Well, you've read the notes, the notes were in the New Word, and now it is time for you to post until the New Word cows come home.
-
And the word of the day is: OREXIGENIC!
-
First post after BK!

~~~Back Feel Better Quickly Vibes for BK!!~~~
-
Well, tonight's going to be a night! I'm working concessions for a concert with Stephen Stills and Judy Collins (https://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/stillscollins-1810/)! Sadly, I won't get to see the whole thing, but I should be able to see most of it. I guess it's been sold out for quite a while. I'm sure that it'll be a great concert!
-
50 years ago, singer-songwriter Stephen Stills met singer-songwriter Judy Collins, known for her piercing ocean blue eyes. Their tumultuous love affair would later be immortalized by Stills with his composition “Suite: Judy Blue Eyes,” performed by Crosby, Stills & Nash on their landmark debut. Both artists would go on to shape modern music with visionary approaches, but Stills and Collins’ short fiery union remains a transformative era for the two artists.
Now the two icons of folk will celebrate the golden anniversary of their formative time together. Their joint tour marks the first time ever Stills and Collins have been onstage together. For this once in a lifetime experience, the two music legends will pull from their rich catalogs, debut songs from their duet album, and share warm and intimate stories from their journeys and the 1960s folk and Laurel Canyon scenes they helped build.
-
And on Thursday, I'm working concessions again for a concert by Olympia's own Shoshana Bean (https://www.washingtoncenter.org/event/shoshana-1810/)! This concert is not sold out, but fairly full.
-
Shoshana Bean’s powerhouse vocals are visceral and heartfelt and have earned her numerous Broadway credits, including Elphaba in Wicked, and Fanny Brice in Funny Girl. She navigates effortlessly through a variety of styles, from haunting originals to new arrangements of contemporary hits, and beloved classics. Join us as we kick off our 2018-19 season with an evening of Shoshana’s fresh and soulful spins on the beloved classic American songbook, alongside a collection of her original works from her 2018 album, Spectrum.
And now, to bed.
Have a good day, all!
-
Good morning, all!
-
I didn't sleep well, but Thatch stayed with me all night. Annabelle has her new empty cat food carton, and she seems reluctant to leave it.
-
I must drag out the Big Ladder and change the kitchen ceiling lamp today. I hate it.
-
Joshie does not need me at City Center this week, which is sad since I was hoping I might have some work. I'll see him on Friday at the orchestra reading.
-
Good morning!
Wow! I am very jealous!! Enjoy!!
Don't you have a neighbor who could help withyourlightbulb replacement? I am concerned about you balancing on a ladder with two curious kitties in the place. Maybe put them in the bathroom to keep them from being underfoot?
They only seem curious about my being in the kitchen when I open the refrigerator door.
Good morning, all.
Safe lightbulb changing vibes for DR Elmore.
George I also suggested the high weight loss theory.
Ditto!
TOD
I can name my three earliest known classical conductors:
Stokowski, from my having seen FANTASIA at an early age.
Bernstein, likely due to his television work, though I'd have to look up dates to see where all of that falls.
Emerson Buckley, as conductor of the local (Fort Lauderdale) symphony.
We had some classical records in the house but they weren't bought because of any conductor. By the time I was buying my own records, Ormandy, Reiner, Leinsdorf and Fiedler were my known ones. I don't think I was much aware of Szell before heading up to school in Cleveland. Also, Isidore Godfrey from D'Oyly Carte recordings. He was just a name, but I was aware. :)
As for popular music or Broadway, I don't really have a clue from my early years. Maybe someone will jog my memory in that department.
-
I need to get moving for an early walk with my walking partner. Since we are stopping at our local coffee place I want to mix up some chocolate to put into a mug of steamed milk.
-
TOD:
Leonard Bernstein - he was always on television talking and demonstrating things....
And in movie musicals there were stage scenes when there was a conductor waving a baton around - I thought that was interesting. I would sometimes get a small stick and conduct a recording of Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.....I was wonderful.
-
Vibes of all kinds for DR JANE!
-
Vibes for MR BK - rehearsal, losing weight, feeling better.....
-
That should be some concert DR GEORGE! Have fun.
