Well, you've read the notes, you've leapt some tall buildings at a single bound, and now it is time for you to post until the cows come home faster than a speeding bullet.

And the word of the day is: PUSILLANIMOUS!

Try typing THAT five times in a row quickly.

I couldn't even type it once quickly!  I tried...it didn't work...

I am watching the DVD of Little Shop Of Horrors, which I picked up at the library this afternoon.

PUSILLANIMOUS: It's a word I use a lot in my business, for example: Most studio executives are PUSILLANIMOUS in their committment to interesting material.

BK,
Pusillanimous,Pusillanimous,Pusillanimous, Pusillanimous,,Pusillanimous!

Why does a muskrat NOT GUARD HIS MUSK?
Because he is PUSILLANIMOUS!

In a world, where folks run from the merest peep,
Where lovers never meet for fear of discovery,
Where the only sound is the sound of pride being thrown to the ground...
Pusillanimous is the name of the game!

Coming this millenium to a theater or an indigenous government near you.....
Pusillanimous..the movie...see it and lose all hope for recourse!

Fish to all ( and BK, I still say, listen to "Kicks", then "Gotham", then play "Kicks" again and sing "Gotham" OVER it....same key, same format. Sheesh!!! Is this a mandala or WHAT??

Much and much...

Favourite hot sandwiches.  My local donut shoppe (as in shop-pee) makes a lovely hot pastrami sandwich.  The other day when I was in, the young lady who runs the shoppe suggested I try a hot pastrami and egg sandwich.  And it were quite deelicious!

Also in Pasadena...home of our dear absent Jay (who I have every confidence will return soon)...is The Hat which makes a brilliant hot patstrami sandwich, with tons of pastrami towering high...a real artery clogger, that baby!

And sometimes there ain't nothing like a good ole simple toasty grilled cheese sandwiche (as in sandwich-ee) with a cup of creamy tomato soup.  I like to dip the grilled cheese sandwiche into the mater soup.  Comfort food!

When I was younger, I liked a hot turkey sandwich with gravy.  I don't think I've ever had a Monte Christo - is that hot?

PUSILLANIMOUS!

I'm listening to the Claremont High School production of Li'l Abner circa 1966.  It's quite charming actually.  The band is almost with the singers, and they're not half-bad for a high school band.  The Li'l Abner has quite a pleasant voice, as does Daisy Mae.  There are the usual lesser talents, but I love this score so much I just let it all float past.  The show was recorded "live" in a gymnasium, so the sound is a bit difficult at times.

MacDonald’s had had a Rice Hot Hamburger Sandwich as a seasonal item for a while a few years ago.  It’s just putting a bamburger between buns made by baked rice, which are shaped look like their original buns, with Teriyaki sauce. It’s not bad, but it’s not much good…a little strange for me.  Do they have Teriyaki Hamburger Sandwich in the US?  It’s better, I think.

I have never been a PUSILLANIMOUS pussyfooter, nor do I believe in being a nattering nabob of negativism

Ah, the memories of 1969. I was a sophomore at Coon Rapids Senior High School, discovering the joys of live theatre, doing every show I could in school and in community theatre and also joining protests against the Vietnam War and laughing at people like Spiro Agnew, our then Vice-President, as he spouted the phrases above, written for him by those stalwart speechwriters William Safire and Pat Buchanan. Little did I know that some 30 odd years later they would still be working to dismantle society as we know it and rebuild it in their own craven image and woe to the dissenters.

My, my where did that come from?

I'm seeing Shockheaded Peter this evening. An English musical based on 19th Century German (I believe) children's stories. Sounds fascinating. I'll report tomorrow (even though tomorrow is Media Check day and it's also Talent Round Up Day on the old Mickey Mouse Club).

JRand, I don't think I clicked on the Julie London link previously. I did this morning and laughed out loud. Very funny!

VixMom, you're in Deer Park? I ride through your hamlet every time I take the LIRR out to Centereach. I'll be doing it this Friday after work when I head out for the long weekend. When you mentioned Tangier, I thought you were farther out on the Island but I see you're a mid-Suffolk person. Only one more week of current train fares before the increase on February 27th. Too bad we can't stock up on cheaper rail tickets.

I love those diner/50s-60s open-faced sandwiches like turkey with mashed potatoes and a side of green beans, covered in hot gravy. Umm, umm. Brings back memories. Comfort food.

