A friend of mine just called wondering if something had "happened".  He's down in The Village, and noticed a whole bunch of police cars and other official looking vehicles driving around.  After checking some tweets, it appears that the Obama's are having dinner at Blue Hill before heading up to the Belasco for tonight's performance of Joe Turner's Come and Gone.

I have spent most of the afternoon listening to Bonnie and Buster barking their heads off while sitting atop the couch - try as I maight I couldn't see anyone on the road to arouse such interest; but then I lloked very closely at the front garden area:

Okay, so it’s one of my very favourite movies of all time, so chances are I would have bought the poster even if it just featured Jack Nicholson eating dim sum. But this particular design (by Jim Pearsall) really is, to quote Alan Partridge, “premier league”. I love the weird, dreamy mood, with the smoke from Jake Gittes’ cigarette wafting up and transforming into Evelyn Mulway’s hair; the features of her face looming out of the bleached-out background like a femme-fatale Cheshire cat; the solitary wave breaking against the shadowy P.I., nodding at the water-driven plot that will first bring these two characters together and then destroy them. This is none more film noir and I never get tired of looking at it. For added appreciation, just look at the lousy poster for sequel The Two Jakes, which throws in the same ingredients — Nicholson, cigarette and mysterious lady — yet gets it all wrong.

How can they have a Dance Group compete against a singer etc ...

Obviously, Susan Boyle can't do what Diversity does, and Diversity can't sing the way she does.

Not to worry: Ms Boyle is going to get a recording contract; she already has the exposure and brou-ah-ah!.....

I think Susan Boyle could star in Gypsy as Mama Rose!

Paul Potts also repeated his first aria, Nessun Dorma, for the finals.  They are free to use whatever they think is their best.

Today I received notice from the IRS that they have decided they owe me a refund. All I have to do is mail a request for said refund and they will send me the check for twenty-one cents.

The latest in CA's budget fiasco:

The legislature will be unable to agree on a budget.

Either way, CA will end up in receivership and a Federal judge will attempt to sort out the mess – good luck! No one has proposed a workable solution that would not require a rewrite of the CA constitution (to undo the damage caused by past voter initiatives) and a major overhaul of exiting employee contracts – Admin types at California Universities pulling down $300,000/yr need a major pay cut.
