Well, you've read the notes, they couldn't take the notes away from you, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home - they'll be home soon and they can't take that away from them.

And the word of the day is:  PROLEPSIS!
A PROLEPSIS anticipates effects before they happen, rather like throwing a stone into a pond causes RIPPLES, SO I guess I don't have to throw this stone after all, because you should get the point.

Good morning, all! And a special one to DR S. Woody White! Why are we up? Much as I hate to say it, I think it's because we have to be.  Are you working today? I have a trek to Toyland to dig out LADY OF THE SLIPPER scores to continue the editing.

Last night, before dinner with our DR Jose, I had a lovely conversation with the head of the Institute about the project and other various subjects, all of which were interesting and promising. I think he was as puzzled as we all were over losing the potential new office but he seems happy - as are we all - that another space has come up.

BK, I hope things work out well with NYMF, but it's reccently come to my attention that each of their productions is required to raise its own funding. I thought that NYMF funded everything, so it shows one can work on three of their productions and remain clueless! I hope this potential producer has a nice bank account.  DR Jose and I went to a NYMF-produced reading recently and after the two readings, the money was lined up for the production.  It had great lyrics and music but it's book was in need of work.

TOD:  All I can think of is TOM JONES, mostly because its "silent film" opening sequence was no unique in 1964. It's still one of my favorite movies.  The BBC version with Max Beesly may be more faithful to Henry Fielding's comic novel, but a lot of the BBC production's look and casting choices reflect a big debt to Tony Richardson's film.

I spent part of the morning continuing to wade through the enormous number of special features on THE LAST MIMZY disc. For a single disc release, this thing is crammed to the top with bonuses, and it also offers DVD-ROM capabilities for more content on the web.

There is a reasonably lengthy featurette on almost every aspect of putting this sci-fi film for families together. (And that's not counting the Infinifilm features that you can turn on or off as you watch the movie.)

When I finished with THE LAST MIMZY. I put DAYLIGHT into the player, and was just about blown through the wall with the enormous sound FOR THE CREDITS! I didn't remember that at all, but I'm thinking when I restart the film later, I might have to lower the colume a bit for fear of blowing some speakers. Universal has this cranked WAY UP.

I've had THE MAN WHO LOVED WOMEN (Blake Edwards remake) on my to-watch DVD shelf for a couple of years now (bought used for a couple of dollars), but I noticed last night that Universal's HD Channel is now showing it in high def, so I got the DVR to capture it, and I'll probably watch it tonight after I finish DAYLIGHT.

I loved Julie Andrews in it, of course, and I remember Kim Basinger making a big splash at the time in this film. Haven't seen it since I saw it in the theater all those years ago.

Glad bk enjoyed THE SOPRANOS. I found some of the meditative stuff this season more interesting that the killings and mayhem, though I admit the murder he alluded to yesterday was one of THE highlights of the season unquestionably.

I also got fed up with AJ for much of the season (he's always been my least favorite Soprano), but I have to admit he did make me laugh with the way he could be SO manipulated by current trends and by the women he'd fall for.

BK ~ AND congrats on having The Brain invited to the festival. I saw on the fest's website that they got hundreds of scripts submitted for the open category, and only invited 18, so no telling how many were in the nominated/recommended category, so to be among the 12 invited from that category is an honor.

So way to go no matter what happens!!

Why do obviously extremely sick people come to public places department:  I am so angry at a croup-ridden lady who came to Gabe's swimteam the other morning.  She walked by me twice (even though I moved) and coughed all over me, and I am now sicker than a dog.  Oy.

I finally got around to listening to the 110 revival cast yesterday.  To say I was disappointed may be the understatement of this year.  What a waste!  Even Audra doesn't sound great, but the whole score is butchered IM(not so H)O.  This is probably my favorite early 60s musical score (my sister got to see it right before it closed in 1964 and brought the OCR back home when I was quite young, and I just fell in love with it), but this new recording is a travesty.  End of rant.

Watched some DVD extra that had BK's close personal friend Nick Redman on screen in an IV.  May I just say that BK's close personal friend Nick Redman is also very reminiscent of BK, appearance, if not voice, wise.  They could be brothers if you ask me.  I was also interested to see that said extras were produced by Trailer Park, which just happens to be where DS Betsy's brother works.

