NetFlix doesn't have OUR MAN IN HAVANA.  They do have a wonderful movie, we watched last night, THE MIGHTY.  It is a sweet and delightful story of two unusual boys, well played by Elden Henson and Kieran Culkin, who develop an unusual friendship.  In some ways it is similar to SIMON BIRCH only far superior, IMHO.

Vixmom, it is a good family film.

Did you read A PRAYER FOR OWEN MEANEY?  SIMON BIRCH was "inspired" by it (or something like that) it's the whole story and much better than the movie

I am officially addicted to Craig's List.  Who the hell is Craig, anyway, and how does he have the time for this list?  ;)

I agree, although I did very much enjoy Simon Birch in spite of the many differences between the two.  But I love Owen Meaney.  Rodzinski just read it after many years of my begging him to.

Good Evening!

I made great time back from the theatre tonight.  I was parked outside my parents' house by 10:20.  Not bad. -Keep in mind, we had a 7:30 curtain tonight - I wasn't driving that fast.  ;) *It also helps that most of the trip home is via highway.

-And a good show.  Another "smaller" audience, but very appreciative and vocal.  -However, once we hit this weekend, we're basically sold out again.  This week is always a hard sell with everyone heading back to work and back to school.

I did not have the evening of DVDs/TV that I was expecting at all.

My friend who stopped by for a drink stayed over two hours. We each had two glasses of wine, but I was aching to get to some TV after about an hour of dry conversation. Oh, well, the DVDs will keep for tomorrow.

I did watch a LAW & ORDER episode in high definition on TNT. Angie Harmon was still on the show, and it was a great case. I'm sure I must have seen it back in the day, but I had no memory of its conclusion and thoroughly enjoyed the episode.

Then, I watched this week's episode of THE CLOSER which was recorded on Tuesday evening. Another good show, but I'm wondering if the men who work on her team are ever going to accept her expertese with the job and cut her some slack. She's proven she can do great work, but most of them are still treating her like she's poison. Irritating. Maybe one by one they will each start to come around and recognize her as an asset.

Then I watched the CBS broadcast of CSI: NY. It was not one of the series' finest hours. Three cases (two of them related to each other) and none of them particuarly intriguing.

No, I won't say I've totally given up on CRIMINAL MINDS (have only seen one episode), but I'll probably watch the next one only if there is nothing else going on when it's broadcast, and, of course, once BONES moves to the 9 p.m. hour, that will give me LOST and VERONICA MARS in that time slot, too.

Just finished watching the first disc of Season One of "The Greatest American Hero." It makes me laugh, though not as hard as I remembered laughing as a kid... But, gosh! Connie Selleca was a looker!

What is this "Owen Meaney" book? I loved "Simon Birch" - how could I not know about it's source material??

Has it been mentioned that BK's very own Kevin Spirtas will be playing the role of Corny Collins in the Las Vegas company of HAIRSPRAY? If not, it has now!!

Well even though she does great work she does have a certain "attitude" and I suppose I could see why the men dislike her.

It is interesting to see their reactions to her.  They definitely develop! :)

Here's an Amazon Link - It's a John Irving novel and a favorite of many in my family.   It's another book I haven't read in awhile and maybe should re-read this year.  There is a lot more to it than Simon Birch - plus you will understand some of the props that appear in Simon Birch but aren't discussed or explained.

I haven't seen THUNDERBIRDS 6....I guess it's available on video.  I am still intrigued by Captain Scarlet....  And of course FIREBALL XL-5 had a fab and groovy theme song!

And Nick Dalton - who DR Ant did Forum with, and with whom DR Jason has worked - is the "cover" for both Corny Collins and Link.  -And it's because got cast in the Vegas company of Hairspray that I'm getting "my" apartment back!

Okay....hmmm.....I think I will finish THE NUN'S STORY.....started it last week and didn't finish.

And as MR BK says there are LOTS of DVD's coming out in the next couple of weeks.  I have preordered the SUPERMAN SEASON TWO, two AIP double features, and a Roger Corman in Puerto Rico triple pak!

Craig's List?

www.craigslist.org

Sort of like your local classified section and personals on the web.  It's city-based, and it's popularity has literally sky-rocketed over the past couple of years.  And it's still free.  Very bare-bones, but useful.  Tons of New York City sublets on there.

If you're going to work in a "company" of a show, I would guess the Vegas company would be a fascinating one to do....

from IMDB

Trivia for
Simon Birch (1998)

John Irving himself provided the name Simon Birch for the producers to use in place of Owen Meaney.

Author John Irving doubted his novel, "A Prayer for Owen Meaney", could ever be turned into a film, and sold the screen rights on the condition it not be released under the same name as his book.

Audrey is calling me....Audrey is calling me.

How is the Gnostics book, DRODZINSKI?  If I had known Matthew better, I might have asked him if Eleanor was his pride and joy, etc. :)

I think it started in San Francisco... Los Angeles - and it's still run from the guy's house/basement.  As it got more popular, other cities were added.  If you want your city added, you have to "petition" craigslist - and once they see that there is enough "business" in a particular city, then they will add it to their system.
