TOTD"
DVD - "Noel"  (Susan Sarandon).  So very bad it it was funny!

CDs: "Hairspray" OBC
We watched the movie the other night - Much to my surprise I found it quite fun. (I had enjoyed the original).  After DR JMK's "review", I may even be brave enough to watch the new musical version of "Buona Sera Mrs Campbell".

It was very sad at physical therapy, because it was my last session. My referral is up on Dec 30, and I'm out of town till then. When I asked my doctor about a January referral, he said we'd have to wait and see if it was needed. So, it's pretty much over and it's done my shoulder a world of good. I became quite close to the clients who showed up during the 1 pm hour when I was there and I wish them all well.

I'm waiting to hear from my friend Chris about tonight, but I've packed two cartons to drop off at Fed Ex tonight, and I'm putting together my list of things to take with me.

It's colder than I thought it would be. I got chilled going to my errands even in a heavy jacket (though I only had a long sleeved cotton shirt underneath; a mistake.) Got everything done, however, and faster than I expected, even with the expected long line at the post office.

Very sad to read about Van Johnson. I know some friends who don't care for him, but I've always liked him. I never thought he was great at any particular thing, but he was an amiable presence in films and on TV.

I watched THE OFFICE while I ate lunch. There were some really great laughs in the episode, and I'll look forward to upcoming episodes to see where it all goes with the Dwight-Angela-Andy triangle.

I really enjoyed Elaine Stritch in last night's 30 ROCK. I didn't care for her in last year's shows, but in this one, her comedy timing was great, and the back and forth with Alec Baldwin was classic.

I spent most of the afternoon with the Blu-ray version of THE WOMEN. Diane English has taken the characters from the original and some of the basic Mary-Stephen-Crystal triangle plot, but completely tossed out the play's catty bitchfest dialog and situations. Instead, she's turned it into a pale, milquetoast women's empowerment story. I mean, that's fine if it's what you want to write about and direct, but why base it on THE WOMEN? Write your own story of a cheating husband and a wife who finds liberation when she's out on her own.

I found the comedy so tame and the drama weak. And you've got someone like Bette Midler in the role of "The Countess" and you do NOTHING with her. (She has two short scenes.) In fact, the cast is either wasted or miscast. Only Cloris Leachman and Candace Bergen deliver the goods.

I looked at the three bonus features on the disc, too. None were all that interesting. There's a making of featurette with Diane English discussing her rewrite of the story and her ideas for casting. There was a featurette featuring a 15 year old girl doing a report on "What is real beauty?" from the set of the movie interviewing cast and crew. And there were a couple of cut scenes. That's it.

But MOST disheartening is that THE DARK KNIGHT did not arrive in today's mail (even though I put it in my Friday Media Check! The USPS made a liar out of me!) So, I'll be looking for something else to watch tonight since there are no TV shows I'm interested in.

DR MattH, you have my sympathy. From the tv commercials, I thought this had "must miss" all over it.

I liked Mr Van Johnson in several movies - particularly EASY TO WED with Lucille Ball and Esther Williams.

And WIVES AND LOVERS and STATE OF THE UNION.

But especially when he danced with Lucy Ricardo!  "How about you?"

Dear Vixter, you know that you have many friends here and support in your church so use the network. You can feel as sad as you want. You're a good daughter and your mom is lucky that you are willing to be there and watch over her in this difficult time.

DR Ben - add me to the list of Morgan Library fans.  We've only been there once, at the end of a long conference day at the Foundation Center, and would like to go back.  Have you read An Illuminated Life: Belle da Costa Greene's Journey from Prejudice to Privilege by Heidi Ardizzone?  It's a wonderful look at the origins and early development of the Morgan.  Say hi to Babar for me!

This morning, I took a couple of pictures of my Christmas tree that's in my kitchen window! :D Here's one with the blinds closed so that you can see it easily.  It's turned so that the "front" (better looking side) faces out:

Brasil '66 was born in 1965.  But I digress.

I just watched THE WOMEN on Blu a few days ago for review purposes, and I actually thought it might have worked rather well.  I was frankly shocked that English, certainly a fine writer for women, didn't do better with it.  I have gotten several emails from readers saying they LOL'd at my opening sentence of the review, which I'll let you ferret out if you see fit.

I have been *so* friggin' busy it's been hard to drop by for even a mo', so let me just say:

WE LOVE YOU VIXMOM, OH YES WE DO!!
WE LOVE YOU VIXMOM, AND VIXTER, TOO!