When I was in grade school between 1951 and 1957, I remember a field trip to an afternoon children's concert with the Cincinnati Symphony conducted by Max Rudolf. When I was in college, I sang in the chorus of Händel's Messiah that he conducted. He was a wonderful man. Then came Bernstein and his TV programs, and I guess my first knowledge of a show conductor was Franz Allers, from the recordings of My Fair Lady and Camelot and a fantastic Merry Widow. By the time I was in college, Allers was conducting the Lincoln Center productions, including their recordings of Merry Widow, Show Boat, etc., produced by Richard Rodgers. After that, he recorded some classic German operettas in German for EMI.
-
!! 2 !!
-
I still have Max Rudolf's book "The Grammar of Conducting", bought in my first year at school. Just took it off the shelf and it looks as great as ever. What I didn't remember is that it has a foreword by George Szell.
DR Elmore has indeed jogged my memory re Broadway. I remember getting to know the name Franz Allers - definitely from the Lincoln Center recordings, and possibly the earlier ones. For me, back then, he was "one of those names" that became familiar -- even if I didn't really know exactly what they did. Like Albert Sirmay. And Trude Rittmann.
-
I've not remembered a lot of dreams lately, but last night I dreamed that I was working on a revival of Threepenny Opera at the Theater de Lys. The musical director playing piano, harmonium, and celesta, was our DR ChasSmith. I remember little of the dream now except the trombonist could not find his music for "The Ballad of Dependency," and one of the saxophone players was a woman.
Vibes of all kinds for DR JANE!
Thanks. Each day, except for my Sunday set back, is a little bit better.
Thanks, Vixmom! I expect that I will!
That should be some concert DR GEORGE! Have fun.
Thanks, Jrand!
-
Great dream, DR Elmore. Wouldn't I love to do Threepenny someday. I never have, and what's odd is that I can't recall being aware that anyone has done it in my area since I've lived here.
Once again, this will make me get out my score and recordings. But where was somebody just talking about this recently? Must have been in one of the Facebook groups.
-
Sorry to have been E&T.
-
I guess it's been a slow news day for everyone here.
Looks like Beto O'Rourke said some questionable things in a theater review in high school.
I don't think Keto ever was a theater critic.
Or that Keto even saw "Will Rogers Follies."
-
..."large breasts and tight buttocks....."
Do you suppose this was in the casting call listing?
-
I'm up, I'm up - nine hours of sleep finally. Very rough night with the back pain - was up at five for an hour. Now on the phone with Apple.
-
So, continuing. Back is still wonky but not horrible. We uninstalled the problem mailbox and reinstalled so that's now trying to load in the 56,000 e-mails - once that's done I'm gonna nuke some stuff the HELL out of there. I only have two-and-a-half hours before I have to leave, which is a little nutty.
-
Tonight, my colleague on How to Succeed . . . and some friends are taking me to dinner for my birthday. I'll return later.
-
So, continuing. Mail is still doing its thing with now 100,000 messages - have no idea what that's about other than each mailbox has its requisite number of e-mails - maybe it's all the saved stuff or maybe it's the server. But happily the main account on AOL is now synching again with the phone, so that's good.
-
Time Machine back-up still isn't working - clearly something amiss and we did the thing where I sent them all the files concerning Time Machine and things that might be getting in the way of the back-ups.
-
That was very slow.
-
That was even slower.
-
That was fast.
-
Have fun.
Bruce, what a pain.
Who’s got the pain?
orchestra and balcony....
Who’s got the pain?
Oy, , when I do the mambo
-
Well, time to leave and work concessions for the Stephen Stills & Judy Collins concert!
-
But before I do...
Be back later!
-
I am home and I am ready for bed. The dinner was delicious: mixed green salad, lobster ravioli, and an apple berry something with vanilla gelato.
-
George - It looks like you're 11 posts away from one heck of a milestone.
-
Good evening, all.
-
Home at last after another long, exhausting day (without the thousand dollars).
-
No matinee.
-
No Pinter play.
-
Not even a piece of Mahler.
-
I’ll drink to that.
-
And one for Mahler.
-
TOD:
Paul Gemignani
Leonard Bernstein
Arthur Fielder
-
Watching the end of On Chesil Beach. Surprisingly excellent.
