I never discuss politics. I am too stupid.

And I don't say that so that anyone will say: Oh, no, you are not.

It's true. I am.

Perhaps, when it comes to politics, you should say you are too intelligent.   :)

I live under a rock. A nice quiet rock. I come out once in a while and look around, then I go back.

Would it be, perhaps, the Rock of Ages?

Political talk almost always generates hurt feelings which is why you will rarely see me engage in any of it.

I began my afternoon watching Thursday night's SUPERNATURAL. Such a wonderful episode. This business with the angel is reallya fabulous tangent that the show is veering into, and I'm loving every second of it.

Next, I watched Ozu's AN AUTUMN AFTERNOON. What a sedate, lovely film filled with intense feelings so internalized as to be almost wrenching. That image of the father after his daughter's wedding was absolutely heartbreaking. Never having had a child, I can't say that this is what many fathers feel when their children grow up and go out on their own, but certainly it must represent SOME parents. Such depth in such a spare, uncluttered style!

Good Afternoon!

Well, we ended up ending about an hour earlier than scheduled, so... -But at least I get to bill for the remaining scheduled hour. Anyhoo...

It was quite a good day. No real clunkers, and all of the young women who came in today were well prepared and most of them somehow managed to learn a brand new song from a brand new show without the aid of any type of recording.  Quite impressive.

*However, as some of these young women - meaning ten year old girls -walked into the room and presented themselves, I found myself asking myself, "Was I ever that adult when I was ten years old?"

The picture quality is very, very good, bk. There is natural film grain, but color is very true, and it's nice and sharp. There is some strobing that momentarily distracts, and there's some judder on the soundtrack, too, but none of it detracts from the effect of the piece as a whole.

Next, I listened to the commentary track done by Ozu scholar David Bordwell. It's a well researched and thoughtful analysis of the film and its place among Ozu's other classics. Very interesting to watch the film again with his thoughts and not having to read the subtitles since one already knows the story well.

Alas, they covered up the windows in the rehearsal studios at Manhattan Theatre Club sometime in the past two(?) years, so all the light in the rooms comes from a plethora of fluorescent lights.  Consequently, I now have a bit of a headache, so I'm taking a little breather in the eighth floor lobby of the Marriott Marquis. Even though it's drizzling outside right now, there's still some natural light coming in through the atrium.  Ah...

There is a 14 minute excerpt from a 1978 French TV show interviewing two film scholars about Ozu's films. That and two theatrical trailers are the only other bonuses on the disc (with the commentary, of course).

There's the usual booklet (29 pages) with a couple of articles.

Is this the last season of NUMBERS?  I guess I missed you saying that you had that to review.  I love that show.

Oh... I walked by the theatre where Equus is playing and noticed that they had a TV monitor set up in the lobby. At first I thought they were showing the commercial for the play, but it turned out to be the ticket price listing... Which is broken down section by section and day by day for the coming week, as well as the upcoming Holiday period. Talk about pricing according to supply and demand - it's practically different each day of the week.

I would certainly question it, if they told me my EQUUS ticket was a partial view!

TCB - Regarding EQUUS,  "Mr. Griffiths can be seen from all seats in the theater."
