I'm so bummed! I've misplaced the Barnes & Noble gift certificate that Don Rose sent me this week.

DR elmore - Are you still t/here?  Have you had dinner yet?

I am and I did! I'm going to stroll around the neighborhood and come back and work some more.

Okey-dokes.

A friend of mine just called wondering if something had "happened".  He's down in The Village, and noticed a whole bunch of police cars and other official looking vehicles driving around.  After checking some tweets, it appears that the Obama's are having dinner at Blue Hill before heading up to the Belasco for tonight's performance of Joe Turner's Come and Gone.

I have spent most of the afternoon listening to Bonnie and Buster barking their heads off while sitting atop the couch - try as I maight I couldn't see anyone on the road to arouse such interest; but then I lloked very closely at the front garden area:

EMPIRE

Quote

What Do Your Movie Posters Say About You?

Okay, so it’s one of my very favourite movies of all time, so chances are I would have bought the poster even if it just featured Jack Nicholson eating dim sum. But this particular design (by Jim Pearsall) really is, to quote Alan Partridge, “premier league”. I love the weird, dreamy mood, with the smoke from Jake Gittes’ cigarette wafting up and transforming into Evelyn Mulway’s hair; the features of her face looming out of the bleached-out background like a femme-fatale Cheshire cat; the solitary wave breaking against the shadowy P.I., nodding at the water-driven plot that will first bring these two characters together and then destroy them. This is none more film noir and I never get tired of looking at it. For added appreciation, just look at the lousy poster for sequel The Two Jakes, which throws in the same ingredients — Nicholson, cigarette and mysterious lady — yet gets it all wrong.

Susan Boyle came in second.

That makes me very sad.

Was it the public only that voted? (i'm assuming yes).

I wonder why she sang the same song again.  I wonder if her meltdown this week contributed.

I'm curious what others think of Diversity (dance group that won). I saw their semi-finals. And while they were okay. they certainly weren't spectacular to me.

I loved the three-year-old singing. Loved the teen boy, too. Don't care so much for Patti. Don't hate me.

Question:

Did Barnes and Noble "invest" in the cast recording of West Side Story so they can have an "exclusive" edition with 3 extra tracks?

I am sure it cost extra to pressed x amount of cds with the bonus tracks and the printing of the cd inserts as well has to have a separate press run

They did the same with the Patti Lupone GYPSY and the new SOUTH PACIFIC.

Does the GYPSY recording have the, "Stop!  Stop!  Stop!"?

THAT is a stupid show anyhow:

How can they have a Dance Group compete against a singer etc ...

Obviously, Susan Boyle can't do what Diversity does, and Diversity can't sing the way she does.

Not to worry: Ms Boyle is going to get a recording contract; she already has the exposure and brou-ah-ah!.....

I think Susan Boyle could star in Gypsy as Mama Rose!

Paul Potts also repeated his first aria, Nessun Dorma, for the finals.  They are free to use whatever they think is their best.

Today I received notice from the IRS that they have decided they owe me a refund. All I have to do is mail a request for said refund and they will send me the check for twenty-one cents.

LATIMES

The latest in CA's budget fiasco:

Quote
Schwarzenegger would save $100 million by suspending laws requiring the state to pay for a variety of local government services, including offering absentee ballots before elections, resolving child custody problems, investigating deaths at mental hospitals, posting safety signs on beaches, collecting DNA samples from bodies, caring for abandoned pets and many more.

Local governments would have to pay for the services or stop providing them.

My prognosis:

The legislature will be unable to agree on a budget.

Interest groups whose ox is about to be gored (and there are many) will be filing suits in Federal court to stop the funding cuts.

Either way, CA will end up in receivership and a Federal judge will attempt to sort out the mess – good luck! No one has proposed a workable solution that would not require a rewrite of the CA constitution (to undo the damage caused by past voter initiatives) and a major overhaul of exiting employee contracts – Admin types at California Universities pulling down $300,000/yr need a major pay cut.

Have you priced the cost of the stamp to mail the letter?
