Re Simon Baker without his shirt - Isn't Simon Baker the fellow who revealed on The View a while back that he doesn't believe in wearing deodorant?

Indeed, it was he:

The Guardian's' Unwitting Sex Symbol
(Sunday, June 30 10:00 PM)
By Jacqueline Cutler
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - In the restaurant at Manhattan's Four Seasons Hotel, where an iced tea costs as much as lunch in most places, the well-heeled patrons chat quietly. In the back of the room, a man who looks rather out of place slumps into a banquette.
Simon Baker, star of "The Guardian" that airs Tuesdays on CBS (9 p.m. ET), wears a faded black shirt, striped jeans and work boots. He drinks water by the carafe, and mostly goes unnoticed. However, as he makes frequent trips to the restroom, the mirrored walls reflect the stir he creates among the female patrons as he unassumingly walks by.

In an industry where being beautiful pretty much is a job requirement, the 32-year-old Baker is stunning. As good as he looks on TV, he looks even better in person, with sun-streaked blond hair and aqua-blue eyes. "I'm on f***ing holiday, baby," he says in reference to his reddish beard.

Baker is on hiatus from playing Nick Fallin, the slick, clean-shaven corporate lawyer whose drug conviction landed him 1,500 hours of community service as a child advocate in lieu of jail time.

Earlier this year, Baker raised some eyebrows when he revealed that he doesn't use deodorant in a profile in People magazine, which included him in its issue showcasing the 50 most beautiful people in the world. His reasoning is that drinking enough water flushes out impurities, making toiletries unnecessary. Just after the issue hit the stands, Baker, who admits to being shy, appeared on ABC's "The View." The hostesses of the daytime TV series, who are anything but shy, sniffed his armpits.

"That was charming," Baker says in a tone that leaves no doubt he was horrified.

What does Simon Baker have to do with SMITH?  I thought that it starred Ray Liotta.

Fay ----  I remember watching a bit (controversy to be controversial ala Madonna isn't really funny or thought provoking) - and thinking that Lee Grant was about the unfunniest woman on television at the time.  Of course that was before Brooke Shields and Lea Thompson had their sit coms.

Weird movie night on TCM.

DR CP - have you read Manhunt - The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln's Killer by James L Swanson?  I think it's being made into a movie, but John Singleton Mosby is mentioned a trio of times - and it is a very good account of the killing of President Lincoln and the aftermath.  INTERESTING....if not exhaustively researched.

I didn't even know they had a Tuesday night show called SMITH!

Judging by the ratings, neither did a lot of other people.

I thought the same thing about people refusing to buy THE LITTLE MERMAID on the say-so of any reviewer. I'd buy it and judge for myself. If I was displeased, I'd take it back and get a refund or a trade.

As I mentioned yesterday, I wasn't very impressed with the mix on the laserdisc. It was fine but to my untrained ears, lacking in dynamics and intricate surround. I know sound mixes weren't as sophisticated then as they can be today.

I'll still watch and listen for myself before I make up my mind about anything.

I finished 101 DALMATIANS. Amazing that at 79 minutes, Disney didn't add another feature on the laserdisc to finish out its potential two hour running time. No trailer, no behind-the-scenes look at the making of the picture. Nothing.

I watched ABC's rebroadcast of last night's GREY'S ANATOMY. There was no problem with the sound, and I enjoyed the show much more in high definition.

Finished the recordings from last night by watching SUPERNATURAL, this episode a creepy one involving a killer clown.

Actually, it was a raksasha, the same demon that Kolchak faced in the greatest of his thriller episodes "Horror in the Heights." Really enjoyed this episode, much more than last week's actually.

The mother-daughter demon hunters that I read this summer were going to be added to the show made their first appearance in this week's episode.

Ended the evening with LAW & ORDER with Nora Dunn accused of tampering with wiring and a gas line causing an explosion which killed an eight year old girl.

Very surprising conlcusion to this one, a neat twist on the usual deal making.

The Numb3rs episode tonight had, at the end, the sound of Rufus Wainwright singing his Hallelujah - used in Shrek - and in at leact 2 other network shows this season. Maybe he can buy that $75 million lot in Bel Air.

Can I play my Etude for four hands, now?
Yes! And I play piano (badly) so I will provide 2! Can we do Schubert? There's some great 4 hand pieces.

After meeting with my accountant, I think it will be awhile before I order any more videos, "Cry Onion" being the exception!

Thanks, Der Brucer!!!!

Speaking of Yale, a little Yale humor:

While the brokers were busily calling potential customers to drum up business, the president of the firm stopped to eavesdrop on a new employee. He listened as the young man talked eight consecutive contacts into moving their stock portfolios to him.
The boss approached the young man and said, "I've been listening in, and I must say I'm impressed with your ability. Where did you learn so much about talking to investors?"
"Yale, sir," the young man answered.
Impressed, the boss said, "Oh, that's fine, just fine.  And what's your name?"
"Yim Yackson," he replied.

Good Evening!

Back from my meeting - a.k.a. cruise briefing.  Alas, it looks like I'll be working more than five hours, but not that much more.  ;)  However, since I was 'given' two full days off on the boat, I have been enlisted to help with the group check-in tomorrow morning.  Starting at 7:00am.  UGH!  But, then I'll be done at 10:30am, and that will be the end of my work day.  I suspect I'll be taking a nap in my stateroom before the boat pushes away at 5:00.

Back from dinner.  The head of the cruise tour group company - Cruise Everything - took all of us to dinner at Bravo, an Italian restaurant.  Many drinks were consumed.  Many baskets of garlic bread were devoured.  And plates of pasta, veal, chicken and eggplant were practically licked clean by all of us at the table.  -Oh, yes, there was also dessert!  And, best of all, the boss pick up the tab!  :)

And now...