Our kitchen remodel starts next week.  Pray for Rosemary's Baby.  We're going out to buy our new fridge and range this morning.  Sears has a 12% cashback sale that ends today.  Growing up in a Sears family, I always default to Kenmore appliances.

Jane:  we'll be in Ashland on our return trip from the Bar Mitzvah.  I think we get there on August 17.  We have OSF tickets for Taming that night, but maybe we can see you, Keith and Sherlock sometime that day or Saturday morning, if you're in town.

It has been said "unfairly" that every time Ted is cast in a comedy series it is either cancelled or begins a downward spiral.  I have always enjoyed watching him, and just plain looking at him.

DBF listened to the cd and was very impressed also! He is a movie buff and remembers a lot of the sci fi movies of that era. You get a thumbs up from him also!

Well, we're also having our downstairs bathroom remodeled, too (but it's fairly minor--new floor and sink).

Forgot to mention in my 110 rant--also got the Nancy Drew set and watched the first one last night.  I have never seen such a bad print for such a supposedly "major" release (I know it's a niche set, but still).  Horrible vinegar syndrome in several places plus some really weird phasing distortions that I'm thinking came from them trying to combine different elements.  Still, a fun film.  I loved the kid playing Ted Nickerson.  I bet MBarnum knows all about him.  ;)

Off to spend several thousand dollars on appliances.  I told Betsy I think we're going to singlehandedly put the kibosh on the Fred Meyer Rewards card.  We're already up to over $600 cash back just on this quarter alone, and that will probably climb to at least $700 or $800 after today's purchases.  The fools changed the rules last month so that you get 1 point for every dollar (2 for every FM dollar spent) instead of for every 5 dollars.  So we just use the card for everything and pay off the balance every month.

No joke--I just saved a bunch switching our car insurance to Geico!!  Over $700 a year.  I'm impressed.  Hopefully it will go down even more once DS Betsy's speeding ticket drops off the radar (so to speak).  And this means when I sing "Remind Me" at my gigs I can actually say I'm a Geico customer!

I believe if you flip back a couple of days' posts you will read similar comments from me about this new 110.  I boil it all down to Little Red Hat - like many of the numbers, they change the feel so much (always, I'm sure, in the interest of being "different") it just becomes a travesty.  It happens over and over in this version, and, much as I love and adore Jonathan Tunick, his orchestrations are not a patch on the butt cheeks of Hershey Kay's originals.

There are some instances that revivals are good and other where they should never be done especially if the original still holds its own or unique bearing. REvivals often scare me.

The NYMF thing is a very long story that began last February when I was contacted by a person who told me he'd read the LA Times review and heard the CD and loved it.  This person alleged that he was a "producer."  We looked him up on the Internet and found he did have something to do with two shows at NYMF last year, although I don't think it was as a producer.  But, I sent him the script, and he loved it and said he was in and wanted to be involved.  I told him right then to submit it to NYMF and he told me he would.

Over the months I had few e-mails from him, some initiated by my queries, and a couple that emanated from him first.  His story changed a couple of times about WHEN he'd sent it to NYMF and it came to light he was in charge of merchandising for the Altar Boyz tour (read, he sold souvenirs).  I began to get a bad feeling about this yokel, and I asked Merrill Grant to send her friend at NYMF a CD and I asked elmore if he could find out anything.  But that was rather late in the game, and it was all very annoying to me.

I called Merrill last week to see if she could find out if they'd actually ever heard the CD, even though I pretty much knew too much time had gone by.  She got an e-mail from the head of NYMF implying they hadn't, and that the timing was good as a show had just fallen out.  I overnighted them a script and CD and reviews (we all know THAT story) and got an e-mail yesterday saying that people had liked it and asking if I was prepared to say yes.

I told them that I was prepared to say yes as long as I knew the details.  I've known all along that we would have to fund the production, and we'll have to deal with that immediately if it works out.  The dates they gave me are all okay, but I'm waiting to hear which venue it is (it has to work for the show or there's no point in doing it) exactly how much we have to raise, what we have to pay the actors and musicians, etc.  As soon as I have those details, then I have to have a few conversations, then I can give them an answer.  It would be great to do it, of course.  I'm supposed to have a phoner today, and hopefully that will happen and I can get the skinny or, at the very least, the fat.

