In re bk's evaluation of JOHNNY GUITAR on his region 2 DVD, a few weeks ago, it was being featured on Encore Western, a pay cable channel I subscribe to. I captured it to the hard drive and burned a gloriously beautiful copy of it to DVD. I really was impressed with its sharpness and the Trucolor looked just fine to my eyes. Don't know what print Encore used, but it seemed flawless to my eyes.

bk, I'm assuming this was filmed in Academy ratio as the Encore version was full frame. I'm guessing Republic Studios didn't immediately switch to 1.75:1 or 1.85:1 after Cinemascope took off and made folks want wider screened films.

It's a perfectly hideous day, weather-wise...rain, rain, rain.  It was glorious overnight, beating insistently against my bathroom skylight and blowing against my windowpanes.  I slept the sleep of babes.

It's supposed to clear up and become sunny this P.M.

We shall see.

Meanwhile, I'm typing on a borrowed computer as my computer has stopped responding to my keyboard.  I had a new one standing by and it won't respond to it, either.  So...I've called the techs...let them sort it out!

Johnny Guitar has always been full frame as far as I know.  Sounds like the Encore channel's source material is sharper than the DVD.

It rained most of the night, but seems to be done right now.

That's not a line from a play.

Just got my laptop back a few minutes ago via UPS. I was tracking its repair via an online portal and UPS told me exactly where it was at all times so I could anticipate it's return. My roomate Phil, is very very happy since he doesn't have to worry about me jumping on his computer every five seconds to figure out where mine was at. :D More later after I have gotten all caught up. I have a three hour Elijah rehearsal tonight with orchestra and again tomorrow, then we are performing it on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon.

Good Afternoon!

I'm back from my various errands and drop-offs.  Drop-offs, heh - sounds a bit nefarious to me.  ;)

NOT!

There was a potential face-to-face "confrontation" that I was sort of looking forward to that ended up not happening since everyone is in meetings today.  However, there was one face-to-face I was looking forward to which also did not happen due to meetings...  I shall try again tomorrow.

I also went by the U-Haul place to get my storage space and van rental in order.  I went ahead and "splurged" on a 10x10 space.  I could fit all my stuff into a 10X8 or even a 10x10, but I wanted to make it easy for me to access stuff over the next month or two.

I was not able to get a van until Sunday.  Which, in retrospect, is better.  I can take it a little easier over the next two days in regards to packing, and since I just found out that the new roomie is not moving in until next weekend I'm not really that "rushed".  It's also supposed to rain tomorrow and Saturday, so the move had the potential to be not that pleasant.  In the meantime, I think I shall go ahead and take a few carloads over today.  And, who knows?  Maybe I'll be able to cancel my van reservation.  *I only really need it for the bed anyway, so..  If anything, I'll only need to make one trip with the van on Sunday - save on gas and mileage!

In the meantime, I think I'm gonna get some lunch and watch me some "Y&R".

;)

DR Dan (the Man) - I'm sorry to hear that you and Ms. Sedaris are having "issues" right now.  Just be thankful the papparazzi and the tabloids are respecting your wishes to be left alone during this most difficult time for both of you.

-However, I am looking forward to the Barbara Walter interview in a few weeks.

I can't wait for the new Guy Haines cd - what an interesting track list!

Incidentally, has anyone else here seen the musical version of Johnny Guitar?  I didn't love it in the theatre (see my review at http://www.talkinbroadway.com/regional/boston/boston90.html), but the cast album has a lot of charm.

It's nice to know how he's singing, but what's the title of the song?

THOMASINA: When you stir your rice pudding, Septimus, the spoonful of jam spreads itself round making red trails like the picture of a meteor in my astronomical atlas.  But if you stir backwards, the jam will not come together again.  Indeed, the pudding does not notice and continues to turn pink just as before.  Do you think this is odd?

SEPTIMUS: No.

THOMASINA: Well, I do.  You cannot stir things apart.

Thank you for this, DR DtM.  I haven't thought of this line in eons.  Used to use it all the time with a good friend of mine.  I LOVE this line!
