Well, you've read the notes, the notes had a merry little Christmas, and now it is time for you to post until the Christmas cows come home.

We had a lovely Christmas. I got a new Braun electric razor. Ant's parents are very generous and kind.

We are off to relatives later today for a full day. I'll call my sisters and brothers later also.

I'm eating breakfast and listening to Beverley Humphreys at the moment.

No snow in New York. It's a nice Christmas but not a White Christmas.

I'll be gone for most of the day so I'll check in later, after 8pm.

Again, Happy Christmas to all. See you later!

Christmas morning greetings from northbound I-75 in Ohio!  It's cold but clear and a beautiful sunrise is illuminating our drive.  We left 2 crockpots at work in our kitchen. - I even remembered to put the cinnamon red hots in with the pears and the ham chunks with the green beans, instead of vice versa  :P

Have a great day, all!

Last night, the wife and I watched a very unChristmasy movie, MARGIN CALL.

Very disturbing, but also excellent.

Great writing.  Superb acting.

Good morning, all! And a very Merry Christmas day to all of you!

I slept late; the alarm went off at 6:30, and the body was unwilling to move. At 8:30 I still refused to leave my bed, but my mind insisted that Enough was proverbially enough. I'm on my second cup of coffee, and pondering the morning's schedule. I need to call Randy and Jo shortly, and pack my bag for my travels.

My day wil be quiet, hopefully, but really pleasant.

At noon, I have to be at the Raines' for their yearly Christmas Do, which Charlotte had posted on Facebook was not happening this year. Clearly thoughts changed since she posted that a month ago. Following that, I will hie myself to the apartment of DR FJL and Skip for dinner, and I am certain it will be a wonderful meal. I know the company at both parties will be wonderful.

Following that, I will taxi home and fall over. Tomorrow and Tuesday I have busy days of several things to be accomplished.

I planned on sleeping later this morning, but I found myself waking and rising at 7:30 again.  I ate a simple breakfast, ran out to the Wawa to get the Sunday paper, and now I'm just kicking back for a while before I start to make my infamous garlic dip.

It's 37 degrees and sunny here in the South of Jersey, but the little snowflake indicator on my electronic weather station thingy is blinking on and off, so I guess I'm having a White Christmas digitally, at least.

I may see Wit in January. It's on TDF for $37. I haven't seen much this past year due to the dental bills but I should be able to squeeze in some shows in 2012.

I'm all showered and shaved. We're not leaving until 12:30 and it's only 10:08am so I may go back to the June Allyson biography which Anthony got from a library sale many years ago. It was written in 1982 by Ms. Allyson and "co-written with Frances Spatz Leighton"

Merry Christmas, everyone.  Up late last night and now up early this morning.  I need a looonggg winter's nap this afternoon.

There is the most gloriously beautiful sunfrise happening right now.  The sky is bright orange behind Mt. Hood.

Druxy, I had to review MARGIN CALL a couple of weeks ago.  I personally wished they would have had a little "Moishe the Explainer" section more adequately describing exactly what created the crisis.  I know Zachary Quinto does a little bit of that, but it didn't make a whole lot of sense.

Dinner last night at the rabbi's was faboo.  A gorgeous vegetarian mushroom lasagna, the most incredible sweet potato and turnip latkes (and I do NOT like sweet potatoes), and, because neither Betsy nor one of the other guests read the Rabbi's email correctly, crepes courtesy of Betsy and a big salad courtesy of the other guest (they weren't supposed to bring any other food LOL).

We went to my aunt's house last night for Xmas eve. The kids looked so cute in their dresses. My 2 year old niece managed to "find" every chip bowl that was there. And she discreetly helped herself to chips.

I got a nice pair of pajamas that i wore last night (from Costco). They were super warm and cozy. Last night was very cold -15C. Brrrr. That is the coldest it's been all year. And today it is lightly snowing. So everyone who wanted one got their white Christmas.

I also got some scrapbooking stuff. And found out yesterday I won a $25 amazon.com giftcard (which will be nice for my new kindle). And $15 worth of books from the book depository. So i am getting a book I have been wanting for a month, Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi.

The Rabbi's condo is in NE Portland, quite close to where I first lived when I moved to PDX some 35 years ago (yikes!!), so I drove by that shack (and, yes, it was and is a shack) last night just to think back on how far I've come.  And, as I joked, with the Rabbi and her husband, how quickly.  ;)

Since nothing is open today I am not going to leave my house.  It is still cold. Although not sure how it can be so cold and still be snowing. The weather channel said -21C with windchill. That seems to cold for snow!

