I had recorded THE FASHION SHOW to watch while I ate lunch today. I was so disgusted with myself because I recorded LAST WEEK's show. Anyway, I set it to record the rerun of this week's show, and I'll watch it tomorrow.

So, I watched PANIC ROOM in high definition off AMC-HD. I really do enjoy that movie, but I only watched about thirty minutes of it.

Then I started watching THE CLEANER. I got two episodes watched. The show is fairly dark: people with addiction dilemmas being dealt with by this team who intervenes on a loved one's behalf. Bratt is very good in a very conflicted role.

My neighbor told me today that they are definitely moving.  Their house sold before the realtor even got a sign out front!  I will miss the girls.  Apparently an electrician bought the house. I asked if he had family and she said no, but she thinks he has a daughter.  I do need a couple light fixtures changed...

I am enjoying the shows, however. Kind of a caper show but not with the fun attitude of LEVERAGE.

It appears that the First Family and entourage have just arrived in New York City via Marine One.  And even though I know it's going to be crazy, I sort of feel like taking a trip back down to Times Square just to take a peek at the madness.

Or not.

I also paid my respects, as it were, to the Virgin Megastore at Union Square.  The signs say they are going into their last week, and that everything is now 40%-off.  There is a lot of stock left on the shelves - I'm guessing they consolidated a bunch of the stuff from the now-closed Times Square location. Of course, since that's 40% off of the list price, it's basically Amazon pricing. ;) However, since the electronics and accessories are also 40% off, there are some pretty good deals in that department.

*However, I was tempted to buy one of the many(!) 5-disc CD changers they used for the in-house sound system.  They're going for $30 each.  We shall see...

Has the Virgin in LA bit the dust too?  I was shocked, when in London this January, to see the Virgin Mega Store in Picadilly has closed.  Is the internet just killing them all?  The HMV looked shabbier than I had ever seen it as well.  Dress Circle was holding its own, but not quite what it once was.

OH, the Dance group called Diversity.

I think for longevity that Susan Boyle will have more of a career. Dance groups like Diversity (which I've seen) are good for the moment but I suspect won't be around 5 years from now. Someone will want to strike out on their own and that will be the end of it. While Boyle can have a career singing if she has the right management that won't take advantage of her, I hope see will succeed and be like her idol Elaine Paige

The Times Square location closed about two months ago, and I believe the Union Square and L.A. locations started their official Closing sales at the beginning of this month.

As for what did them in, well... Yes, the internet (legal and illegal downloads) undoubtedly contributed to their demise.  However, I also think that consumers just got smarter in a sense.  There's been some weird "math" in regards to CD prices: as the cost to produce them came down, the retail cost of them went up.

I also know that Virgin, in particular, was affected by the real estate market.  Their stores were in prime locations with ever-increasing rents.  Rumor was the the rent on the NYC locations was going to increase 3 to 5-fold if not more.

Question:

Did Barnes and Noble "invest" in the cast recording of West Side Story so they can have an "exclusive" edition with 3 extra tracks?

I am sure it cost extra to pressed x amount of cds with the bonus tracks and the printing of the cd inserts as well has to have a separate press run

They did the same with the Patti Lupone GYPSY and the new SOUTH PACIFIC.