Hmm, half my post seems to be about memories. As I grow older, I'm living in the past.

Off to work. TTFN

Hello, DRBen!  Michael Tilson Thomas called me Lorenzo when we did the PBS/Brookly Academy Gershwin Centennial.  I never think of you as a Benjamin or Bennie, but a friend indeed!  After all the fraught "where is everyone" from our host at 10 pm PST, which is 1 am here, I feel the same way at 9 am EST, so it's good to have you here with me.  Where is everybody?

I never liked hot sandwiches, so I have nothing to add here.  My favorite cold sandwich these days is muenster cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on whole wheat toast.

Dear Friend BK, about the reading on March 18, the answer is no.  If I stepped into the book shop, after being absent since 1998 or so, the event would no longer be about you and your books, which is what it should be; I would have to deal with the owners, anyone I know still working there, and all the catching up.  I love the  shop and I love many of the people I worked with there, but my feelings about my time there, from health insurance to event invitations after I left, is too  complicated to sort through in an evening about you, not me.

I was very happy with last night's American Idol.  Everybody I want made the final 24.

Btw, what do you guys think of the new format:

WHAT'S NEXT?

Over 100,000 people tried out. The judges have picked their favorite 24.

Over the next three weeks, the guys will perform on Monday and the girls will perform on Tuesday, with the fans voting each night. On Wednesday, two guys and two girls will be sent home until we have 6 guys and 6 girls for our 12 finalists. And from there, they'll perform each week for you until you've voted for your next American Idol!

And now I'm back for a while until a missing older appears.

Rodzinski, glad you'll be joining us at Penny's show on March 18th. We will have many new faces to meet and greet.

I'm listening to Radio Ulster right now. Oh, how I love the Irish brogue. Even though I'm at least half English, the Irish seems to predominate. I could live in Dublin (although that's a far way from Ulster) in a heartbeat. Fell in love with the city in 1988 when I spent two weeks there.

Here are the American Idol Final 24:

http://www.idolonfox.com/contestants/

I'm curious who everyone's favorites are.

The ones I like right now are: Anwar, Anthony, Constantine, Amanda, Carrie,  Lindsey,  Mario, Nadia and Mikalah.

There are a few who I don't recall ever seeing: Aloha,  Melinda, Travis, Sarah, Joseph.

The ones who I suspect will be extremely popular by the masses:  Mario Vasquez, Anwar, Constantine, Anthony.

Michael Forest had mentioned running into her when he was at a Star Trek convention about 5 years ago and I knew that was my cue!

I will remind him to contact her in a few weeks, if he hasn't done so by then.

Of course she may not want to be interviewed, in which case I am stuck...but it is a start and at least we know where she resides, more or less, and that she has done at least 2 Star Trek convention in the Seattle area.

Yesterday DR JRand54 said "We subdivided a large property, put in streets, streetlights, sewer & waterlines, and turn berm on the road....and then the local zoning board decided (after we put up six homes) that no new construction could be done because of the airport and the noise pollution the homes would be subjected to.  Talk about owning a road to nowhere!"

and in my frustrationand annoyance with the builder in my neighborhood I  never addressed this calamity he suffered, for which I humbly apologize. I was self-centered and  rude.    :-[   Please forgive me, Jack.

I lay in bed last night (well early this morning, I didn;'t sign off until gone 1 AM) wondering: What ever did happen to your investment?  This must have been awful for you.

Yes, I've beenin Deer Park since 1966, living at my fourth address here, but now with this stupid Tanger business it may be time to leave!  The same people who own the Riverhead Tangers, and the ones down in Woody's area have decided to build here because we are 35 miles from NYC and 35 miles from Riverhead, so they figure all the people in NYC,and Queens, Brooklyn and Nassau that currently travel out to Riverhead can just stop here instead.

I am very riled...sorry I'll try not to rant about this any more today (but no promises!!)  :D

Ben, you mentioned a clown show on LI this weekend, is this a performance I could bring the Vixter to?

I am very familar with Centereach as I spent a couple of very happy years in the SCCC drama department.