We are going to try to carve out time to see both HUGO and TINTIN this week.

I actually bought the HUGO book years ago for Zach simply because it was so beautiful.  He loved it when he was younger, but he has no interest in seeing the film, which is a little surprising to me.

Betsy gave me a book of TCM Classic Movie crosswords, and while they're fun, they're incredibly poorly constructed, with few if any actual "crosses" between words (lots of black space and lots of isolated answers with no intersections).  It boils down to, you either know it or you don't.

I don't think it was important to know what created the crisis.

That was not what the story was about.  It was about how they handled the crisis.

I think that the problem with WALL STREET 2, which covered much of the same material, was that it tried to explain too much; much more than you needed to know to follow the drama.  It became ponderous.

Frankly, I think that MARGIN CALL is one of the best films of the year.

Except if you don't understand what the crisis is about, you also can't understand how they handle it.  (That whole montage with them selling stuff was full of technobabble and unless you're a stocks and bonds maven, chances are you're not going to completely understand it).

I am somewhat chagrined to admit the only clew I could not solve on this current puzzle was:

Which turned out to be a film featuring one Guy Haines.  Oy.

(In my defense, there were no--count 'em, no--intersections, so it was a crapshoot.)

No, June did not mention her affair with Richard Rodgers. She does speak about him because she was scheduled to go on the road with a Rodgers show but then George Abbot wanted her for Best Foot Forward and she had discussions w/Rodgers about what to do.

No, JR, we are seeing The Artist tomorrow.

Thank you so much, Bruce, for the wonderful shindig! I was very embarrassed we arrived so late, but I had a last minute dog-grooming request, and two big dogs and a small one that bites took longer than I thought it would. We tried to rush to the House of Pies to get Bruce's favorite peanut butter pie to make up for it, but it only made us more late...duh! And not only were they out of peanut butter pie, but they were out of practically every other flavor. I couldn't decide whether to get the cherry cheesecake or the banana cream, so we got both. When I saw how many desserts were there, I realized two pies was a bit silly. Anyway, the time spent at the party was the fastest two hours of our lives. Listening to Mr. Sherman tell the story of how a conversaton with Cary Grant was his inspiration for some of the lyrics to "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious" was a wonderful highlight. The stories told were so interesting we had no idea what time it was when everyone was getting up to leave. Poor Mark was so rivited by the conversation, he couldn't pick a good time to get more spaghetti and when he finally did, it was practically time to go and he was eating spaghetti as fast as he could. The topic of whether it's better to apply for unemployment online or over the phone was heatedly debated. Now you'd think this topic would be sad and depressing, but Barry is such a wonderful story-teller, he made it riviting and the time just flew by. We were so full when we left, I was still full when I went to bed, but I slept just fine with visions of Bruce playing piano for Shirley Jones dancing in my head.

I sort of slept in today. I guess I woke up around 9:00, then, since the clock radio in this room is kaput, I fired up the NPR app on my iPad and listened to "Weekend Edition". That was followed by the Christmas show on "This American Life" which featured David Sedaris' "Santaland Diaries". And... Then... Oh... I guess I should get out of bed...

Merry Christmas from Buffalo!  It's cold, but as expected, no snow.  I guess it would have been nice to have had a White Christmas, but I must say I don't miss driving in snow.

Ran out of time. Didn't make the ice cream. Didn't get to watch Mozart's/Begman's "Magic Flute." But I got to talk to family on the phone and getting to talk to family here. Hope your day is going well.

Merry Christmas to everyone. Communication here in my sister's house the depths of Wales is difficult. But have briefly managed to get onto a computer. I can't get a connection on my mobile phone at all. We all went over to my niece's house for Christmas dinner and had a good time - especially when playing with the children's toys!

Back from the four-mile jog - really expected to see no cars on the street, but, while not as many as usual, it was surprising how many people were out.

I've eaten tuna pasta salad and plenty of it, I've had a tiny slice of both cherry cheesecake and banana cream pie, and I've had a chocolate donut - and that will be it for the day.  Otherwise, I've just been enjoying a totally lazy day - finished Fright Night, began Tokyo Drifter and probably will go to my friend's place to see War Horse and, if I'm not falling asleep, Hugo.

