PORTLAND, HERE I COME!

Well, you've read the notes, you know I'm on my way to Portland, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - actually, they'd better not come home right now because I'll be in Portland and who will let them in?

Yes, I would have to say that Colin is, indeed, one of my favorite painters.  Although, I must admit that the guy who painted the third floor of our office was pretty HOT, too!

FALAFEL, baby, FALAFEL!

And now - Dino at the piano.

I shall now toddle off to the bedroom environment to get my beauty rest.

Indeed Happy Father's day to BK, TCB and JMK. (the regular "Father" posters).
Father's Day in Oz is celebrated on the first Sunday in September.

Good morning, all!  I had a very good DARLING OF THE DAY meeting yesterday, which really should have happened a month ago, but my surgery was a great reason for it's not happening so I can't complain.  So, Happy Father's Day to my Dad and to all you Father's and their Fathers out there.

Today, a BABES IN TOYLAND and Penn Station day:  I have to pick up my train tickets to DC for June 29 this morning, then hit the recording office and work on a couple of scores.  This afternoon and evening, I have to tackle the cello book for GOLDEN APPLE.

TOD:  Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel ceiling.

Indeed, a happy Father's Day to all the daddys in these parts (and others).

In conjunction with this, it should be noted that this is also National Martini Day!

Today is also Juneteenth!

(Combining this with Father's Day, I can't help thinking of John Amos.)

Some of my favorite artists who I met during our thirty plus years our family art gallery has been open.

Ted Harrison an Englishman who found his Shangra-La in the Yukon and painted the Canadian territory in vivid colors

Leonard Creo an ex-pat American who found his Shangra-la in a small English town near the border of Wales. He has been painting for over 50 years and is champion race walker at the age of 82!

Canadian Toller Cranston for his use of color and stylistic figures.

One of the first artist I ever met as a child his art work includes painting, prints and banners. He even painted a piece for my Bar Mitzvah and signed it to me. Although the painting below is not that piece

Good morning and happy Dad's day to all you daddies out there!

Only 9 1/2 hours until the I meet Mr. Bruce Kimmel in the flesh.

DR George are you going to the gathering tonight or the reading on Monday...or both?

I am also looking quite forward to finally meeting DRs TCB and Jed, who I believe are planning to be at Monday's reading...I do wish DR Ann would come too as I would very much enjoy meeting her!

Happy Birthday to all the dads and folks acting in dad, granddad, and other male mentoring roles.

And for those of us who haven't yet bought gifts, here's a thoughtful gift suggestion Sandra found in Wal-mart:

Thank you to all who sent good thoughts regarding my ordeal yesterday afternoon. The place where I first thought I might have a problem was where the freeway passes through the Indian reservation, and there was  no place (literally) to exit the freeway. The nearest exit was several miles away. AAA has always been great about coming to rescue me.

In re DR Ron's discussion last night of THE PURPLE ROSE OF CAIRO:

For many years, it ranked as my favorite Woody Allen movie, and I still adore it. I also think ANOTHER WOMAN is one of his most neglected works since it's more drama than comedy.

These days, in addition to ANNIE HALL and MANHATTAN, I kind of think CRIMES AND MISDEMEANORS is his zenith, but PURPLE ROSE, ZELIG, RADIO DAYS, and even SHADOWS AND FOG (which I grow fonder of every time I watch it) make terrific viewing.

I have to admit that I have every one of his films on DVD.

Here is my favorite modern art painting. The artist is local to Phoenix and simply known as "Ruby."

I like all the old masters of the Renaissance: Michaelangelo, Da Vinci, etc.

Picasso, Degas, Rembrandt. I have very eclectic tastes in art.

I have confirmed plans with my brother to install his home theater equipment on Tuesday, so I have that mammoth chore ahead of me. I do think he's placing the speakers and wiring them ahead of time before I get there. That will save quite a bit of time.

Even though his receiver can accept 7 speakers (and the sub), his wife is ONLY allowing him to place five speakers in the room where the home theater will be! Sometimes, wives just don't understand us males' NEED for loudness!

As I mentioned last night, on my movie docket today are ADVISE AND CONSENT (DVD) and LOST IN THE STARS (DVR).

I also pulled David Mamet's HEIST off the shelf. I watched it a year or two ago, but I have NO memory of it at all. If there is time today, I will re-visit it.

I am a fan of Allen's Interiors. I haven't like anything of his or probably seen anything since Bullets Over Broadway.

From what I've read in that marvelous interview book Allen did with a (Swedish?) journalist, Maureen O'Sullivan was just not up to doing the mother part justice, and that Elaine Stritch's performance puts O'Sullivan's to shame.

As for Allen's later works, there are two that I'm VERY fond of: SMALL TIME CROOKS and DECONSTRUCTING HARRY. But they still can't compete with his best from earlier decades.

I forgot that I saw Small Time Crooks. I didn't like it. It started off well, but after they got the money the film fell apart in my opinion.