I meant to tell you all about my treasure digging at Rodgers & Hammerstein yesterday.  It all began with a nicely funky chord in "Something Wonderful," that has never appeared, to my knowledge, in any published version of the song, but it is in Russell Bennett's scoring.  The question over the chord led to my digging out Trude Rittman's file on THE KING AND I, and sure enough, the chord is in the ms copy of the song.   This file gave me an excuse to look through Trude's work on the show, including her pencil sketch of "The Small House of Uncle Thomas" and all the songs as they existed in rehearsal.  There was a long extended scene for Anna, with Lady Thiang acting as translator, about her late husband Tom, which led into "Hello, Young Lovers," which I'd love to hear. as well as "Waiting," which Dear Friend BK recorded for LOST IN BOSTON.  In the same storage carton were Russell Bennett's orchestra scores for these two numbers as well as the Kralahome's "Now You Leave."  A good time was had by me!

I agree, especially on a cold, rainy day, but to be perfect, the bread must be rye, the cheese must be cheddar and the creamy tomato soup must have rice in it!!

Sorry Vixmom, the clown show is at a private home. I think it's a christening party. Most of Anthony's shows are private parties, although sometimes he is engaged for public events like a show last week at Smithaven Mall. I'll let you know if he gets any public shows in the future.

Those recordings of high school shows can be quite entertaining. One that I have is a show called ALHAMBRA by the Mt. Hebron School in Upper Montclair, New Jersey. It's performed by a lot of kids whose voices are still changing and are a little squeaky, but the sincere sweetness of the performance makes it endearing. Plus it has catchy little songs, such as a street vendor singing a love song to his cart in "My Cart and I". I can't actually find evidence of this show existing anywhere else, so it may be an original, written at the school. The songwriter credit has the same last name as the person who plays piano. If anyone knows anything about this, let me know.

if we had known about the Smithhaven Mall thing last weeked we would have come by to say hi! Oh well, next time!!

Yes, the Ammerman campus was my campus, but it was just called the Selden Campus at that time.  Ammerman was the College President at that time, in fat his daughter was in some of my classes and was dating one of the fellows in the drama group.

There was also a fellow named Jon  something... I can see his face and cannot think of his last name now, he was a year behind me, he ended up going Klown Kollege in Florida and last I heard he was with Barnum & Bailey, he was from Centereach or Holbrook I think....

Um. . . . you must not watch the show. The fellow that Charlie shot four times in the chest last week had no backstory because he was on the island already when the plane crashed. No, he didn't turn to the camera and say that, but there never was a backstory with him.

Cool Word: pusillanimous
The Learning Kingdom
Tue, 11 May 1999 02:39:45 -0700

----------------------------------------------------------------------
     The Learning Kingdom's Cool Word of the Day for May 11, 1999
----------------------------------------------------------------------

               pusillanimous [adj. PYOO-suh-LAN-ih-mus]

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Someone who is pusillanimous is timid or cowardly, lacking conviction
of mind, unable to muster the courage to take a stand.
Etymologically, such a person is "weak-spirited."

In Latin the animus was the reasoning mind or the spirit that
enlivens, and pusillus (weak) was the diminutive of pullus (a young
animal).  Together, they formed Late Latin pusillanimis (weak-
spirited; weak-minded).

Through various paths, other words related to youth have emerged from
the same ancient root that led to pullus:

pullet: a young hen
pony: a small horse
pool: stakes, booty, or funds, from French poule (hen, stakes, booty)
puerile: childish, juvenile, immature

I was disappointed with only one of the rejected contestants last night. Don't remember his name, but he was the heavy-set guy with bright eyes and wavy black hair who was so stunned when he was told no that he couldn't get out of the chair. (The one who said he was 28 already so he couldn't audition again.) He did have that really horrible trio audition where none of the three in the group remembered the words to the swing song they ahd selected, but his final audition was super strong, and I was pulling for him.

But I think they learned with Ruben's less than fantastic sales and solo concert appearances that the guys have to have "poster boy" potential in addition to being able to sing. With the girls, it doesn't seem quite as important to be sexy and have a good voice, but I noticed that a MAJORITY (not all) of the guys that got through were more potentially marketable as sex symbols as well as singers. It's the Josh Groban syndrome.

The producers of ALIAS have changed course for the series so that the missions can be more self-contained each week and hopefully appeal to a vaster audience. So far, it's worked. ALIAS's ratings are almost double what they were last season. Still, I know what bk means in that the giddy recklessness of the show's first two seasons in particular is simply missing.

I still find all of the characters fascinating, and next week's show brings back Sark and Sydney's female nemesis  from Season 1.

