Oh dear, this is sad news. I knew Marvin's wife, Terre, and through her got to know Marvin slightly. We would exchange Christmas cards every year for a while.
Tuesday. Last night's rehearsal was very good......maybe I like some of this show after all.

Mike - i shared that "This is Your Life, Alexis Smith" link with some friends and with the folks on castrecl, but I mentioned in that castrecl post that I thanked you for having being the one who spread it into our circle. Many thanks again. What a special find!

Obituary (http://www.thewrap.com/movies/column-post/marvin-hamlisch-oscar-winning-composer-dies-68-50971)
It's Tuesday.
Vixdad is intending on bringing all sorts of electronic devices - cameras, computers, ipods, minature helicopters ... I suggested he should go to the airport now and perhaps he would be through by next Saturday
I am about to dance in the street! As soon as Edith gets done addressing the envelope and I get to the post office, our last major project that was delayed due to my accident will be in the mail and out of the office. Nothing was late and no one's case was hurt in any way. It was a pain in the butt to catch up, but we have. Lots of work and lots of cases still to work on, but that cloud and the stress of knowing these things were out there is gone. Tra la tra la!!!
And of course Mr Hamlisch was the pianist in the New York rehearsal scene in Valley of the Dolls.Funny, but none of the obits I've read so far has mentioned that nugget of information. (And Richard Dreyfuss is a bellboy or something odd in a uniform paging Keely.)
How did I not know that there was a remake of ICE CASTLES?
DR John G, "It didn't seem like YA to me, either. But I loved it. It moved me to tears several times, although that could be my mother's history, which played a big part of what I brought to the reading. Her grandparents on her mother's side died in concentration camps for trying to help Jews escape on the trains, for which my great-grandfather worked."They set an example to live up to.
This gave me chills. Wow! You must be very proud to have such brave grandparents.
Cilla I agree THE BOOK THIEF doesn't seem like a YA book, which is what the author's YA publisher in Australia thought when he/she took the book to the adult division for them to publish.Yet my 13-year-old nephew was assigned the book in middle school or junior high or whatever they're calling it. It was his recommendation, by way of my sister, that got me to read it. And my mom, too, though I haven't remembered to ask her what she thought of it.
Yes Mr Dreyfuss was in VOD as the stage manager of Love Me, Darling who is sent to retrieve NEELY from her dressing room....Neely, Keely. I'm off my dolls. ;D

Jrand - My dad seems to feel it's always helpful to be pessimistic.
That way, if all goes wrong, you can say I told you so.
And if all goes right, you can say I am so happy that I was proven wrong and that WE all pulled through and did a great job.
It's win-win. And my dad is over 90 and still sharp as a tack.

Loved so much of Marvin Hamlisch's work as well.
Good morning. We had no phone or internet service yesterday. Thieves stole part of the cable again, this time practically in the back yard of our friend's down the road. The 100' of cable is worth about $50 on the street and cost Century Link around $10,000 to repair.
Tuesday morning greetings! Lunch with the grantwriters today - it was at their August meeting 2 years ago that I had my heart attack. I will try not to do an encore.

Vibes to all. Hoping that DR Elmore elevator/AC woes are taken care of TODAY.
Have a wonder filled day!

Judith Crist has died. I met her a few times more than 25 years ago, including once a riverboat cruise on the Hudson. Nice woman. I always enjoyed her reviews. She wasn't Pauline Kael, but she was herself.

Cable theft is a major problem in the UK as well, especially from railway lines, which causes massive disruption to train services.
It was a great evening. Just a few hours on the Hudson River on a Saturday night. Maxine Sullivan and two other local singers whose names have flown out of my head staged what was called "Last of the Red-Hot Mamas." They sang to a local backup band and you watched the sunset with wine, talked and just enjoyed life. They did it twice, before Sullivan's death. It drew people from all over the region, including Crist. It was a nice fundraiser for our arts council. And of course Mr Hamlisch was the pianist in the New York rehearsal scene in Valley of the Dolls.Funny, but none of the obits I've read so far has mentioned that nugget of information. I still miss her reviews. I wish I had been on that cruise with you.

About two months ago, the local authorities caught a husband and wife team red-handed as they were ripping away copper cabling from a train station on the line I ride to work every day. If fact, they were ready to go to work on the overhead cantilever wiring, which would have shut down the train line for days.
NASA had better keep a vigilent eye on that 1909 penny that's aboard the Curiosity Mars rover...

DR Cillaliz, here's a Groupon I received today for the Hotel Wales (http://www.groupon.com/deals/ga-hotel-wales?utm_medium=email&utm_source=channel_getaways-deals&sid=11231530&user=5a563bad1c34688569776e71a6a13831e01ab6e77f1de62f061fdcf71e7cc700&utm_campaign=11231530&s=body&d=ga-hotel-wales&p=2&c=deal_button). Of course, since it's on the Upper East Side, DR Elmore probably won't visit you there ;)
NYC is beautiful all decked out for Christmas. Richard and I were there from Dec. 25, 1982 to Jan. 1, 1983, and had a fabulous time. That's when we saw 8 shows in 6 days, including SNOOPY! with DR Elmore.

Dress rehearsal already?? It seems like MILLIE auditions were just last week!
Craig is out for a late goodbye lunch with a friend. I suppose when he returns he will attempt to load up his car. He thought he might rent one of these for the trip but it didn't happen.

I have never seen one like that before.
I feel very sorry for the coach of the American Volleyball Team. Although he continually refuses to talk about the murder of his in-laws four years ago; NBC just won't leave the subject alone.

After carting so much across the country & paying for storage most of it will be left here or given away. We have had a beautiful roll top desk in our garage for almost 14 years. It too will be given away. The local Hospice store have have first option on everything. Goodwill will get the rest.
What he is keeping & won't fit in his SUV, after the pets, their supplies, and a few clothes for Craig, we will mail to him or save here.
What a pain moving is.

How did I not know that there was a remake of ICE CASTLES?
My Weather Bug tells me that it is currently 65 degrees in Tacoma. Although two weeks ago I would have bitched that it didn't seem much like summer; the two 96 degree days have convinced me to keep my mouth shut!
I feel very sorry for the coach of the American Volleyball Team. Although he continually refuses to talk about the murder of his in-laws four years ago; NBC just won't leave the subject alone.

I'm sure that the "live" wallpaper doesn't help either. It's a picture of a koi pond with swimming fish and you can touch the pond and have ripples on the water. It never stops moving.
Hi, DR DakotaCelt, we've missed you!
There's another one I don't know. They're coming out of the woodwork!
How did I not know that there was a remake of ICE CASTLES?
Not as good as the original...
Note to DR Elmore:
I, unlike the landlord, have finally gotten off the dime and am starting to make the SHOW BOAT transfers. If the dual layer discs don't work, then thehellwithem, I'll use single layer and the films will be spread across two discs each instead of one.
I'll be starting with the Criterion 1936, just the movie itself straight through, then I'll be checking with you as to what extras you want. I'll view them first so I know what I'm talking about. First question is: Do you want the Miles Kreuger commentary?

There had been talk of Marvin Hamlisch working with the Bergmans on a rewrite of Ballroom. Does anybody know whatever happened to that?
