I have that very same video of I Do! I Do! It's been quite a while since I've watched it. That'll be what's in one of my VCRs. In another of my VCRs (I actually have three), is a tape to tape tonight's episode of "Battlestar Galactica." My niece, who has never seen an episode, wants to watch it because she used to love "Xena: Princess Warrior" and Lucy Lawless (who played Xena) will guest starring on "Battlestar Galactica" tonight.

In my CD player at work will be: the original cast recordings of Stages and Together Again, "Harvey Schmidt Plays Jones & Schmidt" and Kevin Spirtas' CD single of "The Sweetest of Nights and the Finest of Days," which I just received in the mail yesterday!

In my DVD player: "Bent" from Netflix...and something that's on its way. I'll see what it is when I get it. I forget what was I was getting next.

Last night, I watched an Italian/Swiss film, Bread and Tulips, and I really enjoyed it more than I expected. Lucia Maglietta was nice in it. I’ll try to watch other films of her and of Silvio Soldini, the director of Bread and Tulips.

Good morning all (Larry and me at the moment).

The good news is Barrymore's will be open in October. The bad news is the rumor is true. Everything west of the Imperial Theatre from 45th to 46th Street will come down to build a Disney Hotel and Theatre. That includes Sam's and Puelo's, Puelo's II and Frankie and Johnny's Steakhouse, the deli on 8th Avenue, other little stores and the parking lot.

It's going to take quite a while but we asked our Barrymore's waiter last night and he confirmed that the site has been sold. The restaurant's lease isn't up until February of 2006 and they don't know what will happen after that date. JR's Restaurant on 46th Street is already closed and Disney is buying the rest of the property, piece by piece including everything on 8th Avenue. Although the restaurant will probably close in 2006 the complex probably won't be up and running for another couple of years.

We saw The Pillowman last night. There are problems with the second act (and the opening of the first act) but, overall, it's excellent. The show is macabre and funny and gruesome at the same time. Billy Crudup and Michael Stuhlbarg (especially MS) are very, very good as brothers in a prison in some unnamed totalitarian state. The show would benefit from some trimming. Cut the intermission and re-shape the show. The second act drags (IMHO) and it would be even more powerful if the excess was cut and we got it all without a break. Zeljko Ivanek plays the "bad" cop. He seems to have morphed into playing unpleasant characters. He was a crooked politician on Oz and he's done many other roles since his breakout in Mass Appeal, oh, so many years ago. He was quite good and made the transition from early brutish behavior to his end scene believable. I wasn't, however, so impressed with Jeff Goldblum. He was OK but (maybe because it's near the end of the run, it closes next Sunday Sept. 18) I didn't see any flashes of brilliance. At times he seemed to be walking through the show. As I said earlier, Michael Stuhlbarg as the brother was a standout. After finally seeing his performance, I think he should have won the Tony over Liev Schreiber.

I think I'm seeing my dear friend Robert Kimball today on Chicago Humanities Festival matters. Hopefully, we'll have a bit of lunch, a bit of gossip, and I'll get a lot of work done.

I, too, have company this weekend. A former intern of the New York State Theatre Institute who's now on film studies at SUNY Purchaqse is coming to vist for the weekend. I haven't seen him in four years, although we've been in touch irregularly, and my mission for the past month has been to track him down. It wasn't easy, as DRs MBarnum, Rodzinski, Jose, and Jane can attest.

How Now, Dow Jones, OBC of Candide, OBC of Camelot, OBC of Bye, Bye Birdie, the 1962 Off-Broadway revival of Anything Goes with Eileen Rodgers and Hal Linden, OBC of Follies, Original Cast Recording of Forever Plaid, A Wrinkle in Swingtime (Elena Bennet and Fred Barton) and Isn't It Romantic (Michael Feinstein).

I've done all my weekly radio listening (including Donald's Elaine Paige show) so I'm off to the CDs.

Besides Dude[/i] one of the authors, Galt MacDermot, was also involved in another big flop in 1972.

Via Galactica, which ran at the then Uris Theatre from November 6, 1972 (first preview) to December 2, 1972. It opened on November 28th after 15 previews and ran for a grand total of 7 performances, closing on December 2. It was set 1000 years in the future in 2972.
