretty much finish up season 2 of the show.)
-
Last night, DR Dan (the Man) wrote his choices for Best Circus Films:
Favorite Circus films:
Dumbo
The Seven Faces of Dr Lao
Carnival of Souls
HOW could I forget THE SEVEN FACES OF DR. LAO? It's one of my all-time favorite fantasy films and I watch it several times a year. Thank you SO much for reminding me of it.
-
HOW could I forget THE SEVEN FACES OF DR. LAO? It's one of my all-time favorite fantasy films and I watch it several times a year. Thank you SO much for reminding me of it.
I forgot DR LAO as well, along with the creepy SOMETHING WICKED THIS WAY COMES, also JULIET OF THE SPIRITS; although the circus theme is completely peripheral my entire memory of the film is the elopement in the balloon.
-
Elmore! You dog! ;) You just beat me out on a copy of 7 FACES OF DR. LAO on E-bay, didn't you?
I just hit the Buy Now button and was told it was sold to an Elmore5!
-
Good Morning!
I shall be getting in my motor car shortly to drive to the Metro station so that I can a Metro car into DC this afternoon so that I can play both shows of Mamma Mia! today.
I was toying with the idea of driving in and cycling the block looking for parking, but... Today is Rolling Thunder - and even out here in Fairfax, I've been hearing some rolling and thundering all morning. Apparently, it's supposed to be the largest gathering so far for this event. Should be quite the "earful" once I get downtown.
In any case...
-
From yesterday...
DR Pogue mentioned the movie "Carny"... I remember that movie too. When I was around 10, 11... maybe later... that movie was on HBO a lot. A LOT! I vividly remember waking up one morning - a school morning! - and flipping channels while I was eating my breakfast... And suddenly there was Jodie Foster semi-naked on my TV screen.. at 7:30 in the morning?!??! In any case... It was one of those movies that just happened to be on any time I was trying to find something interesting to watch. I think I eventually watched the whole movie, but I never did it in one sitting. Nor sequentially/chronologically either.
;)
-
Elmore, I hope you know I'm only teasing you. I think it's pretty funny.
-
Favorite Harold Arlen songs...
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Let's Fall in Love
Hooray for Love
This Time the Dream's On Me
Let's Take a Walk Around the Block
As Long As I Live
It Was Written in the Stars
Sing My Heart
Ding-Dong the Witch Is Dead
And many, many others...
*However, it is interesting analyzing the various imagery that Arlen's lyricists use - their trademarks. My friend, Bev, used to an Arlen cabaret, but she would feature the lyricists. Very interesting and very entertaining. It was neat seeing how Arlen's music fit with different people's "images" of love - whether it was more "emotions" based, or nature-based (butterflies, flowers, etc.).
-
As for "Team America"...
It's definitely not a movie for everyone. I knew going in that was is going to lean toward the rude and crude and gross side, so... I did find it funny in a lot of places... But, just like in "South Park" - the movie and the TV series, I did have a few "uncomfortable" places.
That being said, when I saw it in Houston last fall, the theatre was filled with a bunch of theatre people, as well as various groups of high school and college kids. Needless to say, "we" all liked it and were laughing out loud - and hysterically - at times. There's definitely a "this movie is best seen with a group of buds" set-up.
And that's horse racing...
-
Oh...
Well, since I'm still here...
-
BONGO! Baby, BONGO!!!
-
But before I leave....
Does anyone else think that the fact that Brooklyn actually posted their closing notice in a timely fashion - four weeks notice rather than the now-normal two or one week notice - is an attempt - a "hope" - that they may somehow have some post-Tony pick up in business?
-Boy was that sentence quite a run-on...
It will be the only show no nommed to remain open after the Tony Awards ceremony.
Just wondering?
Or maybe it has something to do with the Plymouth Theatre since that is where Jekyll & Hyde played for so long, or as some people thought... too long.
;)
-
...Which was just renamed the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre...
*Anyone know if Gerald Schoefeld and Mark Schoenfeld (the composer of Brooklyn are related?
Hmm....
In any case..
-
I have spent too long at the fair....
Time to head out...
Laters...
-
Elmore! You dog! ;) You just beat me out on a copy of 7 FACES OF DR. LAO on E-bay, didn't you?
I just hit the Buy Now button and was told it was sold to an Elmore5!
DRDanise, I'm so sorry! I am such a dog! Forgive me. If I'd known you were after it as well, I'd have let you take it.
-