-
Hope George is having fun at the concert.
-
Will Stephen sing Suite Judy Blue Eyes for her?
-
He's just got to.
-
I'm too tired to continue these posts.
-
Good night, all.
-
Re conductors: Both times I saw "Urban Cowboy," I was impressed by what Jason Robert Brown added as a conductor. I don't know if he loved all the songs, but from his commitment, you'd have thought he loved bringing us the whole score. (I think only four of the sings were his songs.)
-
'night
-
Good evening.
-
Page 3? Are you f&^$ serious?
-
There is no way I can do this tonight.
-
This page was started at 5:34 p.m.
-
My iPad is the only option tonight.
-
If this starts acting up, I am out of here.
-
Last night was horrible.
-
George - It looks like you're 11 posts away from one heck of a milestone.
Ooo! I hadn't noticed!
-
First I turned off of my laptop.
-
Hi, Tom.
-
Page 4
-
Back from music rehearsal one, which was fun. Then I get home to find out the final gal we cast dropped out after one music rehearsal, saying she JUST found out that she'd lose her benefits from her day job and can't do it. This seems so fishy - she seemed to have a good time at the rehearsal and she knew the schedule, which doesn't involve any weekdays - unless her day job is sometimes a night job, which also makes no sense.
-
Then I shut off my TV.
-
I was just about to turn off the lights, when all Hell broke out.
-
Do you remember the scene in the James Bond movie when Oddjob reaches for his metal-reinforced derby and Bond electrifies it?
-
That was the scene in my bedroom.
-
Do you remember the scene in the James Bond movie when Oddjob reaches for his metal-reinforced derby and Bond electrifies it?
:o
-
That was the scene in my bedroom.
Is everything okay??
-
Suddenly, I have sparks flying out of the wall and the sounds of a major electrocution filling the room.
-
It seemed like it went on for thirty seconds, but it was probably closer to five seconds.
-
100!!
-
That is when the circuit breaker popped, and the room went dark.
-
Suddenly, I have sparks flying out of the wall and the sounds of a major electrocution fille the room.
Holy Crapballs!!
-
The blackout was good because I could see that the wall was not on fire.
-
Hope George is having fun at the concert.
I was! :D
-
It was a great concert!
-
This apartment is limited on wall plugs.
-
Because I worked concessions, I missed the first two songs, but only the first two songs.
-
Will Stephen sing Suite Judy Blue Eyes for her?
I can't specifically remember, but either he did or they sung it as a duet.
-
75,000!! :D
-
Most of the time I have used surge protectors to allow more things to be plugged in.
-
Here it is!
-
Well, in the bedroom I had this plastic thing that you plug into the wall plug, and it gets you five plugs instead of two.
-
That was the scene in my bedroom.
I don't mean to be a schoolmarm, but this is a family site. Whatever is going on in your bedroom really should be marked with an alert. (Seriously, glad you're now OK!!!)
-
Apparently this thing was a cheap piece of crap that decided to go out in a blaze of glory.
-
75,000!! :D
Congratulations, George!
-
Apparently this thing was a cheap piece of crap that decided to go out in a blaze of glory.
I've dated some of those in my youth also.
-
75,000!! :D
Congratulations, George!
Thanks, Fred!
-
Good night!
-
Anyway, more about the concert...it was just Stephen and Judy, a keyboardist/pianist, bass, and drums.
-
PAGE FIVE DANCE!
-
The concert had no intermission, so I assumed that it would be about an hour and a half.
-
But it was two hours and about 15 minutes long!
-
They talked in between each song and the completely filled audience loved it all.
-
Judy still sound pretty good, but Stephen definitely has lived a hard live, at least vocally.
-
So we're on the prowl for another actress.
-
He could stay on pitch and his guitar playing was fantastic, but his voice was shot.
-
So we're on the prowl for another actress.
Good luck, BK!
-
Congratulations, George.
-
My WIFI is starting to fade in the stretch.
-
Congratulations, George.
Thanks, Tom!
-
I can’t seem to post.
-
I can’t seem to post.
That's so weird. :-\
-
Well, it's one o'clock in the morning, and I'd like to get some sleep.
So I shall.
-
Good night, and have a good day, all!