Good evening, all! I am home from my peregrinations to West End Avenue and to West 43rd Street.

Both events were wonderful: the Raines had the usual suspcts and a few new folk includinf a very nice gentleman from the Metropolitan Opera staff and lots of good food and gossip: I know who's replacing Bernadette Peters for the LA tour of FOLLIES, I've signed Simon Jones to play Lord Henry in ROBERTA, and we've dished the current run of Broadway shows. I saw Charlotte's best friend Amy Tesich, daughter of the late playwright Steve Tesich whose autobiographical BREAKING AWAY is one of my favorite films. amy is now living in Colorado and working as a personal chef, and I hope that she and Charlottw and I can get together before she heads west on Dec 28.

Then at 2:30 I headed down to West 43rd Street to meet DR FJL. Skip, our E&T DR Julie, their agent Pat and her daughter.  The dinner was another work of art and the company was sterling. I had a wonderful time and returned home with mac 'n' cheese and a pork chop for tomorrow's lunch. Skip also sent me home with a few hand-turned chocolates, and on the basis of the ones I had, I would say the man's a master with chocolate as well.

Now that I am home, I can do the one thing I forgot to do this morning: open my cards and gifts I've received in the past several weeks. Who knows what i will find!

We had a late dinner, because people just would not leave church -- and I had to wait for them to leave because I was the only one left with keys to lock up.

It is so cold here. And there is snow everywhere. I had to put my shoes away. :(

Usually we can not wear shoes outside for the whole winter. But this year for some reason the roads were bare until this week. So i'd been wearing shoes instead of boots most days.  But now it looks like at least 3 months of boots!

Can't wait to go Boxing Day shopping tomorrow. Although the stores are only allowed to open at 1pm.

Rob, Mary Linda, and my Mother arrived about 3:30.  We opened presents until the potatoes were ready to come out of the oven.  Took a break to eat dinner and Skype with Mary Linda's family in Michigan.  We returned to the family room to finish present-opening and eat the delicious chocolate bourbon pecan pie that ML made for dessert.  The 3 of them left about half an hour ago and Richard and I are ready to crash.

I spent the afternoon at my sister and brother-in-law's house for Christmas.  It was actually one of the nicer Christmas Days in recent years.  Many years ago, my sis and her husband would host a Christmas Eve party for friends and family and a Christmas Day dinner for the family.  After my mom was killed, my sister stopped having a Christmas Eve gathering, and a result; Christmas Day dinner began including more than just family members.  Hey, it is there house and they can invite whoever they want to their house, but when you have family sitting in one room and their friends from the bars in another room; it wasn't a great experience for anyone.

This year, I got there, we opened gifts, we visited, we ate dinner, and I left before any of their bar friends had arrived.

Afte clearing up I started assembling Christmas dinner -- this year instead of having my folk's come here we decided to go to their house - but I supplied the dinner

I assembled most of the making s at home and them brought the dishes over to Mom's to cook

we had sauteed mushrooms and onions in marsalsa wine sauce , turnips, peas, cauliflower casserole, parisian carrots in a brown sugar and butter glaze and boneless rib roast.

Manny thanks to dear Skip for teaching me the trick to the perfect roast -  bring the meat to room temperature then cook for 25 minutes at 500 then turn the oven to 200 and cook slowly until done  -

Today was a fairly quiet day of eating, Scrabble playing and chatting at my sister's house.  We put in my Blu-ray of the new Phantom of the Opera from England to listen to it as we played Scrabble (I lost both games).  It play perfectly...until about an hour and a half into it.  It pixelated and sputtered and jumped back and the sound wasn't synched with the picture. :'(

Now, I'm going to check it on my Blu-ray player to see if it does the same thing.  If it does, there's nothing that I can "officially" do.  I ordered it the day that it was released (November 14) and it's now too late to send it back or get a replacement.  What the plan is, my niece wants to buy this.  If her copy is fine, SHE will send back MY copy, since she'll watch it as soon as she gets it. ;)

Actually, I was wrong about it being too late to return the Blu-ray!  According to Amazon.co.uk:

Quote
Extended Christmas Returns Policy: We've specially extended our returns period for the Christmas season. Items purchased from Amazon.co.uk and dispatched during the period from November 1, 2011 to December 31, 2011 inclusive may be returned at any time before midnight on January 31, 2012. Our returns policy will revert to the standard 30-day period for items purchased after December 31, 2011.