Speaking of "Ding dong the witch is dead," it's what the Chelsea Music copyists were singing on the day the director of THE RED SHOES, whose latest show just closed, was replaced.
-
DRDanise, I'm so sorry! I am such a dog! Forgive me. If I'd known you were after it as well, I'd have let you take it.
Awww, it's ok. Like I said, I just thought it was funny. You must have just hit the buy button at about the same time I did. :D
That's one of the few times I've ever been beat out on something I wanted on E-bay and it had to be by a friend! :o :)
-
I've been looking at hotel packages all morning long--I was trying to find a package deal (airfare/hotel/transport to/from the hotel) on the Comfort Inn Midtown but none of the travel services list it.
It's just across the street from the Muse but at a much lower price. If I felt more comfortable about it, I guess I could book everything seperate but I worry that you start having problems when you do that. How do most of you book your travel? Package deals or everything seperate?
-
Gotta run for now.
Laters all!
-
I think everything the show Bklyn has done has been shameless, stupid, and pointless, including opening in the first place.
-
Of course, I haven't seen it, but I have been told, oh, yes, I have been told by people I trust.
-
Favorite Harold Arlen songs:
COME RAIN OR COME SHINE
LET'S FALL IN LOVE
MAN THAT GOT A WAY
SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
STORMY WEATHER
-
I liked SOUTH PARK for the first couple of seasons, but eventually it seemed to turn into one big half hour of seeing how many times the kids could swear...it just got tiring for me...I would like to think the show got back to being funny instead of just gross. I should check it out again.
-
"In the 'waiting for romance to come' war"
BK, that's what it sounded like, but I just didn't get it. It turns out that it was the punctuation that I really needed. ;D
-
My, what a handsome group!
-
Perfect race day weather. I hope someone wins.
-
Favorite Harold Arlen songs:
The Man That Got Away (only sung by Judy...of course)
One For My Baby
Paper Moon (Laurel Masse, formerly of The Manhattan Transfer recorded a kick-ass up-tempo version of this song!)
Stormy Weather
That Old Black Magic (Janis Siegel of The Manhattan Transfer recorded this song and the arrangement changes time signatures several times. It's predominantly in 5/4 and it's wonderful!!)
-
'THE MAN THAT GOT AWAY'
That's the name of my next book...... oh.. wait.....
that's the name of my autobiography.
-
ABC just interviewed Russell Crowe. Yes, if I want real insight on the Indianapolis 500, Mr. Crowe would certainly be my first choice.
-
Well in the past, DR TCB, the local stations have interviewed such experts on Auto Racing as Barbara Eden, Florence Henderson, Eddie Bracken, and Shelley Winters.
-
The most insightful thoughts however were given by that pea picker Tennessee Ernie Ford who was given a bouquet of flowers on the steps of the Veteran's Hospital by Miss Frances Farmer, and everyone looked liked they weren't quite sure what he/she was doing there.
-
Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com?
Spent the morning dealing with After the Ball AFTRA details. We should now be able to just hand over all the paperwork to a payroll service and be done with it.
-
No, no, no, this will NOT do - no posts in forty minutes. You'd think it was a Sunday on Memorial Day weekend. Let us get off our complacent butt cheeks and get some action goin' on around here.
-
My goodness, I just achieved my new mini-plateau. But the site will NOT achieve its new plateua with this sort of errant and truant behavior.
-
No, no, no, this will NOT do - no posts in forty minutes.
I've been a good girl and have been at church all morning.
-
I've been a good boy and I have NOT been at church all morning.
-
I'm watching Orson Welles' F is for Fake. I've never seen it before - fascinating film.
-
I now have to take a shower so that I will be squeeky clean and refreshed to usher in less than an hour for a local production of Quilters. I've only seen this once before (a high school production) and I have to admit that that high school production was one of the best high school productions of any show that I had ever seen. It was absolutely wonderful. The actresses chosen for the roles were perfect...and they were the most experienced performers of the school.
So, I'm fairly apprehensive about seeing this. It's being put on by a local church group and, no offense to anyone who has been a part of a church group that has put on a theatrical production, my experience has been that even though they give it their all, the end product is quite (and I mean quite) lacking in theatrical talent. But since I am only ushering (and didn't pay), I don't have to watch it if I don't want to. We'll see. I'll give a report when I get back.
-