Again, if it were to happen, there would be much work to do very quickly, including having to cast the show with mostly NY people, save for a handful of our LA folks.  And just as importantly, I'd have to find a NY musical director instantly, book the band, and most important of all, find either a general manager or a producer who will oversee everything.

What has Ted McGinley been blamed for in the past?  I've generally liked his performances.

ExACTly!  He has always delivered precisely what he was hired to deliver...and we often got more than that.

It's the curse of the "pretty face" that started out in a TV show (in McGinley's case, he was the photographer on "The Love Boat" when his star began to climb).

He was dead-on terrific in "Married With Kids" as the bimbo husband of a banker (played by Amanda Bearse), Al Bundy's next-door neighbor.

McGinley was terrific as the football captain jock asshole in "Revenge of the Nerds".

McGinley is a solid performer in all respects.

I totally agee, Ron, I said that he was unfairly blamed.  Everytime you see his name in a project, the doomsayers start proclaiming the death of that particular show.

I've been up since 7:45 a.m.  I had a light breakfast (banana), drove to my office to pick up my Deep Discount package that arrived yesterday, drove to a car wash and got "The Works" (everything inside and out except air freshener), went to one of my favorite neighborhood markets (Piedmont Grocery), and now I'm home and in shorts and enjoying the fruits of my labors from yesterday.

I worked my butt off yesterday, moving stuff out onto the balcony and rearranging furniture so I could steam clean my carpet.  It was an evolution of several hours, but I finally finished most of it (one section that I used to avoid all the other sections remains to be done, along with my bedroom).  As the carpet was drying out, I transferred 85% of my DVD collection of TV shows into an aluminum storage case.  To wit:  I removed said DVDs from their keep cases and put them into protective sleeves.  I removed liner art that was removable and will save it.

One of the drawbacks to TV series on DVD, however, is that you get special packaging that unfolds and reveals two DVDs per section...it's all cardboard and plastic.  Some of the packaging includes detailed information on each episode...and it's always part of the folded-out package.  The dilemma:  To save or to toss out.

The point of doing all this is to "save space"...to rid myself of space-consuming packaging.  Some of the DVDs are in packaging so splendid I cannot fathom throwing it out.  The other side of the dilemma is that if I ever wish to re-sell any of these -- or should my
"heirs" wish to do so -- there will be no original packaging to make the value significant (if, in fact, it would be).

I can, of course, save it all and put it in storage.  My DVDs will be with me...and all the re-sale material would be available should I need it.

Sigh.

I kept my DVD player going all afternoon....several emotional episodes of "Ghost Whisperer" from season 1, and an episode of "Touching Evil" that added some cool, detached mystery to the atmosphere.

Last night was, sadly, the series finale of "Stargate: SG-1".  The writers did not disappoint me.  It was a very nice, fitting ending to the TV series (and left the door open to possibilities for specials in the future...or...MOVIES).

And last night was the season finale to "Stargate: Atlantis"....and the season's opening promise was, after many unrelated episodes, fulfilled as the Stargate team found itself in a position to perish or to engage the city's star drive and head for the open universe.

Magical stuff, that.

I'm going to relish today.

I'm not knocking them, I just think it's sort of a rude surprise to say to writers, "We want to have your show in our festival so go rainse $15,000 or whatever.

Well, I guess I can say that we've been asked and it's ours if we want it.  I'm now trying to figure out the money end of it, and if it's feasable, we'll do it, as I think we'd get a LOT of publicity and a LOT of people to see it.

NYMF and the Fringe and this New Musicals Festival they're doing next year in LA are fascinating in that the shows themselves pay for everything (in LA, the venues pay) - in other words the people running the festival have nothing to lose.  Anyway, it would, most likely, be a good thing.  I'm told that we'd be in one of two theaters - and they're two of the larger venues - the Acorn or the Julia Miles, but the Acorn sounds better for us, so I'd sort of press for that.  I have to make the final decision Monday morning.

BK, I have a bit of advice about the band: don't go higher than three players unless they can guarantee a space to hold at least 4. The venues are all over the map, scenic requrements have to be very light and portable to accommodate other shows, and both things I did last year were in spaces that accommodated three players awkwardly.