I don't think it's quite me!  Interesting, however.

DRvixmom, I'm glad you didn't hyphenate your names!  I think portmanteau names may have worked with British lineage, but I find them in contemporary New York rather a joke, sometimes a vestige of the feminist movement and a lot of times on the Upper West Side a sign of pretension.

Re:  Lost:  Maybe someone mentioned this before, but did you know the guy playing Ethan (the no backstory weirdo Matt mentioned) is/was William (?  sorry, memory failing, flailing :) ) Mapother, Tom Cruise's cousin.  There's your fascinating trivia for the day.

Re:  John Raitt.  Yes, Stephen Cole posted that to CASTRECL this morning but has not yet confirmed where he heard it.  I haven't seen it yet on any news services.

Re:  weird R&H chords.   I still think that there are errors in the bass parts of Carousel, though I could never get a definitive answer.  IIRC (it's been several years since I MD'd this), especially in "If I Loved You" (it might have been "You'll Never Walk Again--er--Alone") there are minor third differences between the piano's bass and the "real" bass, making for a lot of mud.  I seem to remember a C 6/4 in the piano with an E in the "real" bass that drove me crazy every night.

Reuben - Give me the classic with corned beef - although a pastrami or turkey one will do in a pinch.  And I prefer mine without a schmear of tomato sauce/paste.

Monte Cristo - Deep-fried sandwich goodness! Preferably with blackberry jelly on the side.  BK - The House of Pies makes a decent one. You could have one for breakfast, and it should last you throughout the day.

Grilled Cheese - The classic with American Cheese and Wonder Bread is always a good stand-by.  But I also like Provolone on Rye, Cheddar on Wheat or Pumpernickel, Smoked Gouda-Pumpkin Butter-Basil on Rosemary Focaccia, etc., etc...

And I still remember the first time I had a few slices of tomato grilled with the cheese...  I was about nine years old, and we were visiting the beach in Connecticut, and the woman in front of me ordered her grilled cheese with tomato... Then so did I!  Yum!  Then came the cheese, tomato and BACON variation!!

Paninis - I've like almost all of the Italian pressed sandwich variations I've tried so far.

Hot Sailor - I can't remember exactly which deli meats appear on it, but I like it a lot.

Pastrami and Knockwurst

Etc, etc., etc...

What about Clay?  He certainly wasn't  a sex symbol when he started.  And even know I still don't think he has a poster boy image.  And he is the most popular of all the Idols!

Well, yeah...but....Clay has "talent" and "charisma."

Fantasia may equal/surpass him in time, since she has both traits, as well.  But then she never had Simon telling her, after a song, "I was imagining you with a paper sack over your head."

Clay has a great image...he's wholesome without being cutesy/smarmy...and for some folks, probably, that's sexier than dropping your trousers every time you perform, or, in the case of some of the female singers, showing as much as you can in order to draw attention away from your lack of talent.

DR VIXMOM - thanks, but it's all right.  After a few years of having to RENT the houses out and dealing with all that means (couldn't SELL the houses, you know) - we did the only thing we could, we sold the entire project to the airport.  It actually ended up being a money-maker for us, but NOT the money-maker it would have been had we been able to fill those 25 lots with homes.

DR ELMORE what a great opportunity to look at Trude Rittman's original music.  I love THE KING AND I score....and Lady Thiang is a wonderful character.  I love the way she was played in ANNA AND THE KING the movie by Gale Sondergaard - especially when she told the story of the tree.

DR GEORGE did you listen to ME AND JULIET yesterday?  I like the score.  There are many songs that I listen to over and over.  "Marriage Type Love", "That's the Way It Happens", and "Keep It Gay" are all a lot of fun.

I'm up, I'm up.

Hisaka: I did not dream of hot sandwiches.  I had another peculiar dream, little of which I remember except that Steve Sondheim and I were shooting the breeze and laughing like crazy, and then somehow I ran into Frank Loesser - thankfully I had a soundtrack LP for The Five Pennies for him to sign.  He pointed out to me that he hadn't written The Five Pennies, but had written Danny Kaye's Hans Christian Andersen.  He signed it anyway.

And when I woke up, my pillow was gone.

No, but I did, as I always do with sellers who refuse PayPal, let the seller know he lost a potential bidder by his refusal to use PayPal.

