I've been up about an hour.  I've had cheddar cheese grits and sausage, and I'm drinking my cup of  coffee.

Life is very good.

The rain comes in waves.....hard, pelting rain, then drizzle, then mist, then drizzle, then hard, pelting rain.  Here in Oakland we hadn't gotten more than .60 of an inch as of 8:30 a.m.  Up around the Russian River, one place had measured 10 inches of rain.  It's going to continue unabated through the weekend, though, so our water tables ought to be filling back up.

DVD-I've been going thru the 1st 4 seasons of the WIRE, to put me in the mood for this sunday's start of Season 5.Car CD, the soundtrack to Far from Heaven, which I only purchased at out local 2nd hand store last week-what a beautiful score, Today I've been listenening to the most recent Maria Freedman solo CD. And I agree with BK re THE LIVES OF OTHERS, but I though that film, performances, etc would be eligible for this years Oscars, al la Amacord, Day for Night etc.If I wre giving out the best actor award(which I do anyway, in my head), I'd split it between Ulrich Muhe and Josh Brolin(NO COUNTRY...)But why doesn't my Beloved HOT FUZZ win anything?

I went to bed at 9 p.m. yesterday.  I was tuckered out.

Still haven't watched "Pwoject Wunway" and must attend to it soonest.  But I seem to have become sidetracked by "Psych" reruns on USA Network.

TOD - DVD:  After yesterday's discussion, I went up to Audio-Visual and checked out the 2-disc version of The Cardinal.

VHS: Sweeney Todd with Lansbury & Cariou

Lansbury and Hearn?  If you've got Lansbury & Carious, I want a copy for my VCR!

I have this one, too.  Haven't watched it in years.

I wonder how difficult it might be for folks to find a copy to watch.

It's not exactly a title that most folks would "collect".

I sat through it twice in a theater.  I was mesmerized.  Jerome Moross' score  is  powerful and exquisite.

There was a Lansbury and Cariou clip on YouTube (associated with those "Follies"  clips -- in a roundabout way).  I think it was from the Tonys, though, and you probably already have it.

Those of you out there with turntables and LP cast recordings.....are there any shows that you simply PREFER listening to on LP rather than CD?

"Sweeney Todd" is one of mine.  Something sonically more interesting from the LP, I  think. Probably not  "natural" something, but it's the sound that was part of the falling-in-love-with-this-score experience.  And I confess I LOVE getting up to turn the LP over.  :D

And the word of the day is: FAINEANT!
Abner, in a typically FAINEANT mood, thought he would enjoy a stroll through town posing as a NEAT NAIF, but couldn't drum up the energy to get out of bed.

Back after New Year's in Fresno & several hundred dollars spent on car repair (unexpected but needed...my radiator was cracked).
Here's a phone-cam self portrait from New Year's Eve.

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto, by Michael Pollan
Oooh!  Oooh!  Oooh!  Pollan's got a new one out!  (Salivating begins.)

Have you read The Omnivore's Dilemma or The Botony of Desire yet?

I like my LP of PROMENADE: The CD has the songs in the 'correct' order, but I got used to them in the incorrect order; same with OBC of DO I HEAR A WALTZ, one of my all time favorite scores.