I'd be happier with that, but fitting in a piano, percussion and cello at 37th Street for NIGHT OF THE HUNTER was tight, and the church on 45th(?) for THE SINGING NUN was awkward for piano, synth and drums.

It has been said "unfairly" that every time Ted is cast in a comedy series it is either cancelled or begins a downward spiral.  I have always enjoyed watching him, and just plain looking at him.

Absolutely UNFAIRLY spoken about him. Yes, he's been on some bombs, but they were poor in spite of him, not because of him.

And his last series, HOPE & FAITH, ran four years.

It's a facile, snide comment made by snide people, and it really makes me angry to tag ANY performer that way.

I finished watching BILLY WILDER SPEAKS this afternoon. It's really clear that he loved Jack Lemmon, as a person and enjoyed working with him. And he made it clear he had good working relationships with people whose politics he was polar opposite from (Jimmy Stewart, Jimmy Cagney). And he never crowed about even his biggest successes.

I wish he had talked about films like THE PRIVATE LIFE OF SHERLOCK HOLMES and similar unsuccessful ventures that were nevertheless fascinating experiments. There were a couple of stills from ACE IN THE HOLE but that was basically the only flop that got mentioned. Everything else was about many of his big hits.

Next, I started watching Thursday night's STUDIO 60. Another affecting episode, though I didn't quite get to the end of it. What a shame that Sorkin finally got the right tone and focus for the series right at the end of the contracted 13 episodes. The show really could have built into something truly good. Now, it'll just go down as a lost cause.

The question:

This theatrical season produced only a few hits and a lot of flops.  Our first play, even though a mild hit, was a not-well-thought-of play, and it was turned into a not-well-thought-of flop film, despite being written by a popular playwright.  Its cast included one actor who was known for playing an iconic film role.  Another actor would go onto film stardom and a directing career.  An actress in the show was better-known for her work in a TV series.   The director of the show was not known as a director but as a playwright and screen writer.

Another play (a major flop) was written by an author who would go onto write the book for at least two classic musicals.  It was adapted from a well-known novel by an interesting author.  It was directed by someone who was more well though of as a writer.  It's cast included a cast member of a successful screen musical, an actress who would go on to give several memorable screen performances and who now has a daughter currently working in theater, and a male cast member who would go on to work with someone on this here site.

Our third theatrical event (another major flop) was put together and directed by one of its ensemble cast members - this person gave many excellent supporting performances on stage but mostly on screen.  In the cast were two future Academy Award-nominees for Best leading performance in a film - one of them was also a multiple-Tony Award-winner, and one of them would also star in a truly iconic role on television.

So...

Play one - name the play and playwritght, name the actor and his iconic role, name the actor who would go on to a screen acting and directing career, name the actress and her TV series, and name the director who was better-known for writing.

Play two - name the play, the playwright, the author of the novel the play was based on, the cast member who'd been in a successful screen musical, the cast member who went on to give several memorable performances on screen and also name their currently-working daughter, and name the director better known for writing.

Show three - name the person who put together and directed (and acted in) this show, name the show, name the cast member who won multiple Tony Awards and an Academy Award nomination, name the cast member who would also get an Academy Award nomination and who played in iconic role on television.

And there you have it.  DON"T POST YOUR ANSWERS TO THE SITE - send them to me at bruce@haineshisway.com.

This does not bode well for next weekend at HHW when so many Haines and Kimlets will be traveling to various and assorted places.

I know that I will be E&T from Wednesday until the next Tuesday.

Yes, but if we need to call you,  all we have to do is call Brent Barrett and ask him to hand his phone to the stalker behind him.

One of my greatest memories of all time, is the night that I met Shirley Jones at the MGM Grand.  I first saw her earlier in the evenng when she and Jack Cassidy performed at the MGM.  Then later, I ended up sitting with her dancers from the show who, in turn, introduced me to her.  What an incredbile lady.  And when she left, she kissed me goodnight.  Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

My first choice for a NY musical director isn't going to work - Todd Ellison, whose done many albums with me.  He conducts Spamalot, but will be out of town casting several productions of same when we're running.  He gave me a couple of names, but I may offer this to our LA guy so he has the opportunity, at least, to say yes or no.

Edisaurus, we'll probably up-rez after doing the promo reel and sweetening.  So, I guess send 'em back.