Most anti-PayPal sellers are vitriolic about having to pay PayPal any part of their sale proceeds...but the solution is so simple...just accept PayPal and make it clear that any charge for use of PayPal will be added to final price.

That gives buyers like me the option of bidding or not, knowing that I'll be paying the seller's PayPal fee...which is usually peanuts.

It is the very rare auction item that I will bid on if the seller doesn't take PayPal.  It has to be virtually perfect or one-of-a-kind or something I've been searching for over many years before I'll deal with one of them.

Oh, but he does have a loyal pre-teen and grandmotherly audience. He's safe in a nonsexual way for these folks and that has been the primary audience for his celebrity.

There was a Clay Aiken calendar out last Christmas season.

But you missed part of my point, Jennifer. Ruben was chosen over Clay even by the judges, and what they learned from that is that you've got to have a loyal audience of teenyboppers if you want to translate that into megasales of CDs and concert tickets.

Well, to each his (or her) own. I would rather have had him than have two long-haired rocker types. I like Constantine rather a lot, but Bo could easily have been eliminated to have another really good, traditional-style singer in the group.

OH!

And I now know that it's possible to do my workout routine in my living room here in Richmond.  Just push the coffee table up next to the couch, and, Voila! - Workout space.

It's a wood floor here - my parents had a carpeted basement.  I did get a little self-conscious at the sound I was making each time I lifted and placed my foot down, but I got over that soon enough.  And after my first batch of jumping jacks, I realized that I wouldn't be shaking the CDs off the once rack in the corner.  -That was my big worry.

I think I'll try for another run tomorrow, just to change things up in my routine.  Hopefully, it won't be too cold, but I do have the right gear, so...

Coon Rapids High School! Ben, I think that is just about one of the greatest names for a high school I've ever heard.  I assume it was the name of the town as well.  It has made me smile with great joy.  It sounds like someplace where a Jimmy Stewart character grew up.

Vixmom, if you actually own that particular Fredric Brown paperback, it is worth a considerable chunk of change.  Mr. BK and I are both Fred Brown aficianados.  I have a considerable collection of his books...though I don't have that edition of THE CASE OF THE DANCING SANDWICHES.

I will take my tomato soup sans rice.  The Lovely Wife makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches.

BK, though I hate to disagree with DR Jose, I've always found the Monte Cristo a sandwich which always sounds better than it actually is.  For me it just promises more than it delivers.  It also looks so tempting on a menu and I will occasionally get one and then always be disappointed or never quite satisified.  I've had the one at House of Pies.  Don't remember much about it.  I think  it may also just be that my tastes have changed over the years.   They're not bad...it's just never my first choice in deeliciousness.

As for Clay vs. Ruben...  I think it was just a matter of mis-marketing on Ruben's behalf.  Or lack thereof.  I know that "Clay" was the People's Favorite, but I thought the AI people and the record company would have plastered Ruben's face all over - and I just didn't see it all over.

Yes, he played that whole Teddy Bear image to the hilt, then came the whole weight loss thingy, and the subsequent exhaustion...  But it also seemed that AI just didn't book him on enough of the high-profile TV shows - well, at least at the right time and time slots.

Additionally, it seemed that "they" made the mistake of promoting Ruben in the R&B/Soul markets instead of trying for a little broader audience - like the one who voted for him on AI!

I dunno. That's just my opinion - and a very unqualified one at that since I didn't really follow AI that much that season.   But I do go to Tower, Border's, B&N, etc., quite frequently, and I just didn't see any "hype on display" for him.

Did it bug anyone else that there are people in the top 24 who we have not yet seen?

I actually think this is quite unfair.  People like Anwar, and Mario and Constantine already have huge fan bases.  I really think that we should have seen all the 24 a few times already.  Instead we got to see the drama of that girl not getting in and having a tantrum <sigh>.

DR Pogue - No need to hate to disagree with me...

;)

When a Monte Cristo is OK, it's OK.  When it's Good, it's Good.  But when it's VERY GOOD, it's simply wonderful.

It's a heavy sandwich by it's construction - basically ham, turkey and cheese between slices of French Toast; deep-fried or pan-fried; then dusted with powdered sugar, and served with jelly on the side.  And french fries too!

The one at House of Pies is good.  Not GOOD.  And it all depends who's manning the sandwich and fryer station that day.

When I worked for Coast Guard HQ in DC, they would make Monte Cristos on Wednesdays - maybe it was Thursdays.  In any case, they were AMAZING.   They weren't too big or two small, just the right proportion of meats, cheese, bread and egg batter.

