Rain turning into snow tomorrow.
DR ELMORE - I was the assistant director and stage manager for a Steve Tesich play called SQUARE ONE. I think it was the first production away from New York. He attended our Opening Night in Indianapolis and was very nice to everyone, and said he liked the show.... He also signed our scripts which was very nice.....I still have it in my collection.
It was very shocking that he died at such a young age.
Rain turning into snow tomorrow.
I'm ready to get snow-bound...
One interminable piano part finished. One to go!
NO MAIL TODAY.....it is a Federal Holiday!
TOD - Christmas Eve, we had a late lunch/early dinner at Panera before the service at Rob & Mary Linda's church. I had creamy tomato soup and chicken cobb salad. Later in the evening, Richard and I had popcorn and I ate the apple they threw into our order at Panera.
Our Christmas Day dinner was much more traditional:
Sliced ham and turkey from Honey Baked Ham
Cheesy potatoes
Green beans, slow-cooked with some ham
Cinnamon pears
Lemon/lime jello pineapple cottage cheese surprise
Challah
Chocolate bourbon pecan pie, made by Mary Linda
Assorted cookies, made by me (actually, everything was made by me, except the pie - no wonder I'm tired!)
IKEA......I hope you have tools.
We are going to brave the crowds and take the kids to Ikea today to get Gabe a nightstand. We have never been to an Ikea before, so we're looking forward to it.
Also, the "baby home" referenced in the story (which is being torn down) was where my girlfriend worked for years when we first moved to Portland back in the late 1970s.
BK, thanks for your rant on the a generation's over-adulation of mediocre movies from the eighties. GOONIES is one of the most inexplicably beloved movies of that generation and it is a bad imitiation of bad Spielberg at his worst. Unfortunately, most of these eighties lovers are now running the studios. I recently saw the new CLASH OF THE TITANS. The old eighties CLASH was an example of a tired, mediocre Harryhausen being left behind the times; but this new CLASH makes Harryhausen's CLASH look like a masterpiece by comparision.Amen. Except for Martha Plimpton, I can't think of a good thing to say about "Goonies." I never wanted to see "Fright Night" because the reviews then were dreadful and don't seem to be much better now.
I have not liked a Susan Sarandon film since THE ROCKY HORROR PICTURE SHOW, and she is not the reason I liked that movie.LOL!

As long as the audience doesn't feel the same way!
And thanks for the Christmas package. I am listening to the Offenbach!!

And the word of the day is: SOLATIUM!
George, pixellation on BDs is almost always caused by something very minor, like a sticky fingerprint or the like. Just look at the bottom of the disc under a good light and you may find the answer to your problems.
When "Fright Night" was being shown on cable 7 times a day (or so it seemed), I watched about 10 minutes of it once. That was pretty much it.

I did look at the disc and it didn't seem to have any prints on it. When I played it in my Blu-ray player at home, it was absolutely fine. My niece wants to get her own copy, so hopefully the one she gets will be fine.

Be sure to pick up a map on your way in - otherwise you may never get out!
Back to the last piano part: about 43 bars to go. I think I may take a trip to Staples to celebrate.
I also need some lunch. Maybe eggs. I'm saving the pork chop I took home from Skip and Fred's last night for dinner.

Did Skp and Fred know that you took the pork chop?
What if William isn't home?
I wouldn't even attempt IKEA the day after Christmas.
But then, I wouldn't attempt any store the day after Christmas.

