With that rack, she'd be the titular head in most films.

Eavesdropping in movies is always good for a laugh....PILLOW TALK is built on it....

But my favorite eavesdropping moment in movies is in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE.

James Stewart calls Donna Reed and they have an intimate conversation and he tries to get her to say "I love you..."

Finally in MCU she says:  "I can't.  Mother's listening in upstairs."

We had NO idea this was happening.  There is a quick cut to mother upstairs with the phone in her hand:  "I am NOT!!"  And she slams down the receiver!

Put the Blame on Mamie

Joan Olander took her movie name from First Lady Mamie Eisenhower and then newsworthy Charles Van Doren.  8)

As you can tell from the picture in DR SINGDAW's post, she was a serious actress with Method training.

Good morning, everyone.

My tummy is STILL not behaving. Sigh. I had planned to do some tax work today. Do you think that has something to do with it??

I'm sure it can't help.

I'm sorry but not surprised your tummy is not behaving.  I find it takes a long, long time for mine to recover.

Well I just found COLLEGE CONFIDENTIAL on dvd for $9.99 + shpg.  Albert Zugsmith was a producer who understood Mamie's message.

Mamie had an inner ear problem that made her lose her balance a lot...at least that's what the media said.

Jeanne, I'm sorry your tummy still isn't feeling well. I do hope it has nothing to do with consuming any birthday candy that arrived via the mail!   :)

No relation to that, Amy. I had some food poisoning and it's just taking a very long time to completely clear my system.

The DH and I are going to a wine tasting event tonight - at a local synagogue.

Do you think they'll be serving Manischewitz?   ;)

Years ago, not long after we moved to New Jersey, Keith's boss had a work related party at his house.  Glasses of wine were served off of a nice silver tray.  Keith & I took a sip & looked up at each other with shocked expresses.  He asked me if it was Manischewitz to which I replied yes.  While chuckling we scanned the expressions of the other quests wondering if any of them knew what they were drinking.

Later I was in the kitchen talking to the hostess.  I never saw a single bottle of wine on display. ;D

You can send Ms. Malubay home when you pry her from my cold, dead hands!!! (Yeah, I know she's not the greatest singer, but she's still half the reason I'm tuning in to that show.) I say, send home cute but talentless David Archuleta.

Dang me if I don't wholly agree with you, dude.  Archuleta is a voice looking for some guidance.  I'm of the opinion that his rendition of "Imagine" a few weeks back was wholly a fluke (Simon called it "a vocal master class").  He hasn't been anywhere near that  level since.

I've read that his  father, Jay, is an overbearing "stage father" who  berates him from time to time.  I think it interesting that Simon last night said that he doubted David picked his song for himself because it  wasn't "him."  I think the show enjoys having the obligatory, weekly cutesy comments from David when he can do his "gosh-oh-gee" boyish laugh -- the pre-pubescents squeal in girlish delight each time, but it does smack of being in the same category as "Smile, Louise!"   He seriously pales in comparison to David Cook and Michael Johns.  In time, though, he may totally surpass them as a  vocalist.

Do you you prefer the original ending?

I think I prefer the original "Shakespearian" ending for the play, but the revised ending for the movie. Frankly, I think they made the right decision to re-film the movie's ending, because the original ending didn't work on film -- at least the way they shot it. Of course, I can only judge it from the surviving grainy B&W print they gave us, but it was wayyyyy too long and drawn out. Ironically, "Don't Feed the Plants" is probably the best song in the play! Just didn't work the way they filmed it, though.

I recommend listening to close personal friend of BK Frank Oz do the director's commentary track on the "cut ending," if you're lucky enough to find that now-rare DVD.