Most of the ones served by diners - including the House of Pies - do tend to run on the "bigger is better" side.  Which, as we all know, is not necessarily the case.

Time to dig out my score...

If you have any say in the "New Edition" - of the P/V score at least... Please make sure it's actually playable - well, that what's put on the page sounds "good".  The new version of Carousel still has me looking for the right "support" in a few places.  -I usually pull out my old copy consequently.  Don't get me wrong, I love the new edition of Carousel, but it seems more like a a P/C score rather than a P/V score if you get my drift.   Well, of course, maybe that was the point of the new edition.  AH!

And, as for your work being "boring"... I used to spend hours, days, looking at manuscripts in the Library of Congress.  For fun!

Definitely a day worth celebrating!

Just did a little research on THE CASE OF THE DANCING SANDWICHES...The paperback (its cover posted here) is listed on my trusty book site as starting out at $95 dollars and the top price for the same book is around $1,700.  Average price for it is between $150-250.  This also goes for the MacMillan edition.  There is actually a magazine version (it's first actual appearance) going for $150.  Lowest price for which it can be had is $95.

I can think of one way around the problem: drop by the book shop a few days ahead of the reading, and get all of your "business" taken care of ahead of time.

The big flaw with this plan is that there will always be people who aren't there on your drop-in date, who will be there at the reading.   :P

Correction:  Top price for Dancing Sandwiches is $1750.  Of course, I can't see anyone paying that ludicrous price for it when the same book can be had for as low as $95 or in the mid-hundreds.  That is one of the nice things about the internet and used books.  It is a great price leveller.  Now if I had a copy of the paperback I would, of course, immediately be valuing it at the $1750 price!

My hair appointment has now been changed four times.  First it was ten tomorrow, then it was three-thirty tomorrow, then it was back to nine-thirty, and now it is today at 2:30.

She's even better at this than I can be!

Of course, I could postulate the following:

If you break the word into it's parts, you get pus-ill-animous.  Animous, from Animate, of course, give us a monster that is animated by it's sickening pus.

It's the Pimple Zombie!  He's breaking out!!!  AAAARRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!

Josh Groban is a sex symbol?? :P

DRvixmom, I'm glad you didn't hyphenate your names!  I think portmanteau names may have worked with British lineage, but I find them in contemporary New York rather a joke, sometimes a vestige of the feminist movement and a lot of times on the Upper West Side a sign of pretension.
My sister's solution when she married (the second time) was to simply keep her maiden name.  Fine for her, but her daughter's name doesn't match hers.  Of course, if my sister had had her way, the daughter's last name would have been the same as hers, leaving the sperm donor out of the picture entirely.

Der B and I would probably hyphenate, if we could.  In which order would be argued about, of course.   :D

And, for those who were wondering, der Brucer is doing nicely.  He's been busy with family and politics, and leaves it to me to keep him posted on what's happening here at HHW.  He keeps me posted on what's happening with our friends elsewhere.  Now, if I could just get him to decide about going to NYC in March...

Maybe this is a good thing.  It gives me the opportunity to suggest you mention to your "stylist" that you swim and use the jacuzzi...he may want to avoid using "lightening" chemicals that might react negatively to whatever chemicals you might use in pool/jacuzzi.

TOD: The Quiznos franchise has just come to Deer Park (taking over space in a vacated store so I am not cranky about it!)

I have fallen for this:Chicken Carbonara
Chicken, bacon, mozzarella, mushrooms, Creamy Bacon Alfredo Sauce
 And I just may have to have one for lunch...

I love Quizno's.  There is one only a quarter of a mile from where I work...certainly within walking distance.  One of my favorites is the Turkey Ranch and Swiss. MMM. ;D I think I will have this for lunch today!

I did.  I enjoyed it but I didn't love it.  There were some songs that I liked much more than others, but I need to listen to it some more, though.  I'm very glad that I got a copy (thanks again, Larry!!)  Now I have the three forgotten Rodgers & Hammerstein musicals (Me and Juliet, Allegro and Pipe Dream) on CD. ;D

A few nights ago, der Brucer practically demanded I make Sloppy Joes.  And not that Manwich stuff from a can, but fresh.  So I chopped up an onion and a bell pepper, added ground beef and let that all cook for a while, then added a small can of chopped olives, a small can of green chiles, a large can of black beans, and a can each of diced tomatoes and tomato paste.  (Opening the cans is good for you, if you use a hand-powered can opener.  Good for the wrist muscles.)  A little salt, some garlic, some cumin, let it all simmer for a while.

