Off to have some South India food with my niece (it's her birthday!). I got her the special edition HAIRSPRAY DVD...I know there are divided opinions about it but I hope she likes it. (She's 15...)

Betsy just finished The Yiddish Policeman's Union a couple of days ago and loved, loved, loved it.

I must confess I was not able to make it through either The Alienist or whatever the other Caleb Carr with the same detective was.  I must also confess that I am sorry I did make it through The Dante Club by Matthew Pearl (is that right?), which was really tedious, despite having a boffo premise.

SKIDOO is indeed on TCM tonight - well, technically, it's on tomorrow morning at 2am EST.  I'll be dvdr-ing it, if I remember. . .heck, I don't remember Christmas and I don't remember you. . .

TOD:
DVD:
SHOOT 'EM UP - anyone who thinks that SWEENEY TODD (Tim Burton) is over-the-top in its bloodletting obviously hasn't seen this exciting action film featuring Clive Owen.  Relentless in its action and grimly humored, it's a dvd which I'll eventually purchase.
HIVAH - Bollywood!

CD:
HANS CHRISTIAN ANDERSON/THE COURT JESTER - lovingly re-produced by Bruce Kimmel.
Bobby Darin - The 25th Day of December

Next you'll confess to not reading all of John Galt's speech, the how-to whaling chapters in Moby Dick, or the bear stories in World According to Garp!

Well I did in fact read everything in two of the above.  I'll let you guess which one I missed. ;)

Today I went for a drive to the historic ghost town of Jerome, AZ. This is what I saw:

Jerome, a former mining town clinging to (and in some cases sliding down) the side of a mountain:

A plastic Elvis:

A Victorian room:

A former bordello:

MBarnum, I never knew there were FIVE LITTLE PEPPERS movies. I loved the books when I was a kid...

DR Edisaurus, there were about 4 or 5 of the movies made in the early 40s, all starring my interviewee Edith Fellows. I have only watched on of them so far and I enjoyed it. If you would like any on DVD-R just let me know, as I am transferring them from my DRV, and I will send some your way. TCM was showing them last month.

Good evening. Wow, when I got home there were no messages or hang ups - woo hoo! I did have a flyer from Hillary today. Day late and a dollar short.

Last night. I wish I had been feeling better. I helped out at our caucus, telling people which table to go to and sign in or change registration.  Our precinct went from 120 people last time to 230 people this time!  Lots and Lots of young people and independents and Republicans switching their registration. It was really amazing seeing all the people going for Obama. They were a bit fanatical about him, I just don't feel it, but they were so up and so excited. Something that is good to see.

The caucus itself it a bit tedious. Break into groups, readjust after finding who is viable. But it went the same way that it did over all. Obama, Edwards then Clinton. The rest weren't viable so they didn't get any delegates.

I was still feeling pretty puny with my cold and all so I came home instead of going to the party, but I hear I didn't miss much.  Overall, I have to say I like the journey better than the destination.  I'm never really satisfied with how the caucuses go, but I love all that leads up to them and I'm really glad when it's over and we can go back to normal
