From the notes:

Quote
if the idiot drivers can keep from smacking into each other like a bunch of brain-dead twits....

Many a freeway smash up is NOT the fault the drivers with the dented fenders. Blow outs, line changes forced by overly agressive mergers, swerving/sudden braking do to debris on the highway - all often lead to accidents involving innocent parties.

Note - if a driver followed the safe-driving recommendations of leaving a minimum of six car lengths (some say 10) to the car ahead, that driver would be in constant braking mode as other cars filled up the gap!)

It sure is.  Maybe in some corner of his sub-conscious he wanted to stop what he was doing and this was the only way.  ???

This has been much discueed on the cable news shows

Der Brucer, I do agree with you. When I worked in retail I never called customers by their first name. When I hear clerks do that I just cringe. It seems like too much familiarity. Even the customers I would see on a regular basis I would still call Mr. _____ or Ms. ___, unless they instruced otherwise.

On the other hand, I don't really care too much how a clerk refers to me.

I'm going to do some writing now and then go back down and finish the one remaining bonus feature on the ENCHANTED disc.

Since I won't be joining network TV broadcasting until 10 p.m., I should have time for EASTERN PROMISES unless it's very long. I'll check when I go back down.

My workday is almost over and on my way home, I'm going to Books & Co. to hear Jacqueline Winspear, author of the Maisie Dobbs mystery series.

Bye for now!

Yesterday, Matthew asked about recordings of "Carmina Burana" and Jose posted pictures of his recommended recordings.  When I was going to Western Washington University, we performed this in 1988 with all of the choirs of the college, the Whatcom (county) Choral Society and the Whatcom Orchestra.  The soprano for our performance was Heidi Lynn Grant...after she got married, she became Heidi Grant Murphy!!  She graduated from Western the year before when I transfered in as a junior and she and I actually had a couple of classes together!  Anyway, I listened to the several recordings that the music library had and my favorite was this one:

It's conducted by James Levine and June Anderson is the soprano.  My sister bought me the CD for my birthday that year and it was the very first CD that I ever owned (and I still have it).  I started buying CDs very slowly and didn't actually get my own CD player until 1990!

Thanks to those who gave tips re: healing.

I don't know if i'd really call it a scar. I mean It was just a big scratch (the cause of which i have no idea). But it seemed to make a big scab. And for some reason that scab fell off and is very red (i,e., it did not heal and go away).

I put some cream on it today and it felt a bit better.

My dear der Brucer, apparently you have been out of LA too long:  BRAIN DEAD TWITS - that's what the drivers are, period, end of story.  I have seen some of the stupidest, most ridiculous drivers ever on these little jaunts to Anaheim.

Next, I began watching a feature unique to the Blu-ray release It's called "The D-List" which replays the moment and stops to ask trivia questions about allusions to other Disney classics. If you get the answer right, it takes you off into a featurette about the classic Disney feature that ENCHANTED is being inspired by at that moment.

Thanks for the description, DR Matt H.!  For me, this kind of thing is the most compelling argument for upgrading equipment, besides the picture clarity, of course.

This actually sounds pretty normal to me.

I had a turkey, swiss and bacon sub with mayo from Subway the other day.  It was quite excellent, but the cookies from Subway were the real highlight of the take-out meal.

I think they get the dough for the cookies from Subway's central location, but they bake them fresh on the premises.
