Regarding yesterday's list, it may be out of print but the film soundtrack of How to Succeed was released on CD in the late 90's. It was one of those Ryko Enhanced CDs with the trailer included. I have the CD in front of me. It was also released on cassette at the same time. As I said, it's probably out of print now but it is out there somewhere in a CD release.

Good morning.

State Fair food: Curly fries, frozen bananas, cotton candy, corn dogs, barbecue pork sandwiches. ALWAYS FRESHLY MADE, NOT THAT BUY AT THE MARKET FROZEN STUFF. We were at the Pomona Fair every year at 7AM for years, lots of walking but worth it. Race track, concert at night, rides lots of rides, farm animals, model trains, home made jams etc,. from all over the country to take home for the year. Yum.

I haven't been to a state fair in probably four decades, so I have NO memory of the food that I ate. I do know back then there were no vendors selling deep fried items like they offer now. I'd love to try some of those foodstuffs, but that'd be the only reason I'd go to a state fair now.

There is a 50% chance of rain this afternoon, and those storms are seemingly going to cool things down for a few days. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we get these much cooler temperatures.

Had an almost identical night to the one previous: fell asleep easily and quickly and slept well for 4 hours. Then, the rest of the night was spotty at best.

Since I was up so early this morning, I went ahead and put the clothes into the washing machine to get that chore finished with before the afternoon. I'll head down in a few minutes to take the clothes out of the dryer.

Always hated the Renaissance Fair, the smell of beer everywhere, the dirt everywhere, the mindless frolocking everywhere. Even with my friend's Gypsy Wagon set up for her clothing (hand made and hand batiked) we were required to wear those stupid wench costumes. Us poor peasants, the things we had to do when the Queen's procession came through the town.

While the clothes were washing this morning, I watched two more episodes of LIE TO ME (which finished the first disc in the 3-disc Blu-ray set). Both episodes were good and kept me guessing as to the guilty parties in the crimes being investigated. I was right in 75% of the cases.

Of course, my work project today will be to finish up with the last movie in the trilogy of THE HUMAN CONDITION. Unless something arrives in the mail tomorrow, I have nothing else in the queue. I am expecting a couple more TV box sets (GHOST WHISPERER, CSI: NY, ONE STEP BEYOND), but they haven't arrived yet. Criterion has two Blu-ray releases for later in September that also have not yet arrived.

Fox's Blu-ray of the movie MASH should arrive at some point this week, and since it comes out Tuesday, it'll get priority when it arrives, but it naturally has not gotten here yet.

I have never been a fan of the "Ren Fest" as my actor friends who participated called it. Ugh.

I have a soft spot for the Minnesota State Fair. The last time we went was 2004. We only went once and it was with most of my family. We wanted to go a second time without everyone but it didn't happen. The next time we are in Minnesota in August we will try to go by ourselves.

In the 60s and 70s the "deep-fried" and everything on a stick was not a part of the State Fair experience. There were cheese curds and candy apples and cotton candy and other fun foods but no deep friend Milky Ways or Pork Chop on a stick (there were Pronto Pups, the deep fried battered hot dog on a stick but that was about all). Since I haven't been to a state fair (except for 2004) in 30 years I don't know when the deep friend and stick phenoms started.

I just finished a bunch of updates on the laptop and the desktop. I will now hop in the shower and then it's off to Pier One to look at some discontinued chairs.

The weather has gone back to late summer. It's supposed to be 84 today after a couple of days of rain and blissfully cool weather.

Hope the blissfully cool keeps up for this next weekend (Labor Day) when we are on Long Island

The display case for ARSENIC AND OLD LACE is looking a bit sparse.

I have two Playbills from the original run at the Fulton Theatre - one features Josephine Hull and Eric Von Stroheim....the other features Mr Boris Karloff.

I have a book that has a lovely photo from the original run that features Hull and Jean Adair and "Mr Witherspoon", a book that has Mr Karloff in his Frankenstein makeup.

A Stagebill that has some fun art on the front....the production featured Jean Stapleton and Marion Ross AND Mr Jonathon Frid.

I will also add a small wine glass with real elderberries and....a bit of lace.

The State Fair in itself was not bad at all, it was just that I got stuck escorting my mom (with her walker) while my sister got to take Benny and Taylor to all the fun stuff.

Mom just wanted to see the display of art work. She has entered a painting each year since she moved up here. This year her painting was not chosen for display. She was grumpy and spent the entire time dissing the other paintings and telling everyone she encountered how her painting was not chosen. It was driving me up a wall.

To top things off, we were supposed to try and find my sister and the kids, but Sue didn't hear her cell phone when I called her to find out where she was. After an hours journey escorting my crabby mom (and her walker) across the fairgrounds, and seeing no sight of the kids and Sue, we decided to leave.

Once we left and were back on the road...THEN my sister calls me to tell me where they are.

I had been looking very forward to taking the kids on some rides and checking out all the farm animals and reptiles.

Oy and vey! Dixie Bell has been blessed. In the church. In the sanctuary. All of which occurred AFTER her run around the cemetery. She'll probably sleep for most of the rest of the day; me, I'll be taking a long, hot, steamy shower. Or two. (no soap on a rope).

The Western Washington Fair, known far and wide as the Puyallup Fair, runs September 11 thru 27. It is one of the ten largest fairs in the country, and the single largest event in the State of Washington. It is still a lot of fun (I like to see all the products being hyped..."it sleces.....it dices"); but it really has become expensive. Not a bad as a day at Disneyland, but still expensive.
