Just saw that actress Jean Carson passed away at age 82.

JRand55 will remember her as the deep voiced best friend of the tormented Gloria Talbott in I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE...others might recall her from her appearances on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW as the raspy voiced "fun girl" Daphne on 3 episodes.

I met her at a couple of the Ray Courts Shows...she was very sweet...her voice was even more raspy as she puffed away on many a cigarette outside the convention center!

Oddly enough I just saw her on an episode of LOCK UP last night.

Oh my goodness... that just brought a sentimental tear to my eye.  That is the sweetest thing I've ever heard.  And you're still together?  Er, I assume?

My avatar is a photo that was taken about 5 or 6 years ago by a friend who was taking a photography class. He needed a subject and I volunteered.

I probably should update it one of these days.

DR Joy - My pic falls under the category of "Things To Do During Long Book Scenes".  ;-)

More precisely, during Camelot.  The pit at Arena Stage is totally under the stage, so we're not seen at all by the audience.  So...  After turning off the flash, setting the shutter for a long exposure, and setting the self-timer... Voila!

I actually just ordered some prints of the photo in various sizes and croppings.  I think I'm gonna use it as one of my press/promo pics.

-And I'll be be sure to say HI to Michelle for you tomorrow! :)

I received two fascinating books in the post today:  HOW SONDHEIM FOUND HIS SOUND and Matthew Modine's diaries from FULL METAL JACKET.  I want to relax and read but I have to work on Mario's concert!

Perhaps, if Mario would agree to come over and sit in front of you naked, while you work on his concert, you might be more motivated.

Joy you are so sweet.  We have been married 36 years and are still very much in love.

Congratulations on your successful casting session and may 2006 be a fantastic year for you.

And before I forget...

The true highlight day was seeing our stage manager, Sue, again.  She was our SM for South Pacific and she was supposed to be our SM for Camelot, but due to a bout with cancer she had to bow out of that production.  Thankfully, she's in very good health right now, and it's been five months since her last chemo session.  Her hair has grown back, including her eyebrows!  -And she'll be with us for Damn Yankees.

But through it all, her spirit and sense of humor never waivered.  And her hugs feel even stronger and more welcoming than ever.

:)

And the whole "family" is back together again - director, assistant director, choreographer, assistant choreographer, music director, assistant music director and stage manager.

I just realized I have a bunch of catching up to do from yesterday!  I'll start with DR SWW:

You can't let fear of failing be the reason you don't try something.  I've been wanting to be a casting director, but I have been telling myself to take it slow, I'm not ready to do it by myself yet.  And I never wanted to try to do anything about my weight because I was so worried that I wouldn't make it, that I would screw it up.  So I held myself back, made all kinds of excuses.  But then I just decided to go for it, to put myself out there... and it didn't happen overnight, I just started to slowly convince myself to take it one day at a time and to take control of my life, to start acting like a success.  To make small choices and change attitudes.

I'm a long way from the finish line, but I feel more in charge of my life than I have in a long, long time... maybe ever.  So the moral of the story, SWW, is this:  Stop looking for reasons why you can't teach that cooking class.  Turn "I can't, I won't, I didn't" into "I can, I will, I did".  WE all know you can do it, professional CHEFS know you can do it; the only one who remains unconvinced is you.

And now, I step down from the podium.  Thank you.

;) :)

DR Ron:  With extra-lean non-antibiotic ground beef or lean steak, reduced-fat cheddar, fresh chopped or chopped canned tomatoes, and kidney beans, there's no reason that chili can't be a delicious AND healthful treat.  ;)

I've been reading a LOT of weight-watcher type magazines lately.  Can you tell?  :D

DR Dan - ITA (I Totally Agree, in Internet lingo) with you about Botox.  It is really getting freaky.  That woman, what's her name, who hosted "So You Think You Can Dance"?  She doesn't even look HUMAN.  I couldn't stand to watch her.  And it's not just TV personalities; it's "real", live women all around us!  What do they see when they look in the mirror in the first place that makes them do these awful things to their faces?  And what do they see afterwards that makes them think this looks okay?  It looks disgusting!  It is so obvious and horrible!  *shudder*