As a member of a church group, I quite agree with you.
-
I meant to comment on CARNY, too, yesterday. I found it haunting and memorable, but I've only seen it once at the theater when I first reviewed it.
-
Well, in choosing things to watch today, I chose one from the shelves which I've already watched on DVD and one from the to-watch shelf that had been there unopened for a time.
I picked ALL ABOUT EVE
and
8 1/2. Got about a half hour into the fascinating 8 1/2 and had to turn it off. I was just overcome with sleep and had to take a 45 minute nap.
I'm enjoying my last day off before we start doing dress rehearsals.
-
Penny just called. We had a long conversation and she is doing well. She says hi to everyone.
TCB & Jed she is planning a trip home in June and wants very much to see your show. Don’t be surprised if she shows up for a matinee one day. I just wish I could be there with her.
-
Hisaka I’m glad your mother is better and hope she stays so.
Danise, Keith makes most of our travel arrangements (lucky me). I don’t think we have ever booked with a package deal, everything is separate.
-
It is gray and cool outside today. A far cry from yesterday, but ah well. We can't have beautiful weather all the time, now can we? It's supposed to warm up and get a bit sunnier later on today, so we shall see. Last night DR Jed and I ventured up to Seattle to enjoy the waterfront, and ending up having a simply delicious meal at the Old Spaghetti Factory. I highly reccomend the spinach tortellini with alfredo sauce!
Now DR Jed is off with TCB, finding out if Annie does indeed get her gun, and here I sit enjoying some homemade tapioca pudding. Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
-
Very gray here as well. It even drizzled here this morning.
-
Lovely day here. I am watching HONG KONG NOCTURNE
-
It's mostly cloudy and fairly cool here (74) but a very nice day for May. It was hot yesterday.
-
Gray skies in Oregon as well...you would think it would be nicer for the holidays!
I was not going to watch any movies today as I was movie-ed out from the last two days...but I got bored and am now watching the 1934 Monogram version of JANE EYRE.
Colin Clive is very good in it...Virginia Bruce and little Edith Fellows are doing their best to chew up ever last bit of scenery. Beryl Mercer is a wonderful character actress and can do no wrong....it is a fun movie, and believe it or don't, I have never seen any version of Jane Eyre before this.
-
I am also the only one here at HHW right now! :o
BK will not be happy!
-
Well, looky here...two of my interviewees together!
Mr. Van Williams and Ms. Diane McBain...what beautiful people!

Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com? How ever will we reach our new plateau?

DR TOMOVOZ, Thank you for the beautiful birds photo!
And I have a question to you. I heard that in Australia, Manuka Honey is famous as a good medicine for a stomach ulcer. Is that true? I’ve no idea if I’ve had Manuka so far but would like to try it if your answer is Yes. ( however, I’ve not a stomach ulcer) :)
I don't like or eat Honey but it often said to be a cure for so many things. Pollen is also very poopular here as a health aid. Such fame has Manuka that I have never heard of it.
The roses are always beautiful - my favourite flowers.
-
ABC just interviewed Russell Crowe. Yes, if I want real insight on the Indianapolis 500, Mr. Crowe would certainly be my first choice.
Just remember he is from the land of Hobbits.
-
A slow day here at HHW, indeed. I have been to the gym in anticipation of the ice cream indulgence tonight with Jed and TCB.
Tomovoz, I don't know if I've said it, but it's so wonderful to see you back on the site. I hope all is well with you.
-
All of the girls who are dancers in this movie are suprisingly GRACELESS.
-
Thank you DR Ann. Each day is better. Ice cream indulgence - I'll be there in spirit.
-
I had something very magical happen today. I was working in the living room when I heard a bird squawking in the kitchen window. I went running because I thought one of the dogs had caught a bird.
Much to my surprise, it was a baby Jay. He/She was bigger then the one I saw in the back yard a week or so ago. Anyway, I went out because I thought he/she may not be able to fly and (again) I didn’t want the dogs to get it.
He/She flew to my hand (!) but before I could touch him/her, it was up to the roof of our shed then up to the tree. I was stunned. Do you think it is possible that it was the same baby bird I saved the other week coming say “hello”?
Maybe yes and maybe no but I had tears in my eyes at the thought of it.
-
I deleted the photo program I had loaded and am just doing a test to see if I can up load photos I know I loaded before.
I still want to up load the scans of the Herc picture/story for DR Charles Pogue. Maybe this will do it.
Ok let's see if one that I up loaded before works.
-
Ok, that worked.
Let's try the Herc stuff now.
-
Yay! It worked! It worked! It WAS that other photo program that was blocking it!
-
Warning, I remember I made the next one a bit big so you can read the print. If it's to big and throws us into widescreen, I will delete it.
-
Here goes nothing........
-
Is it to big? Not big enough?
-
Works fine for me DRDANISE. And I also know now where I can get some sod!
-
And my guess would be it was your bird friend....no other bird would seek out that slight human contact!
-
Danise your bird story is wonderful. I’m so happy for you. My guess it is the same bird.
I also enjoyed the photos. I will attempt to read the story when I’m off the laptop and using our main computer.
-
Six-thirty, no one here, and we're on our way directly into the toilet for a new and record low, in addition to not having the paltry twenty or thirty posts we need to achieve our new plateau. Skammen.
-
I am here, I am here...so I will post.
I am (still) working on my Tony Russel interview...it is a long one to transcribe from tape..whew! But DR Sandra will enjoy his talking about his adventures in fencing...and almost losing an eye because of Guy Williams swung the sword high, while he parried low! LOL!
-
And now Elmore3003 is here also, and I am sure he will have several amusing things to post about as well.
Never give up hope!
-
And speaking of Hope (Bob, that is) I am going to watch a tape of SORROWFUL JONES whilst eating my dinner.
-
Look at that BK, 4 posts in 3 minutes.
-
Never give up Hope.
Hope floats.
Or was that Sorrow. (a "Hotel New Hampshire" reference.)
-
Hello DR Ben. I know there can be no Video of Anthony's show but will there be an audio?
-
DR MBarnum - The Ebb Tide shall eventually reach your shores. Time needed for exploration and discovery. I'll probably be overcome by waves of nostalgia - Earl Grant, The Platters and Martin Denny are starters.
-
Perhaps the NW gang will post and tell us all about their individual and collective ice-cream indulgences.
-
It's nearly lunch time here in OZ. Visitors are expected (with lunch for the aged and infirm) so I shall return later - with a flurry of posts if necessary BK.
-