They are in a climate-controlled post facility, not in my very hot house. Are you making the promo reel from the DV25 digibeta tapes I sent you? I'm just asking because if you edit those into a promo reel and then want to go back and up-res, the numbers in the EDL wouldn't relate to your shoot tapes.

If you think you will eventually want to upres the whole show, or if the promo reel is just chunks of the show, I could probably match what you do and upres that, since I still have the Brain in my editing system.

So if you think you will want anything like that done here I'll keep them, otherwise I can send them back to you next week.

Hmmm.... So....

This is the big Gay Pride weekend here in NYC.  Tomorrow (the last Sunday in June) is the big parade down 5th Avenue - and I actually think I'll be going this year.  I'm going to my friend, Chris, and his partner, Jeff, out with the baby-watching/holding duties - Henry is adorable.  Jeff is also one of the emcee's for the festivities.  There are a couple of dances and "socials" tonight, and I may or may not head down to one of them.  I'm leaning toward not going.  But one never knows.  Do one.

Oh... I fired up the gas grill on our back patio a bit earlier, and grilled me up some salmon burgers for dinner.  They were pretty good, and at least now I know how long not to cook them.  ;)  -They weren't over-over-cooked, but I think they would have been a little better if I had taken them off the grill one or two minutes earlier.

Alas, getting the grill to start was a bit interesting.  And I also had to clean out the grill.  A lot.  One of the roomies had put charcoal briquets in it last(!) summer, which you really don't need to do with a gas grill.  I didn't realize that she - or anyone else - had not cleaned out the grill since then.  They've used the grill a few times already this season, and it looks like no one ever cleaned it before or after they used it.  Again.  Needless to say, it's clean now, but it does appear that because it was not cleaned out regularly, the igniter rusted out - but that's what matches are for.  In any case...

I'm not normally a "griller", but since I had picked up some salmon burgers from Whole Foods the other day and they had a nice, big "Ready for the Grill" sticker on the package, well...

Tomorrow's dinner:  Tuna burgers.

*And since I had managed to pick up a set of grill-cleaning tools at Williams-Sonoma about two or three years ago when they were on clearance... ;D

Next week should be interesting at work, what with the Fourth of July coming in the middle of the week after.  We're being told to expect a LOT of customers.  We also have a fair number of new workers, many of them students here from Russia and other eastern European nations.  The language difference makes life... interesting.

But I've had a change of attitude from last year.  I'm much more interested in helping teach, and a lot more confident in my abilities to do so.  This should be an interesting summer.

I just hope I get to spend more time at the regular registers, and less at the self serve lanes.  That job is wearing thin.

Dine Out for Life is part of an annual campaign to raise money for local AIDS charities.  Several cities have DOfL campaigns.  The restaurants involved donate either a percentage or all of their profits for the night, and customers are encouraged to donate further.  Der B and I started participating when the events were held in Los Angeles and Long Beach (different nights for the two cities), and are continuing the habit here at our new home.

Saturday evening greetings from our Nation's capitol (well Crystal City in Arlington, to be exact)!

DH Richard and I flew out of Cincinnati at 9:30 this morning, got settled in our hotel about noon, had a quick lunch in the Crystal Food Court, and Metro-ed to the Convention Center.  I picked up my badge (having pre-registered) and Richard got an exhibits pass.  I spent about an hour and a quarter before going to one of the nearby hotels for a session while Richard stayed and visited vendors.  We came back here and regrouped before going to dinner at Jaleo, a tapas place that Rachel Ray recommended to Richard  ;)   We'd never had tapas before and enjoyed it very much.  A wonderful Brazilian waiter named Marcello and a bottle of Spanish wine helped the experience along.  We walked a bit, went to Coldstone Creamery for dessert, and are now ready to crash.

Tomorrow, we'll go to church and spend some more time at the exhibit hall.  I have a couple of program sessions in the afternoon and will then meet some grad school friends at the Michigan reception.

-And I <heart> Jaleo.  *There's also a location down in Penn Quarter a couple of blocks from the Convention Center.  -However, I'd suggest heading to Zaytinya, Jose Andres' other "tapas" restaurant - this time focusing on the foods of Greece, Turkey and Lebanon.  DR Jane and I had a wonderful meal there.  It's right across the street from the Martin Luther King, Jr. Branch of the DC Public Library.