I saw Susan Sarandon do A COUPLE OF WHITE CHICKS SITTING AROUND TALKING, Off-Broadway, and then spent a wonderful hour hanging out with Susan and co-star Eileen Brennan. I found both of these ladies to be even more delightful off stage, than they were in doing the play.
Someone named Benjamin Kritzer just ordered There's Mel - I kid you not.
I've been back and forth trying to decide which of the next three days I'll go to work on (Friday is a holiday!). I was thinking of going up and kicking around NYC on Wednesday, but I just heard the weather is going to be cold and windy. So I'll most probably take off Thursday, giving me a five day mini vacation to end the year.
JR, it's a bunch of mini-musicals that are all being done on an absurdly small stage, which is part of the conceit of the series. I think I mentioned ours is about people trying to set a world's record for stuffing a phone booth. What's a phone booth?

and then we went to Freddy's where we got a perfectly serviceable nightstand for the outstanding sum of $12.99.

I noticed the pork chop was missing, but I didn't realize until just now that someone had walked off with the nightstand.

That was Julie!
OK I'm sick of this weather. It was 53 degrees today. No rain, no snow, just dry and 53. This is not right

Maybe I would enjoy her company off the screen.
One of the CDs I got for Christmas was the TER recording of "Cabaret" with Fred Ebb performing. And there in credits was one Larry Moore, who provided select orchestrations. Always nice to see those two words in print.
Just watched something most interesting - the guy with the screening room gave me a DVD that had my episode of Lucas Tanner on it. I don't think I've seen it since either the day we shot it or the day it aired - the show lasted only a season (if that) and has never to my knowledge been in reruns. This was taken from a 16mm print. Other than knowing I did the episode and the one anecdote I shared in my book about wanting to wear glasses and director Gordon Hessler's response, I remembered absolutely nothing about it. The first surprise was seeing us on location on a trail near a lake somewhere - have no idea where and have no memory of it at all, which is unusual since I never got to go on location anywhere. I also can't remember where we actually shot the school scenes - maybe Marshall High maybe somewhere in the Valley. Alan Abelew (George in Nudie Musical) was a regular, and the guest star was beautiful Lee Purcell. My pal Trish Soodik was also a semi-regular - she died a couple of years ago. And I knew I'd worked with Kimberly Clark before and now I know where, since she was in it, too. I had more to do than I remembered and the glasses were a good touch, I think. The show was reasonably well written but could not be done today as it was then - about a teacher whose student is in love with him. The best thing about the show, though, was David Shire's music - I'll have to tell him that he actually wrote music to something I acted in - he'll get a kick out of it. David Hartman was Lucas Tanner and he's very good if a little weird at times. I think he found his calling soon after this show with Good Morning America or whatever show he was on.

Goodnight, DR TCB - I hope you feel better tomorrow!me, too.

Who?
I finished my first ebook yesterday (on my kindle). And when i was done it asked me if i wanted to tweet that i'd finished (they wrote the tweet for me). So i tweeted from my kindle.
I must say i can't believe that i went so long without an ereader. I love it!
If anyone is interested in a fun, unusual film, I recommend DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME, which a pull quote pretty accurately describes as Crouching Tiger meets Sherlock Holmes.

Sounds like a loverly evening in little Old New York, DR Vixmom!
Well, I had a rather nice surprise - about an hour ago I got a call from the Apple Store saying my computer was ready. So, I went down there, we spent a few minutes looking at everything, and I am now posting from a brand spanking new computer - it's amazing. I have the new trackpad thing and as soon as I get used to it it's going to be so much more fun than a mouse.

I appreciated the mild weather before Christmas, but now that it's over I wouldn't mind a cold snap and a snowfall.
I got seasons 1, 2 and 4, DR JRand. I was going to try another Target for season 3 but the traffic and sun were getting to me and I realized that the sale is on for the entire week so I can try for it another day.
And of course like so much theater, the actors are getting paid, but the musicians who are providing them with music? Nada.

Do you happen to know if the "Modern Family" sets dropped down to $9.99 too? Like they were on Black Friday weekend.
NO MAIL TODAY.....it is a Federal Holiday!
I did not know that! I looked at the USPS website and didn't see a holiday on the 26th. Now I can stop staring out my window searching for my mail lady (or listening for her--the woman carries on non-stop cell phone conversations as she delivers.)
