I'm going to head for bed, too. I felt very tired this morning, and I'm hoping a little longer sleep tonight will remedy that.

Good night, everyone.

Well, that's it, I'm really giving up on the trivia question this week.  Stumped for the second week in a row.  :(

But I did learn a lot about large-cast plays in the history of Broadway, so there is a bright side.  :)

I can't believe I didn't turn that last thought into two posts.  Oh well....

:)

Good night, all.  And sincerely, happy New Year to anyone who's celebrating, members or lurkers.

TOD:

"What are your favorite independent quirky films from the golden age of independent quirky films, the 60s and 70s."

Well, imdb lists these films (all favorites) as "indies" from that time period:

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)
Psycho (1960)
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975)
The Graduate (1967)
The Lion in Winter (1968)
A Man for All Seasons (1966)

Quirky favorite goes to Dr. Strangelove

OK, took one last shot at the trivia, almost thought I had it, but no luck.  Hope this isn't one of those that are so obvious that I'll be kicking myself...

Good night again.  I mean it this time, I think.  :)

Good time meeting with the folks at Barrymore's. Cillaliz is the latest HHW denizen to make my acquaintance and she's "Iowa Stubborn."

I just had some fries and I had to bolt to meet with the bandmates. Seems we have a long-awaited gig, playing a fundraiser for a theater group. Should be nifty.

I hope DR RODZINSKI that you will add "Monkey in My Hatband" to your playlist.

I guess the boys are all still at SPLASH!  I hope they are watching the entertainment and not BEING the entertainment!

Independent movies from the 60s and 70s... Hmmm. So many to choose from. A COLD WIND IN AUGUST is from 1960 or so, that's a great one.

THE MANCHU EAGLE MURDER CAPER MYSTERY is a great, strange film Gabriel "East Side Kids" and "Anyone Can Whistle" Dell wrote that I quite enjoy. A lot of movies from that era are so quirky one might assume they are independent, but the studios were releasing anything back then.

Evenin', all. Back from a loverly evening with the HHW group.

It was lovely to meet DRs Ginny, Danise, Michael and Priscilla and it goes without saying that it was great to see DRs Jose, Ben, Larry, Rodzinski and TPunk (she joined us at Splash! for a little while). We also got to visit with DP Ant, with whom we got to visit between dinner and the bar.

I have a bit of a headache now from all the loud music at Splash! I am happy to report, however, that I have now seen the DREAMGIRLS Tony clip TWICE! Oh! Happy day! We also got to see Ms. Patti LuPone and Mr. Michael Ceveris - the current Mrs. Lovett and Mr. Todd - in a couple of past roles: Reno Sweeney in ANYTHING GOES! and Thomas Andrews in TITANIC.

DR Cillaliz: I'm glad to hear your initial report is that you enjoyed SWEENEY. I think it's intriguing and a touch bizarre, so I can't wait to see it. And I love the show. And Ms. LuPone.

And now I'm off to bed. Thanks for the good times tonight, everyone!!!

TPunk is back, and she joined the fellas at Splash. I saw Jason's name up above. Others may still be running wild in this fine city.

I would love to do "Monkey in My Hatband"!

There's Jason posting now! I asked The Punk if she had a good time talking to folks and she said, "You can't hear anyone in there." So I guess I'm glad I didn't make it, as I have a low tolerance for LOUD.

WHAT???

It was quite loud at Splash! Very difficult to have any sort of conversation. But with Jennifer Holliday on the screen, who could speak? Not to mention the bartenders galavanting around in their bathing suits. And by bathing suits, I mean underwear. I was often left speechless.

Poor MBarnum - he hates musicals and that's all they played tonight. Teehee!! At least now he'll know who we're all talking about. Jose and I gave him a crash lesson in divas. I think it may have been too much for him - he wandered off to the lower level by himself for a few minutes. I'm sure he only did that because he needed a breather. I'm sure of it.  ;)

Good Evening!

I'm back!  I'm back!

As the others have reported, we had a great gathering at Barrymore's earlier tonight.  So nice to finally meet DR Cillaliz, and to see DR Ginny again.

What is ON the lower level?

Well, in addition to the bathrooms, there is another bar as well as a lounge area, plus the coatcheck and a giftshop - I may have to go back and get Michael a SplashBarNYC t-shirt before he heads back to Oregon.  It's also a bit quieter down there too.  On Musical Mondays, they continue showing the musical videos down there after the upstairs is tranformed back into a dance floor.

Oh, and one of DR MBarnum's "husbands" was tending bar down there too.

DR Cillaliz - I do indeed know Mackenzie and Laurie!  I actually ran into Mackenzie the other day at Ripley-Grier, and she filled me in on things.  The Broadway company of Mamma Mia! is about to go through another set of cast changes, so they've been bringing in some "filler" people during the transition period.  Carey Anderson who was also on Tour 2 will be the new Sophie when Michelle Pawk and John Dossett join the show.

And as for the origin of the name "Splash"... Well, back when the bar first opened - and before it's multi-million dollar renovation and expansion - there were indeed glass-enclosed shower stalls behind and around the bar.  And most evenings, there would be men in those showers taking a shower.  Thus... Splash.

*There are still some showers, but most of the time, the men just dance on small platforms.

A very big Thank You to Ben and Anthony for giving us the grand tour of their apartment.  Michael particularly enjoyed some of the photographs from Ant's production of Forum.  Ah, those Greeks!  -I mean Romans... well, Greeks.