Woohoo! I will be very much looking forward to that!!
-
Mention of MBarnum and he appears magically - or was he just left by the outgoing tide.
-
It will be a pleasure Michael - just being able to do it (associated bending and searching through boxes etc) will be a joy. A couple of weeks yet I think.
-
There may be 100 posts before my lunch arrives.
-
I'm hoping for chicken and avocado sandwiches.
-
Is this a slow news day here at haineshisway.com? How ever will we reach our new plateau?
I'm back from seeing Quilters and having dinner (and I've caught up with all the posts). I'm very happy to report that the show was wonderful! I loved it the first time I saw it and this church group (thankfully) cast some very good performers. They were all fairly strong actors/singers. It was a small audience...only about 150 or so (in a theater that seats 988!), but they loved it. The very simple set of just a frame of a house up center with the band behind that and two little platforms on each side brought the action down front and close to the audience. The staging was very effective and there never seemed to be any parts that dragged. The energy level was up during the whole show. It was a very enjoyable two+ hours. ;D
-
It's almost 11 p.m. here on the East Coast, and I can't believe the day is almost over. Amazing how fast it's flown by. I didn't quite get to the end of 8 1/2 (grand Criterion job on the film), but cut it off to see COLD CASE, Mario Cantone's LAUGH WHORE, and QUEER AS FOLK.
Those three hours of HDTV flew by like they were 20 minutes.
-
Obviously Billy Crystal is going to win the Tony for Outstanding Theatrical Experience for 700 SUNDAYS, but what do you want to bet that Mario wins the Emmy this year for Individual Performance in a Variety Special?
-
And now Elmore3003 is here also, and I am sure he will have several amusing things to post about as well.
Never give up hope!
DRMBarnum, how are you? Did I help you out today? God knows I tried!
I've just finished my GOLDEN APPLE work for the day, and I'm very tired. I have to do a warm sitzbath and hit the bed soon. I went out for a bit, and there was a street fair on Broadway between 79th and 86th Streets, which I think DRsDanise, Jane, Ginny, and MBarnum, if he ever gets to NYC, would love. I bought 12 pairs of socks for $$14.00 and two nice pillows to replace two old ones for $10. I came home, made some yummilicious tuna salad, finished my work, and here I am.
-
More news from the (obviously) cursed production of LA CAGE AUX FOLLES I'm going to be opening in this week: yesterday, the director dropped a weight on his foot and he found out today when his foot started turning black that he broke his big toe on his right foot.
And the hits just keep on comin' . . . .
-

Oy, DR Matt. Maybe y'all should do Macbeth instead.

Jane, both Jed and I wish you could come see the show, but we certainly understand when that isn't possible. However, it would be wonderful to finally get to meet Penny, though.
-
An all-time low? No way, BK (or Jose); not while there is still blood in my fingertips and, at least, one brain cell somewhere in my body!!
-
Now, let me see........ what should I talk about ............ rehearsal? or ice cream?
-
Hmmm, perhaps ice cream would be a better topic.
-
I thought AGYG was having a few problems leading up to opening night. However, after reading all of Matt H's posts in recent weeks regarding LA CAGE, our show is looking more and more like a real beauty (but then, Beauty was a horse).
-
After rehearsal, DS Jed, the always charming Ann, and I went for Sunday ice cream. I would say where the three of us went, but since we seem to be the only three people here who like this place, we shall just leave at that.
-
Anyway, in addition to eating some tasty ice cream, we spent a couple of hours dishing the dirt about rehearsals, discussing various parental figures, and commenting on the fact that my college girlfriend ended up marrying (or Marying) my favorite drama professor.
Both Ann and Jed know my former girlfriend, but only as my professor's wife, and not as my former girlfriend. I think they just enjoy seeing the shocked expression on my face every time the subject gets brought up.
-
Come along, Larry, I can't do this all on my own.
-
Watching a most wonderful film - and shockingly, it's not an older film, it's from last year. More in a bit.
And, we've achieved our new plateau - 120,000 postings! Now, all we need is not to hit a new low.
-
Well, let me see.................

