The heat and humidity have returned to SW Ohio and it's only a matter of time before we close up the house and turn the AC back on  :P

...and it's done.  We really enjoyed the hint of fall we had over the weekend, but the humidity finally got to me.  At least, now that it's September, this won't last for weeks on end.

I guess that means we'll be back in it tomorrow, too.  But you're right, DR Ginny, these will be short lived now.

Yes, I keep remembering 31 years ago when Rob was born.  Sept. 7, his birthday, was hot and muggy like today and by the time we were released 5 days later my Mom had to bring socks and long sleeves for me to wear home.

5 days was a long time to be in the hospital.

I just received a message that Keith's cousin has passed away.  He is sleeping.  I will need to find a quiet moment tomorrow to tell him.  I am not sure when that will be.

I just realized I had better tell him in the morning before he reads it on fb.  A pm would have been better than tagging me.  I am sure her brother is taking it hard.

Yeah, I was old for a first-timer and Rob was jaundiced.

Jenna and Sami did a great job. I really enjoyed the lyric changes, too. Worked beautifully.

Bruce, is Sami having voice lessons? Her voice seems quite a bit stronger than it was just a couple years ago.

I was never a Star Trek fan, BUT I'll tell my Star Trek story.

I was in junior high or high school when the series first started. They must have been filming at Desilu because that's where my dad was working then. He'd see the actors in costume and would mention to me the guys with the funny ears. I'd heard about them so many times that by the time the show aired I thought, in true cynical teen style, "Oh, the guys with the funny ears" and dismissed it.

However, my dad had brought home a number of Star Trek scripts. I'd been reading scripts since I was about 6, so that was no big deal.  I still cringe when I think about this: I threw them out!! Yes, I had two or three of the original Star Trek scripts in my hands and I tossed them. Ugh! But nobody knew how popular the show would be or how collectables would appreciate. This was long, long before ANTIQUES ROADSHOW and collectables were a very limited market indeed. There aren't a lot of things I truly regret in life (things I had control over, anyway), but that is one of them.

TCB, I believe you said something the other night about having some difficulties with your first chapter. This is quite common. It's a matter of finding your voice--or the voice of the work you're writing. Once you find it I think things will move along more quickly.

Do not expect to write as quickly as BK! BK is an incredibly fast writer. Take your time and enjoy the process. I assume you have no published hounding you to meet a deadline. The best way to write, IMO.

Vibes you have a great time with it.

And now for something completely different, the new cast recording of Stephen Schwartz's Magic To Do has finally arrived!  It's essentially a musical review.  There are only 14 songs on the CD, and there's no synopsis or even a hint of what's supposed to be happening around the songs, but I enjoyed it as a short (47-minute) review.

The sticker on the outside of the shrink-wrap says "Includes first recordings of songs from HOUDINI plus 'A Little Magic'."  However, the booklet doesn't specify songs are from HOUDINI, or even exactly what HOUDINI is. :-\