OH!

And I have to say, it's been quite the beautiful day today weather-wise.  Not too hot, not too humid.  And right now, it's actually almost chilly outside.  We have the doors open to the backyard - great night air.

I began with DAYLIGHT, a guilty pleasure of mine. Yes, it's a second rate version of THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE only with folks trapped in a blocked tunnel and frigid water pouring in with no help in sight. So, they must find a way to safety on their own through old passageways.

Except for a really ridiculous ending, however, there are some good stunts and some genuine tension generated. And Viggo Mortensen is always such a pleasure to look at.

Our pride parade is tomorrow, too, but I won't be able to go. I will be heading to the mountains for a belated Father's Day celebration with my Dad and his wife's family. I hope my brother will go but I'm not counting on it.

My DH will be fluffing puppets.

Well, actually, he could do that in the parade!

Oh, BK, speaking of Brad Oscar (I was, you weren't); my friends, Sharry and Micheal** were at a party in Vegas last week that Brad was having (I believe) for his mother's birthday.  Anyway, at the party was Alet and Andy Taylor.  S & M had met Andy in Boston when he was doing THE PRODUCERS, and they met Alet when they saw WHAT IF?

**  Micheal and Sharry met BK, Jose, and Michael Shayne when they saw WHAT IF?

So nice to be remembered. Say hello for me.

Next I watched the HD version of THE MAN WHO LOVED WOMEN recorded off the Universal HD channel. It's a low key Blake Edwards film for the most part, but the largely female cast is very interesting, Julie is really at her loveliest, and Burt Reynolds is really trying to create a character rather than simply trading on his lothario reputation.

Tomorrow, I'll watch the SD-DVD version which has been on my shelf for a couple of years. Well, I'll watch parts of it. I won't sit through the whole thing again so soon.

I also finished the episode of STUDIO 60 which still had about 12 minutes to go. I had thought the story arc was going to be concluded with this episode, but I was mistaken. The last episode of the series which airs next week will supposedly bring these story arcs to some kind of end.

I ended my evening watching the last part of a documentary on Joe Louis. For someone who had such a stellar career, his end was such a sad one forced to trade on his fame for pocket change and hounded by the IRS for back taxes.

I've got NANCY DREW AND THE HIDDEN STAIRCASE cued up in the player to watch tomorrow. I'm going to check out the DVD of THE MAN WHO LOVED WOMEN. I'll probably finish the second (and last) disc in the ACTION set.

I may begin the fifth season of MURDER SHE WROTE tomorrow.

Cats CAN be useful. We just got home, and my big love cat was in the hall, his eyes fixed to the ceiling. We looked up and there was a gigantic spider climbing around above us. Normally I just try to take them outside but this was so big and scary that we felt we should dispatch it because it would have crawled into the attic and then I would have been thinking about it every time I went up there.

(Don't hate me, DR Laura!) Love the butterfly!

A pretty good score, as I remember. It's used a lot in trailers and several trailer music libraries have ripped it off!

Actually Daylight's premise was exactly the same as the original concept for the Poseidon Adventure sequel. The survivors are on train that goes through a very long tunnel and they get trapped and need to escape.

Just back from a day trip up to Williamstown, MA with FJL's Skip and a couple of their pals. The occasion was of course to see Skip's HERRINGBONE, which was as weird and wonderful as I hoped it would be. BD Wong gave a performance of such commitment and for such a difficult bunch of characters. You cannot imagine the sustained energy in this one-man show. Skip's songs were a blast, and the staging had moments of real genius.

When the show was done, solid applause that was not subsiding until BD hushed everyone so he could point out Skip and gave a really nice shout-out to him in the audience. That was cool.

I also got to meet Roger Rees, Richard Kind, and the house manager, who happened to be  a girl I directed in WHERE'S CHARLEY a couple years back. The weather was beautiful, I drove a rental vehicle and it all went so nicely I can't believe I'm home already.

Really a great day all the way around.

It's been a very long day. It started out early as I had hoped to move many things in the morning before it got hot.  Alas, I soon discovered that my access card to the building and the elevator didn't work. I could get to my office because it's on the skywalk, but I couldn't use the elevators, so...I thought moving was shot. I was most frustrated, but decided to go to the old office and get some things done.