In order to up the number of posts, I shall post some photos.
Today we went to a wedding reception. Here is DRSandra's piece of delicious wedding cake:
-
When we got home, we found this handsome fella, quite at home on our sofa. He must have come through the pet door. We don't know who he belongs to:
-
Jane -- want a half-grown kitten?
-
I have a feeling that tomorrow's weather is not going to be nearly as nice as they had originally told us. After temperatures in the high 80s and low 90s on Friday and Saturday, it cooled off rather dramatically today. Now there is quite a cloud layer moving in from the West.
-
What a beautiful kitty, Laura.
-
Want a half-grown kitten, TCB?
-
LOL! Yes, Elmore3003, you did a fine job of trying to help me today..but little did you know that Harold Arlen is one songwriter I am familiar with!
When I opened my e-mail this morning Elmore3003 had kindly sent me links to numerous Harold Arlen websites so that I could comment on todays TOD! LOL! He knows I have trouble with some of these subjects that aren't necessarily B-movie related!....of course I saw his e-mail prior to reading todays notes, so I just thought Larry had finally flipped his lid! I had no clue (or clew) as to why my in-box was full of Harold Arlen info!

DearReaderLaura, I do believe that cat thinks he has found himself a home! LOL!
-
Oh, thank goodness, reinforcements

Good Evening!
Monday... The Day Off!
-Almost a Sunday in the Park with George reference...
Good shows today. I did have one major case of the drowsies towards the end of the first act. I heard the cue line, then I heard the click track start... Then I realized, "OH!!! !@#!@!, I'm supposed to play.... NOW!"
I think I might have even audibly gasped. I do know that when I looked up at the conductor, he had this interesting smile on his face. I apologized to him at intermission, and he said it was OK. I didn't miss the entrance, but he did see the shock in my eyes at that moment.
But no harm done.
Whew!
-
Yes, Laura, he looks quite at home to me.
-
Don't be shy, Jose, tell us everything you had to eat today.

After rehearsal, DS Jed, the always charming Ann, and I went for Sunday ice cream. I would say where the three of us went, but since we seem to be the only three people here who like this place, we shall just leave at that.
Mine was of the "Black Forest Dream" variety... chocolate ice cream with cherry pie filling, brownie chunks, and chocolate syrup. Very tasty.
-
Anyway, in addition to eating some tasty ice cream, we spent a couple of hours dishing the dirt about rehearsals, discussing various parental figures, and commenting on the fact that my college girlfriend ended up marrying (or Marying) my favorite drama professor.
Both Ann and Jed know my former girlfriend, but only as my professor's wife, and not as my former girlfriend. I think they just enjoy seeing the shocked expression on my face every time the subject gets brought up.
Yes, yes we do.

Between shows, I joined the local guitar player and other local keyboard player. We were originally thinking either Italian or Beef (steak)... But we ended up at Bistro d'Oc for French food.
C'est magnifique!
I went ahead and splurged on the moules frites - mussels and French fries. The owner's wife is from Thailand, so there was a bit of lemongrass in the broth - a very nice touch. And the pommes frites were as delicious and addictive as ever.
Then came the real splurge... Dessert! It was some chocolate creation/concoction: chocolate fondant, chocolate mousse, chocolate sauce, chocolate ice cream, chocolate sauce, with a splash of armagnac and a pistachio macaroon (cookie). C'est delicieux!. And it was just the perfect serving size. Not too small, not too big. But still very indulgent.
Thankfully, we had all finished our meals in time to give each of us time to digest our delicious meals so that we wouldn't be in food comas during the second show.
;)

Oh, and for lunch before the matinee, I stopped by Potbelly's and got a cup of vegetable soup and a "Wreck" on wheat. Very tasty and filling. -Oh, and one of their Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies.
-
Don't be shy, Jose, tell us everything you had to eat today.
Done!
:D
-
When we got home, we found this handsome fella, quite at home on our sofa. He must have come through the pet door. We don't know who he belongs to:
We named him Scotty after F. Scott Fitzgerald.
-
Yes, yes we do.
Almost as much as I enjoy the looks on your faces when I tell you stories about the professor's wife, back when she was my girlfriend.
-

Jose, what is a "Wreck" on wheat (or even off-wheat)