Meanwhile, I toasted up some English muffins (we didn't have any buns on hand, the mufins worked great), and popped some tater tots in the oven.  That was a quick and easy hot meal, and qualifies as an open-faced sandwich because of the muffins!

Everyone in the office was ordering Chinese food, and since it's so  #$$^*( cold out today, and since it's a 15 minute drive from the office to the nearest Quiznos, I ordered the chicken & cashews.

Unfortunately, this turned out to be rice and rice and some more rice with carrots and celery and onions and some more carrots and another bushel of celery and two (count 'em TWO) cashews and some substance purporting to be chicken, although I have my doubts. :P

Oh !! If only I had not been so PUSILLANIMOUS about braving the cold and the traffic.....

I'm off to the land of Orange, to the city of Anaheim to attend the Religious Education Congress at the Convention center in the city of Anaheim.  I'll be posting from there beginning tonight.  It's a great conference, I look forward to it each year.

Servings per container: 4
Size of serving: 1/2 cookie

DR Ann - and Jed - Here's a story..

Earlier this afternoon, I was trying to get a hold of my friend, Mark.  I didn't see him online like he usually is when he's at work.  I tried calling his cellphone, but got some message saying the number had been disconnected.  Then I tried calling his office, and was told he doesn't work there any longer.   Well, then I realized I had probably called his old office, so I looked up the number for his new office.  But then I tried calling his cell again, just in case...  He answered the phone.

His voice sounded horrible.  Very gravelly and tired.  He was home recovering from the flu.  He ended up with a case of bronchitis too.  He's been home for two weeks.  We talked for a little bit, then he told me that he had been laid off this week too.  -Apparently, I had reached the correct office the first time.  His company had just been bought out last week, and they only ended up keeping four people in his office during the reorganization.

To add insult to injury, he hasn't been able to see his two boys the past two weeks since he's been sick, and he won't be able to see them this weekend, since they will be heading out of town with their mother.  And one his boys just had two surgeries, and the other one broke his leg a few weeks ago.

Needless to say, he's had a couple of rough weeks lately.

However...

He was able to do a phone interview with a new company earlier this week.  And he got the job!  He's supposed to start training this week, but since he's sick... So, he'll start in two weeks.  He'll be training down here for a few weeks, but the actual job will be in Pennsylvania - which is where he was planning to move to this summer in order to be closer to  his sons.  -His ex-wife is getting remarried, and she's moving to West Virginia - it's a very long commute from Richmond to Philly, but not such a long commute from Philly to West Virginia.

Amazing how life just seems to work itself out at times!

