DR Nursie, it's the Albert Finney SCROOGE I detest, much as I like the cast. I remember seeing it and thinking that, while it wasn't a LOST HORIZON disaster, it was just a very ugly film. I probably should watch it again sometme to see if my opinion's changed. I much prefer Alastair Sim, George C Scott and Patrick Stewart adaptations.

I just ordered SCROOGE from Amazon.com; I'll rewatch it.

I meant to be generic, that of all SCROOGE & CHRISTMAS CAROL movies, the Albert Finny one is my favorite.  It is because I never liked any of the versions up until then & I enjoyed Albert Finny so much.  I think I was over exposed to the Mr. Magoo one as a child which I hated with a passion.  I wish I had read A CHRISTMAS CAROL before I ever saw it.

I think many of the Jule Styne songs for Mr Magoo and better than those for the Albert Finney version, especially the evocative "Winter Was Warm."

And in case anyone was wondering, there really is a Mario Batali Colander.  I have to switch my 2008 colander for a 2009 colander, though.

Well, I haven't a clew how you figure out what day it is from that colander!

I remember visiting someone's house once as a child of perhaps 5 or 6.  They had the Mr. Magoo version of "A Christmas Carol" on the television and I remember being terribly frightened.

I haven't revisited as an adult to discover if it really was scary or not.

The California Highway Patrol plans no grace period before enforcing the law that takes effect today prohibiting the use of text-messaging devices -- including cellphones, BlackBerrys and laptop computers -- while driving, according to CHP spokeswoman Fran Clader. And a motorist does not have to be caught in a vehicle that is moving to get a ticket.

"Motorists may not text at a stoplight," she said. "They are still operating a vehicle and need to focus their attention on the safe operation of that vehicle."

Fines are $20 for first offenses and $50 for subsequent violations, Clader said.

I believe Monkey will be staying put today, since I really should stay put today and take care of some laundry and cleaning.  But things are always subject to change.

*I also want to make sure he doesn't get over-exposed right now.  The Museum of Modern Art did end up sharing my "tweet" about "Monkey at MoMA", and when I checked my emailbox this morning, I found a couple of nice comments from various people and other museums(!), as well as some professional photographers(!!?!!).  I don't want his new-found almost-celebrity to go to his head.

I wasn't scared, I HATED MR MAGOO! I disliked A CHRISTMAS CAROL.  Even after I discovered Dickens I didn't read A CHRISTMAS CAROL until after Albert Finny's performance.  I believe it is this reason I am against cartoon versions of the classics for children.

DVD: HOUSE OF CARDS
I loved this mini-series when I first saw and and I'm loving it now, too. Ian Richardson is absolutely superb.

I am surprised you remember seeing it.  The vibes must already be working!

At least ONCE today, every Hainsie/Kimlet should do "The Funky Monkey"!

Perhaps we need a variation of the Funky Monkey, ie, the Cheeky Monkey. Would this be the first HHW dance?

No, I believe that would be the Toga Tango.
