And the word of the day is: THEW!
re: the figure skating
I am really surprised that NBC does not put the entire skating on one of its sister stations. What is up with that?
Here CTV (that main station) had to show the US/Canada women's hockey final. But TSN had every single skater (not that most of the lower ranked people were that interesting). But still figure skating is very popular in the US. I wonder if people complained if they would do anything.
Read the skating results on-line this morning and I'm anxious to see them for myself. Sounds like it was a good night, and I'll be curious to see if my opinions match the judges' final tabulations.

DR Jennifer - Simple: $$$ It's just not cost-effective for them to devote that sizable a chunk of prime-advertising and revenue time to an essentially "niche" sport and audience. They show who the people know, want to see. -Which, of course, is "controlled" by them in the first place more or less.

It's not cost effective to show it on one of their sister stations? Do those stations not show any olympics? I do get why NBC doesn't show it. They have lots of stuff to show.
I was not happy about one of the contestants voted off IDOL last night. I was fine with 3 of them. But i was very sad about Jannell. Not that she was great on tues. But i thought she did really well in hollywood. I remember her group number and one of her solos. She was one of my favorites. :(
Something tells me that DRs MBarnum and JMK may like that clip/video. ;)
Oooh!!!
"The first-ever film version of Lewis Carroll's tale has recently been restored by the BFI National Archive from severely damaged materials. Made just 37 years after Lewis Carroll wrote his novel and eight years after the birth of cinema, the adaptation was directed by Cecil Hepworth and Percy Stow, and was based on Sir John Tenniel's original illustrations. In an act that was to echo more than 100 years later, Hepworth cast his wife as the Red Queen, and he himself appears as the Frog Footman. Even the Cheshire cat is played by a family pet.
With a running time of just 12 minutes (8 of which survive), Alice in Wonderland was the longest film produced in England at that time. Film archivists have been able to restore the film's original colours for the first time in over 100 years."

I think NBC is still recovering from the special "All Olympics" package they offered during the Los Angeles Olympics. They had three channels covering ALL of the events, 24 hours a day. It was a special Cable/Pay deal. From what I recall, they didn't get as many subscribers as they thought they would. ??? -But I could be mis-remembering. Maybe DR MattH would know, remember how successful that was. In any case...
Women's Figure Skating is "popular". It's just not that popular.
I very much enjoy Mr Korbich singing on the EATING RAOUL cast album.
DR John G - I'll be down in Lexington next week for SETC (http://www.setc.org). I'm going to try to make a quick day trip to Louisville - I need my Galt House fix. ;)That sounds like fun. Interviewed some cocktail experts from Brown Foreman there yesterday who were talking about the snow there.
Dear John G., we need a photo of your bird, please.
If anyone can post instructions on posting a pic, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
New house KEY vibes for the DR JMK clan.
No drama in the film department vibes for DR CILLA LIZ.
Moving vibes for DR SAM!
My bird has discovered this week that he's an oatmeal fan. He's politely screaming in my ear right now for more.
So today I get to go listen to more talk about the printer. I made my decision last August. Sadly, it doesn't count. Someone else gets to decide (even though I am the only one to use it).

We visited the new house this morning to make sure the thermostats were turned down to an affordable level. They were. :)

I could use some shoulder vibes. During my early evening exercises yesterday I suddenly had terrible sharp/knife like shooting pains. The shooting pains stopped when I stopped the exercises. I'm still having more pain than usual & can't do my exercises as the sharp pain begins again. Can't might not be the correct word, I'm certainly concerned if I should. I hope the therapist can help me today & that he isn't concerned.

Are you cheering for the villains or the heroes? For some reason since my favorite player is on the villains (boston rob) i find myself cheering for them!
DR Jane, my throat feels a tad better, but a lot of coughing. I stayed home from work today and am hoping that I feel good enough to babysit little Cole tonight for my neice and her husband. I think that if I take a couple of naps I will be fine.

I told a friend of mine that another friend was pleased to have met him. He laughed and said "That's surprising, there are throngs of people who are NOT pleased to meet me."
Hopefully the Drunk Duane problem has now been solved.
I got a surprise today.
I filed my taxes on January 31st (filed electronically) I just got a letter from the IRS telling me that they found a credit I neglected to take. They figured out the tax for me and increased my refund.
This is a new credit, one that I hadn't even heard of, called the Making Work Pay Tax Credit. It's temporary and it adds $400 to my refund. I never heard of it but I looked over my taxes again and it's OK with me so I get more money than I planned on getting. I thought when I saw the letter I had made a mistake and would need to file an amended return. Lucky me, it's not that at all!
Hopefully the Drunk Duane problem has now been solved.I'm glad you finally took action :)
It's stupid and petty. He was not threatening me. He just wouldn't quit calling.
Yu-Na skated a majestic and difficult program, but I still don't quite see the magic. Maybe I'll get it after I've watched it a few more times. She's effortless and beautiful, but I don't get the same thrill I got when watching Michelle Kwan at her best.
I had asked a while ago if anyone watched the Jada Pinkett Smith show HAWTHORNE. I didn't expect to, but i love this show. I can't believe how likeable she is. And it also features ALIAS alum Michael Vartan, who i also love on the show!
So Carley Simon has fessed up that David Geffen was the actual inspiration for "You're So Vain". That revelation was incredibly disappointing...
Beautiful bird photos -- both John's bird and Jane's ring-neck ducks. Ring-necks are common out here in the winter. They'll be leaving soon.
What kind of bird do you have, John?
That's a great picture of the eagle, John!
Well, it's apparently - wait for it - an AOL server problem. And when one goes directly to AOL.com and tries to log in to one's various accounts, one gets an error message saying they are having a technical issue. It's been happening repeatedly for the last three weeks - if I didn't have four of these accounts (which I don't pay for) and could switch all this over to gmail, I would. But it's too much work and too hard.

At Michelle's best in the Olympics? I find I enjoy many of the skaters more once they have matured some, even if they don't jump as high.
CNBC and MSNBC are both showing Olympics during part of their broadcast days (or they were; I haven't checked in a couple of days), but I was VERY disappointed that NBC didn't at least show the next-to-top tier of girls. The girl from Switzerland who inched out Rachael Flatt for 6th was in that flight, and I would like to have had a chance to compare their long programs.

Will you be able to see any of the second tier of skaters online? I find that crazy that you only got to see the last group and not hte 2nd to last.
Pretty.
There's something I'll never see on my house.
Pretty boy!
