From yesterday

I also own a copy of Bed and Sofa.

That makes 3 of us. I wonder who the other two people are ;D

I have it, too.  And I think I may even have the songbook. ::)

George - we license THE FANTASTICKS. Tom and Harvey have actually approved the use of two mothers INSTEAD of two fathers, but not IN ADDITION TO the fathers. The dancers...well...that's a creative thing that we most likely wouldn't meddle with. It doesn't change the intent of the piece, so we kind of let that stuff go.

Yesterday I got a call from a teacher in Virginia who was looking for JOSEPH...DREAMCOAT. I told him that Rodgers & Hammerstein now holds the rights for the Lloyd Webber shows and he said, "oh, no. I can't do it, then." I asked why and he said something to the effect of 'some of the licensing houses (Tams-Witmark, specifically) have reputations for being mean to their customers, and he's just recently added R&H to that list. Why, you ask? Because a high school in his district had done BIG RIVER (one of R&H's properties) and the production was soooo good that it was nominated for an award and they had to present a cutting of the show at the Kennedy Center for the awards ceremony. R&H issued an immediate cease and desist, however, once they found out that the show had been non-traditionally cast based on vocal ranges: Huck was black and Jim was white. Can you imagine?

Because he felt that R&H were bullying the school out of their awards performance, the whole district is boycotting shows from the R&H catalog. Guess he won't be doing JOSEPH any time soon...

DR Ginny, don't know if you have ever seen it before, but it is a darn funny movie!

DR MBarnum - Friday is pizza & family movie night in our family, but I'm afraid that my DH and DS will think anything with "wedding" in the title will be too much of a chick flick.  I've not seen it, but seeing Toni Collette in Connie and Carla, plus the ABBA songs (Mamma Mia influence), made me want to.

Cast album, dear boy.

While, Dolly and King and I were VERY successful - in terms of ratio of cost to sales, the most successful cast recording I produced was indeed, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change.

Titanic was, of course, the most successful CD I produced.

I also have (and quite enjoy) the "Titanic" CD.  My niece even has it!  She saw that darned movie IN THE MOVIE THEATERS 21 times!!  And paid for me to take her FOUR times!  She was (fortunately, no longer) obsessed with the movie and the event.

In my CD player:  "Dennis Cleveland:  An Opera by Mikel Rouse."  Has anyone heard this?  It's a similar premise to "Jerry Springer:  The Opera" except that it's from 1996 and JS is only a couple of years old.

TOD -

iPod - Pirates of Penzance - Australian Cast
Computer Home - A New Guy in Town
Computer in Office - Apple Radio
DVD - Getting ready to watch the first season of "The Nanny"

I'm MDing "I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change" very soon.  We audition next week.  I'm not too thrilled with the music, it seems rather ordinary, I'm hoping it goes well with the book, which I still haven't read.  I'm not sure about this director, he didn't know where to find the cast album (which he still calls a soundtrack) so I bought him one from Amazon and sent it to him.   I'll know next week if this process is going to be rocky or not.  I do like the arrangements of piano, violin and bass, though, that part will be fun.

DR Matthew - I use an eMac and have been unable to listen to Donald's radio show (that's why George sent me CDs of bk's last appearance).  If you get an answer, will you please share it?

Also, I loved the photos of your Paris trip!

Ginny and other MAC users - I figured out how to listen to the Radio Show using a Mac - you must go to real.com and download the Real player for Mac.  Install it and BINGO, Broadway Radio Show!   Good luck.

I agree completely about it being a cowardly managerial decision to fail to confront the guilty parties, and it is absolutely true that the folks guilty of the offenses NEVER thought he was talking to them.

I always wondered how MGM could let some of their ebtter films Like Royal Wedding, Till thr clouds Roll By, Father of the Bride fall into public domain. The songs from the first teo films still are copywrighter and I am sure the screenplay still is  for father.

Actually, it wasn't FATHER OF THE BRIDE that fell into the public domain but its sequel FATHER'S LITTLE DIVIDEND. Still, the question is a valid one and one I'd LOVE to know the answer to. Same with 20th Century-Fox and THE LITTLE PRINCESS.

I'm on about an hour later than usual because from 3p.m.-5 p.m., I was watching (for the first time ever) BLACK NARCISSUS. It was on Trio, so I did have to suffer through commercials every 10-15 minutes, but the print their aired HAS to be the same one used for the recent DVD release. Not a mark or blemish on it, and the color so rich and full that it was magnificent to watch.

Now, as I story of nuns struggling with their vows and feelings, I think THE NUN'S STORY is a much better film, but this was still a memorable movie with shots I'll remember for a long, long time.