I felt sick most of the morning...I think it was something I ate. Anyway, I didn't feel like eating lunch so I went to the new office and started unpacking.  I moved some of the furniture around and emptied all the boxes.  I discovered the cleaning people had thrown a box away. I didn't really need it, but I hope it isn't the same cleaning people.   I left a nice note...we'll see

I installed software, set things up in the computers that sort of thing all day.  As I was leaving Jerry the barber on the first floor came running out to tell me that he talked to Bob the maintenance man and my card was now activated.   So, I got some dinner, came home and fed the cats and went back to the old office, loaded up the refrigerator and a few other things and moved them to the new office where I puttered around until 10:00 PM

I'm not done, but I'm getting very close.  Tomorrow I'll move the plants and maybe go through the last couple drawers at the old office. I wasn't going to take it all with me, but now it looks like I have time so I think I will.    I have so much storage at the new office, that there really isn't a reason not to take it.

The furniture store called to confirm delivery of the conference table on Tuesday.  That and a few little touches, a table here, a magazine stand there and a trip to stock up on some office supplies and I'm good to go.

I must say I'm tired and have been sort of grumpy at times, but this hasn't been too bad.  I've actually enjoyed doing this move myself.  It isn't that much stuff and with the weather, I've moved a little, then set things up, then moved a little more etc.   I am amazed how much I had in my old office.  I guess 6 years is long enough to stock up on a lot of stuff.

They also do websites, so I'm going to talk to him about that and see if he'll give me advice on setting up my network.  If not, I pretty much know how to do it, I'm just waiting for the internet so I can do it all at once

Finished a DVD.  Just had a telephonic conversation with Lauren, who played Joyce.  I think what I'm hearing is that she had no idea she'd actually have to rehearse the show, that we'd all just somehow magically fly in and "do" it.  While I'm not going to need the four weeks, I most certainly am having two full weeks, what with the fact that she'll be playing opposite someone new.  So, my instinct is I'll be casting a new Joyce in NY.  A shame, since Lauren is excellent in the show and it's the kind of role you don't get very often.  But, she has a full-time job and that was a big problem even with the first production - and after that experience I said that I wouldn't go through not having my cast together for rehearsals - having to constantly work around people is not what I want to do or what's good for the show.  The good news is, there are some wonderful actresses in NY who would probably love to do the show and the role.

Well, I've had a busy couple o' days!  Not very interesting...but busy.  I work in the Acquisitions department of the Timberland Regional Library system and once a month, we have to pay all the bills for the books, CDs, DVD, talking books, etc., that we bought.  Yesterday was the cut-off for this month.  Actually, it all needs to be done before my supervisor comes in on Monday, so I had today to completely finish everything that needed to be done.  And what doesn't help is that my co-worker Madeline has been on vacation for all of this past week and will still be gone all next week.  So, that's what I did yesterday and today. :P But it HAD to get done...so done it got.

Today, after I finished at work, my sister came over and finished painting my bathroom and we assembled some shelf units for my extra bedroom.  My sister and niece will come over tomorrow to help move the boxes that are in my living room into my garage so that I can clean my house for when my aunt from California visits in a couple of weeks!  Even though I've known about this for a couple of months, it's all happening too soon (said the king of the procrastinators)! ;) And now, I finally have some time to catch up on ALL of the posts from yesterday and today.  So that's what I'm doing.

Bruce  - how spread out are your actual show dates?  Do they run the span of the festival, or are they concentrated in a short period of time?  I guess what I'm wondering is whether she'd be able to get a cheap couple of flights back to L.A. during lengthy lulls in your performance schedule, if perhaps there were at times five or six days between some perfs?

I'm not sure how it all works, I only know that our six performances occur between Sept. 19th and 30th.  I'll try to lock down exactly which dates they are, and maybe that will help, but I suspect it's the two weeks of rehearsals that's the biggest problem.  I suppose I could have her fly in three or four days before the show and just put her in, but I don't think that's fair for her co-star (who'll be new in the role) or for the company.  I've e-mailed her my thoughts and we'll see what happens.  It was hell working around her during the initial production (her and Alet both) and I don't relish doing that again.
