Well, you've read the notes, the notes were lovely and written at night, and now it is time for you to post until the lovely night cows come home.

I accomplished nothing yesterday.  I just wanted to lie around and doze, although I did vacuum.  Today I have resolved to accomplish several things: empty the vacuum, wash out the litter box, and make a trip to market.

I think the first time I thought of the Sherman Brothers as songwriters was after seeing Mary Poppins and playing the recording to death.  I had no idea until years later that they were the writers of "Let's Get together" and other songs.

It would have to be the score to Mary Poppins when I was 5 years. I was taken to see the movie.

ASK BK (from yesterday

If you have access to all the Bagley recordings have you ever thought of doing the "Best of_______ From Ben Bagley Revisited" like Dorothy Loudon, Bobby Short, or Blossom Dearie

Or some of the more unusual singers like Katharine Hepburn, Laurence Harvey, Joanne Woodward, David Arkin, Lynn Redgtrave

or current fav Ann Campton Callaway who recorded a whole slew of new tracks for the CD reissue

TOD

First song ever heard would be "Let's Get Together", since we saw The Parent Trap when it was released. But I didn't have any idea who wrote the thing. Likewise, In Search of the Castaways and The Sword in the Stone which followed.

It wasn't until Mary Poppins that my consciousness was, um, expanded and I learned their names. They were plastered on everything, of course, including the LP and the "complete musical score", both of which I immediately bought and treasured. And that was it. Once Mary Poppins exploded on the scene, there was no more "not knowing" the Sherman Brothers.

(Sadly, that book of music went missing along with several other "real" scores, at some point during my college years. I eventually replaced it on eBay, but while it's the "same", I can tell by the look and feel of the paper cover that it's of a later printing. Those first ones are very hard to find.)

The event last night sounds incredible. And with the likes of Hayley Mills and Dick Van Dyke taking part, if that ain't unforgettable, I don't know what is.

The litter box is scoured, the litter pads washed, and I'm soaked in sweat.  I've ordered an enzyme cleaner to clean the walls around the litter box.  I'm blaming the humidity since this is the first time the bathroom smells of cat pee.  Not a sniff all winter or spring but today?  Mercy!

I'm going to wash my face and head to the market.

TALL PAUL!!!!

What a great little song.....recorded by Annette!  It was the first rock n roll single by a female singer to crack the Billboard Hot One Hundred coming in at #7 in 1959!

And brought the Sherman Bros to Walt's attention.

Now I need help that only MR BK can give.

I ordered the new CD's, but in addition to the Leonard Bernstein, I foolishly clicked on the "Gershwin" release instead of the William Grant Still release.

Can you change that order for me, MR BK?

I can only blame the anxiety on my upcoming colonoscopy on what's left of my insides....

The tribute last night sounds almost perfect.  The V.I.P. line and getting through security to the stage worked out well.  It especially would have been a shame if you could not have been able to say hello.

Well, it isn't Thatch; it's the building that stinks.

When I moved in, July 1980, the super was an older gentleman, Mr Gonzalez.  I was very fond of him and his wife, and he was a very kind animal lover.  At that time in the open quad between my building and the ones on the corner of Amsterdam Avenue, there was a colony of feral cats that he fed and looked after.  They had access to the building through the basement and I suspect he permitted this for rodent control.  That colony has been gone for over 30 years, but the male cats marking their territory left the walls of the basement stained and ingrained with the odor of cat pee.  Whenever the humidity goes up, the building reeks.  We are due for rain today.  When I walked in the front door with my groceries just now, the odor nearly knocked me over.

I couldn't really say so in the notes, but several of the singers were just not good and the arrangements were just odd.  There was a slow, bluesy version of Small World, Loggins did his Tigger Song, Hayley did Let's Get Together, someone did the River Song, the kid who voiced the kid in Coco did something I can't remember, Dick Van Dyke and his three guys he works with did Supercalifragilistic, etc.

TOD:  it would have to be Mary Poppins for me too.  I think we got the album for Easter and played it over and over.  DR Cate ( formerly Kate, formerly Cathy) used to sing "A Perfect Nanny," as Jane and I would say Michael's lines ("That's the part I put in," "I put that in too").  I told that story to Mr. Sherman a couple of years ago and he kindly signed the Poppins CD for Cate.

I spent much of the day washing winter clothes and putting them away for the season, then doing some rearranging so I can get to items I use daily more easily. The apartment is crammed to the gills. I need to take one closet or cabinet at a time and CLEAN IT OUT, tossing as much as possible, then reorganizing what's left. My linen closet is the go-to place for anything that doesn't fit elsewhere. I'm reluctant to dig into it, though, as I fear I won't be able to get it all back in. Such is life is small quarters. Let's see: I had lunch with Grant - had a Philly cheesesteak and side Caesar salad, picked up a couple of packages and an important envelope, did some banking, printed out not enough orders, but these Begley releases all seem to follow the same pattern - what always seems like a disappointing first day but somehow by day three or four we've done just fine.

I thought that the last season of Castle was heading towards creating a new version where he became an actual investigator.  It could've been called Castle, Inc.