So, I truly do think we are all coming into a very good cycle.  All of us.

~~~~VIBES FOR ALL~~~~
Evening all.
I also find myself missing those who are E & T.   I only hope that they are happy and well.  That no great personal tragedy is keeping them from posting and spending time with us.
Vibes to all who need them!
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~[/move]
I did speak with Jane and she said to say “Hi!”.  She is a little under the weather so I am sending her get well vibes.
[move=left,scroll,6,transparent,100%]~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~[/move]
Still not much to report from my neck of the woods.  We had a free cholesterol test at work today.  My cholesterol was so high my doctor wanted me on two cholesterol meds.   I refused to take the pills.  I heard that once you start on them, you can never stop and I had a feeling my weight was a big factor with that problem as well as my high BP.  I thought that if I could get my weight under control the rest would follow.
To my delight, today my cholesterol was a mere 169! BP was a tad high but not bad.  No where near the triple digits top and bottom that I was having.  And all with OUT taking any meds to bring them under control.
I’m still fussing with my Wi-Fi card for the PDA.  I have to find an internet provider for it in order to be able to use it on the trip.  I think I may go with IPass.  One of it’s hot spots is located in the lobby of the Muse.  I’m still reading up on how all of this works.  If anyone knows anything about this type of stuff, please let me know!
I also love the Quiznos sandwiches.  The Turkey/Ranch is one of my favorites as well.  Yum!  I shouldn’t have bread but once a week I allow myself what ever my heart err stomach err taste buds desire.
DR Ann--I couldn't do a sit up (heck I'm lucky to STAND UP) if my life depended on it either.  Glad to hear that you are on the mend.
Laters!
DH has problems with his cholesterol counts and starting taking fish oil caplets.  I will have to check with him about the dosage he takes, but they have reduceded his numbers on the "bad" cholesterol amazingly well!!
DR Danise - I still haven't bought a WiFi card for my Pocket PC, but I did go over the procedure with the salesman - and other people - on how to get it configured.
You do not necessarily need an ISP in order to use a WiFi card.  However, what you will need is some sort of browser program on your PDA.  Now, if you're Pocket PC 2002-3, on Windows CE  on your PDA, then Internet Explorer should be built in.  Once you configure your card for an "ad hoc" connection, it should just pick up the signal and connect to your homepage once you open IE.  Then you can log on to your ISP/AOL/Yahoo/etc. with the web browser/IE.
You should only need an ISP for you PDA if you will be using a dial-up connection to connect to the internet.  How are you connecting to the internet now?  Even if you are using dial-up, there should be some sort of web page access - like AOL has set up now with the Screen Name service.
Hope this helps.
*Oh, if you WiFi card has an 800 number, it might be worth the hold time to call them for assistance.  ;)
Do you use .mac?  I got it with my G5 imac with free usage for awhile, but I've never bothered to do anything with it. Do you know if it is worth my while? It would be nice to have a place people could easily upload files for me and vice versa. But I've just been to lazy to open the box!
Highlighted MR BK - I have used to Social Security Index a few times, and it is very helpful and accurate.
Of course MBARNUM may have a contact for you, but you might also want to surprise Leslie with the books if you get her address.
But don't be afraid of the SSI.  It is very secure.  I think you can also send another amount of money and get a copy of the Social Security Card application for just about anybody.  It helps if you know the SS # - in fact I have Miss Allison Hayes' application filled out at age 14 when she was going to work at the Palias Royale selling linens to rich ladies in Washington D.C.
DR Rodzinski - I'm still in my free trial period for .mac too.  I'm thinking about getting it, but since I mainly connect via a dial-up connection, some of the 'higher' features would just take too long to use, if you know what I mean.
I'm also on AOL, and I actually like AOL.  I've never had any major issues with AOL.  <knock wood>  I've learned to use the "My FTP" space function for web pages and storage.  -Although, with .mac, I'd have a LOT more online storage capability.
However, now that AOL has reconfigured their mail server to be compatible with POP mail servers- which means I could sync up via Outlook/Entourage...
I have about six more weeks to explore it, and then I'll decide if it's worth the extra $99.
How's that for a definitive answer?
 :P
*Just go to the .mac homepage and start clicking around.  No need to open the box.  ;)
-Well, I believe you've answered your own question.
You're welcome.
I would mainly use .mac for the Virex service and the online storage.  I really don't need another e-mail address.  Just need to crunch the numbers.
TOD---
No question about it-- a French Dip.  It's been years since I had one too.
Tonight I went to L'il Mama's, a great little soul food restaurant. I had Southern fried catfish, red beans and rice, black eyed peas and cornbread.  They had peach cobbler and sweet potato pie for dessert,  but earlier in the day I got a piece of Oreo Cake which I'm saving for later.  Sticking one's head out the window of a Cessna at 6000 feet can make a boy hungry!
I don't know about the West Coast, but I noticed tonight that SURVIVOR ran over the hour a bit tonight. I had finished WILL & GRACE and had flipped over to CBS for CSI, and SURVIVOR was still on (running credits) at 9:01.
Speaking of CSI, tonight's case had to be one of the most bizarre in the history of the show. Made the case with the folks in animal costumes having sex seem tame by comparison.
MR BK here is the link that Michael Shayne gave you - filled out with Leslie's information.
Scroll down and you will see "Buy all information on this page for 7.95"  There is no phone listed for her, but her address is available.  Small price to pay.   ;D
Give it a shot - and props to DR MS for finding it.
Rodzinski - I have very little memory of that bit, except that we only got two people to do it, and my IFB (earpiece) was cutting out all the time and I couldn't hear what they were telling me to do from the truck - which is why you probably see my head cocking to one side all the time.
If you want to watch the shows I wrote and produced, check out the first seasons, Alternative Medicine (I'm in it, too) and Sex.  They both reek of me, especially the voice overs.
