BK, you have seen my "wall o'Brasilian music," so I could make a list for you that would stretch to page 200 (your fondest dreams coming true, LOL). I'll repeat some of my favorite artists and then you can go to town on your own treasure hunt (you can't go wrong with any of these, though some will be more orchestrated in the Ogerman/Sebesky style):
Any of the Caymmi family:
"Papa" Dorival, who was Carmen Miranda's MD--more old style samba
son Dori Caymmi (I think you would love Dori, he wrote "Like a Lover" among many others)
daughter Nana Caymmi (very, very low alto, haunting voice)
son Danilo Caymmi (is on a lot of the late Jobim albums, wrote "Brasil Nativo")
Marcos Valle (wrote a lot of the post-Jobim hits, like "Summer Samba")
Edu Lobo (absolutely incredible writer/guitarist, again post-Jobim, best known for tunes like "Casa Forte" and "Pra Dizer Adeus")
Milton Nascimento (quite possibly the most haunting singer/songwriter of the post-Jobim generation, too many classic tunes to list, though you might know the ones that Sarah Vaughan recorded)
Ivan Lins (the Gershwin of modern Brasilian music, and one of the most sophisticated songwriters of the past 25 years. Too many altered dominant sevenths to throw a stick at, LOL. You probably know his tune "The Island," but every album of his is exceptional).
OK that will keep you busy for a while.