The audience for the evening show was very vocal and energetic. Just what we needed for the final show of the week.
During the curtain call, the guitar player motioned to me to look up into the audience... Usually he's pointing out some very nice looking young lady he's spotted, but not this time...
This time is was a Mamma Maniac! And uber-fan!
I had seen this older gentleman before the show while we were waiting outside. He had on his Mamma Mia! t-shirt and his baseball cap. And when I looked up during the curtain call, there he was standing at the edge of the pit. Smiling. Singing along. Dancing - and actually doing all the correct hand choreography.
Soon enough, all of us in the pit had very toothy grins. It got to the point where if we looked at each other, we would start giggling. Of course, that would make us look back at the gentleman-fan...
;D
After we finished the playout music, the guitarist mentioned that he remembered him from the first time the show played DC. The guy saw the show a lot. And I guess he's starting his viewing cycle for this time round now too.
In any case... He was just what we all needed at the end of a long week.
And that is the power of ABBA!
;D

Jose, what is a "Wreck" on wheat (or even off-wheat)
A "Wreck" is Salami, Roast Beef, Turkey & Ham with Swiss Cheese.
It may sound like a huge sandwich, but it's not. It's the same size as Potbelly's other sandwiches. Each of their sandwiches has the same "weight" of meat - it's just a matter if it's one meat -turkey, ham, etc. - or a combination. For example... Well, see below:
And, yes, each sandwich is just $3.79. A nice "under $5.00 meal" with a Coke. And just over $5.00 with some chips. Or about $7.00 with a shake or smoothie.
;)

DR LAURA - is there a welcome mat by the Pet Door? If so, Scotty obviously knows how to read and decided to make himself at home.
-
I don't eat at Potbelly - I just look like I do.
-
I am doing Make Up Charts for the Oliver Cast....and tomorrow I teach the volunteers how to apply it - and whew! Sometimes we certainly get some interesting results.
And of course at the first make up call - all the high school boys say...not so much...ugh...none for me....and then by closing night they are all saying...don't you think I need more eyeliner? NO YOU DON'T!
-
Did BK say he saw a movie less than a year old that he liked?
-
The Greek dinner was a success. Lots of fun had by all - as well as lamb kabobs, Israili Couscous salad and pita bread with cucumber sauce dip - plus ice cream "affogato" style - ice cream with espresso poured over it. Quite the evening. It's been a long day. This morning, my alarm went off and I turned it off saying to myself "Why am I getting up so early, after all, it's Monday" so I went back to sleep only to wake up in a panic realizing that it indeed was Sunday and I had 12 minutes to make my 20+ mile drive to my church gig. Needless to say, I was late, but the Cantor went on without me and everything was cool. Only the second time in 15 years that I was late for Sunday morning mass.
-
Yes, he did. Naturally, it was not made in this country - it was made in the only country that seems to consistently make films I like these days - France. The fact that this film was not awarded an Oscar tells you just how stupid that organization is. And not to have nominated its leading actor, who should have also won. No screwy editing, no show-off direction, no bombastic music, no screenwriting 101 horse manure - just a good, old-fashioned, heart-warming and terrific film - Les Choristes, the best film released last year.
-
Welcome five GUESTS. We're talkin' about Harold Arlen songs. And Dino at the piano.
-
Ahhhhhhhhhhh.......back to makeup charts.

Well, I must be going. My work here is through...for now. I have to go to the house I'm house-sitting for the last night! Tomorrow I will be able to sleep in my own bed! The hide-a-bed that I have to sleep on is not comfortable at all!! Goodnight all!
-
Good night, George! Thank you for the help.
-
Good Morning!
Well... Sunday media check... ;)
CD Player - Billie Holliday - Ken Burns "Jazz" CD compilation.

OH!!!
I can't remember if I posted this the other day.... But if I did, please forgive my repetition...
As I was walking from to the theatre from the subway, I noticed this very attractive woman crossing the street coming towards me - I was crossing the other way. *And, yes, I can appreciate female beauty too. ;) In any case..
She had on a brown t-shirt, with the following in pink letters:
SILICONE FREE
;D
